Rose, 77, who has lived on the Bad River Reservation along the Lake Superior shore since his birth -- land he and other tribal members share with four wolf packs -- told the story of the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe ancestors) and ma'iingan, the wolf

No wolf should be killed and that's that! I can understand the tribes refusing to participate in this useless bloodshed.

How unbelievable that the white man supposedly knows everything about the environment? It's always to his purpose and that is not good.

I don't believe in "Little red riding hood". Leave the wolf alone.

Of course it is disrespectful but these hunters don't give a damn. They are too busy getting all giggly inside when they think about blowing away an innocent creature that has done them no harm. Boycott every state that has a wolf hunt and let the governors know that you would have liked to visit their state but you will not go to a state that kills wolves. In the end, it's really the people who live in those states who have to take a stand against wolf hunting.

Wish we could ban all wolf hunting except game wardens with vaccination dart rifles and naturalists with cameras. Wolves help control the rodent problems and cull weak animals from wild herds, benefitting our environment, and tend to avoid humans, a trait best enforced with cattle prods and tasers used in self defence, not bullets, poison, and traps.

Thank you for posting.

The so called "civilized" people have mass slaughtered so many animals buffalo, wolves, beavers, alligators some have come back and others all around the world slip into extintion. We keep taking their lands, as happened to the First Nations people and forcing them into ever more smaller places to live instead of living in balance and harmony with all of our brothers and sisters.

I love all animals. They're God's creatures, and wolves deserve a break. Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood are out of date! Our new nursery tales should involve both humans and anthropomorphic animals - fighting to chase away the murderers of our wild animals. I love them all.

America has gone from being a fabulous country to a vile animal murdering nation in the space of a couple of years.I now loathe this animal murdering country.Be civilised and leave the wolves and the other animals alone

I hope these people will fight the execution of the wolves. The government will listen to the native animals more than they will the rest of us. What we need to do is start recalling those who support the wolf kills. That will get their attention that they can't just work for a few wealthy people, but have to work for the majority.

I have always loved wolves...well, I should say after I got over being traumatized by little red riding hood and peter and the wolf fairy tales. They are beautiful and wild creatures that need to be left alone.Do humans ever just let something "be"? I have watched many nature shows over the yrs about wolves and I think they are amazing. One show I watched told the story of a female Alpha who was kicked out of the pack (cannot remember why now) and forced to roam alone (hence lone wolf). Another female had stepped into her position as the Alpha and had pups. This mother was killed and then the lone wolf came back to the pack and raised the pups herself and resumed with her Alpha status. How do you go around killing creatures with this type of social/instinctual abilities???????Actually, I think wolves are more civilized than many folks are.I can't help but wonder who is the money behind the wolf slaughter?? Where are all the scientists stop this destructive garbage???? This reminds me of US expansion toward the west and the white man killed everything in its path so "we" could roll in civilization.I think this is a contradiction in terms...civilized=killing everything wild. Some people still have that elitist attitude that if it is here, it is for the taking. We need to stop this slaughter. I don't "get" the bear hunting with dogs either. I have friends who hunt to eat the animal for food and they use all of what they kill (not making an argument for meat eating here, just a note) and they are grateful for the sacred. How is putting food grease or apples out to lure the animal in....hunting? I am not a hunter personally (except with a camera) but I don't get this thrill deal over killing something that you manipulated by putting out food for it?That would be like putting down my dogs supper and then blowing his brains out.Sorry, even my dog did not like reading this sentence. We need more reverence here. How do we go about stopping this? This feels like another run-away-train that we are suppose to just accept and bow our heads and say "poor wolves"? I think this is an unacceptable situation.
