There are currently just 25 wolves in the country. The hunting quota for this winter is 12. More than a century ago, before state bounties were paid for the killing of wolves, the population in Norway was more than 1,000.

I love wolfs but the things that are said here is not the truth.. the have not interpeted the numbers correct...

here are the real facts..

1. The historic wolf population in Scandinavia died out during the 1960s. Wolf population in Scandinavia today stems from individuals of Finnish-Russian origin who wandered in from the east and settled in southern Scandinavia in the 1970s and 1980s. In Norway, the wolf is currently considered critically endangered.

2. The population of wolves in Scandinavia had a significant growth in the 1990s, from fewer than ten animals for almost a century in 1999. Growth has continued in the 2000s, but it has been weaker.
Since the Scandinavian wolf population is relatively isolated from other wolves, they are genetic conditions a challenge for management. The genetic factors may determine whether stocks are sustainable in the long term.

3.During the winter of 2011-2012 were identified a total of 260 to 330 wolves in Scandinavia. It was recorded a total of 33 family groups and 27 territorial marking pairs.

4.It is set as a national goal that there should be three annual litter (youths) of wolves within the administrative area of breeding wolves in Norway.

5. Wolf population size is currently regulated by license. Permissions to kill is not ordinary looking, but foul motivated by the need to reduce damage to livestock and domesticated reindeer. If the government Ministry permission so establishes a quota for the killing of a number of individuals within geographically defined areas

In the event of emergency situations where wolves do damage to livestock or domestic reindeer management can make decisions about the gunning down of that individual.

I would like to point out that Scandinavia is made up by several country with different laws and rules, and that its a bit ironic that in Norway we are doing what we can to protect a bird called northern lamping, and when it migrates to other contrary its hunted for its meat and egg.. and here we close down whole fields so it can nest in peace..

-Missy-

Missy sent me a private message to bring my attention to her message to this article, well for one thing, in reply

Hi Roxy,

Missy O. has sent you the following introduction. This system allows only brief introductions. If you would like to respond to this person, simply reply to this message.

I love the wolfs and trust me here in Norway we fight hard for it, so please read the comment I added to your new story.. it has the "real" facts about Norwegian wolfs, if you have any questions about the Scandinavian wolfs feel free to ask -Missy

to this message : DEAR MISSY O :
I DO NOT CONSIDER 25 WOLVES ( Since the Scandinavian wolf population is relatively isolated from other wolves, they are genetic conditions a challenge for management.) STOCK!
25 Wolves is aobout the size of a family PACK! ... so right there you lost me in any kind of argument, You Missy O are trying to tell me and everyone that is signing this petition that killing wolves is ok, when there is only 25 and killing half and it isnt really proven science.
enough said, move along.... I will keep promoting this petition... have a nice day

The genetic factors may determine whether stocks are sustainable in the long term.
( Notice the word STOCK) WOLVES ARE NOT STOCK... #2 ....motivated by the need to reduce damage

In the event of emergency situations where wolves do damage to livestock or domestic reindeer management can make decisions about the gunning down of that individual ???? # 3 SO THERE IS ALREADY A " GUNNING DOWN OF WOLVES???? SO WHY NEED A HUNT ???? GUNNING DOWN??? ...... POINT PROVEN !!!!

Sadly, the wolf has been in large part decimated in Europe, so there is a crying need to protect wolves in places where they are STILL living. Since a number of European countries is devoid of them in absolute terms, the situation is pretty urgent.
