ag-gag noun \'ag-gag\ Any bill or law that punishes those who expose abusive conditions on factory farms; verb The act of silencing opposition to the abuse of farmed animals.

Billions of farmed animals live and die in cruel, unhealthy, and unsustainable factory farm conditions. Secrecy is what makes this system possible but hundreds of undercover investigations are slowly helping to end it. That is why the agribusiness lobby is trying to pass ag-gag: anti-free speech laws that would punish, or even jail, anyone who makes an unauthorized recording on a farm.

In recent months corporate backers of factory farming are trying harder than ever to pass ag-gag bills. Between 13 to 20 states are expected to introduce new ag-gag legislation in 2013. Sign our petition and join us in taking a stand to protect consumer rights to knowledge, not corporate rights to secrecy

Sign The Ag-Gag Petition!

I believe that citizens have a right to know about how food animals are raised and slaughtered. Ag-gag is a bad idea because we should punish the people who commit animal abuse, not the people who report it.

Sign our petition and join us in taking a stand to protect consumer rights!

Any place that keeps animals for whatever reason from zoos to rescue centres to farms and slaughterhouses should be open to public scrutiny no ifs or buts There should be CCTV cameras in all these places they should be compulsory and there should be heavy penalties for any animal abuse All animals have a right to compassion and care,to food ,shelter, medical treatment, some freedom and not to be neglected These should be worldwide rules now and no covering up of farming methods or any animal abuse

Want to put a hurt on them? Pick one week of every month and don't eat any meat. Let them know if they don't change their ways, it will become 2 weeks. Eventually you can become a vegetarian and really put a hurting on them. Worked for me.

As I noted on the petition itself, we should know not only where our food is coming from, but how it's being raised--otherwise we won't know enough to make healthful food choices. That's the humani-centric point of view. Then there's the point that animals shouldn't be raised under conditions that people feel the need to conceal in the first place--that's only fair to the animals, whose only difference from us is that they aren't human!

Only those who -do have something to hide would want this depravity to be made -law,the Govenor of Iowa Mr Terry Branstad and his side kick Mr.Joe Seng-was said he is a Vetenerian?? are responsible for this cruel archaic law coming into existence-for their own questionable agenda, shame on them and all involved, this is giving free reign to those pedophile -scum that infiltrate animal locations where they can practice their sadism on these poor -poor animals, those who participate in this debauchery -should have -by law -their products -stamped -AG-GAG-LAWS -applied -so we who do not want to add to this shameful -betrayal to the animals -will not buy their -blood stained -products.

Capitalism at its best! --- NOT!!!!! Humans are supposed to be the "higher" species on this planet, but it is sure hard to confirm that.

I move between being able to eat meat and being absolutely ill when I do. I have already decided to become almost vegetarian, but there are still GMOs to consider. I went to a wellness seminar recently where buying food locally was encouraged --- direct from the farmer. That isn't possible for everyone but we all can do more to ensure the food chain is safe.

These ag-gag laws make me want to vomit. Extortion of freedom. Free Speech and Freedom of the Press is at stake. The animal torture is widespread and rampant. Corporate protectionism from big-ag politicians. Some of them even want to seize the footage obtained. This pisses me off on so many levels. The Dakotas have had these laws for a decade or so. Get on the phone, write, pester, do anything to make these slime-bag politicians figure out who they are supposed to be working for. The USDA needs a come to Jesus talk because they, too are corrupt. Can you tell I'm pissed?

We have a long way to go on this serious issue... Education is crucial otherwise people are so busy just trying to make enough $ to pay their monthly bills that they pass this important issue by in favor of getting the best deals at Wally-World.... I'm not a cynic, I'm just people-watching ..... This is a big vitally important issue along with GMO's ...... We need way more education...

If big business played by the rules, and treated animals (or employees) fairly and decently, there would be no need for whistle-blowers. Since some big businesses are greedy and don't play their part in order to maximize their profits, society needs to protect itself by having whistle-blowing as a public interest service. Whistle-blowers need every protection.

Gladly signed. People need to know about the horrific condition and treatment of these innocent victims. The people who are trying to protect these animals need to be protected not punished. The ones doing the abuse don't want people to know what is going on, but most people do and are not going to put up with it. Sadly It always has to do with the profit.

"Sunlight is the best disinfectant." Bullies, cowards, sociopaths, criminals land abusers look to prey upon the defenseless, victims behind closed doors where there are no witnesses to get away with it. Only transparency and report with consequences can have effect in stopping this or at the very least, punishing, fining, firing those individuals. Anyone who would support this is looking to hide something. It is wrong on every level! This is bad for us and horrific for our intelligent, defenseless, sentient animals.

We cannot allow big corporate entities, such as big AG to run roughshod over us and our animals. They would love for us to go away and let them self govern, read: do whatever they want. They must be held accountable and the only way to do that is to have more access, not less. NO passing AG-GAG Bills!
