Many Illinoisans enjoy heading up north to “the Dairy State” for hiking, biking and kayaking in Wisconsin’s state parks and forests. However, some ugly legislative changes have taken place: Hunting and trapping are now allowed in Wisconsin state parks and forests!

Wisconsin politicians felt that opening up state parks to hunting would attract more people to take up the state’s hunting heritage. Gun and archery hunting, as well as trapping, now are allowed from April 1 through the Tuesday nearest May 3, as well as from Nov. 15 through Dec. 15.

Better wear your flak jacket if you’re considering a hiking trip. Beware of traps; although trapping is not allowed within 100 yards of any designated trail or other designated area, pet dogs have been killed by them. Oh, and you water sports lovers? Beware! Trappers sometimes place their deadly devices under water.

Wow! Let’s look at the bright side of this. Your trip could be a potentially thrilling vacation while you try to dodge hunters’ bullets and arrows.

I was posting and trying to get attention to get act 169 stopped, sadly No-one paid attention... I was even called names... and even told that there was "no way" that they could put traps in a state park... People in other "wolf friendly" sites even called me a Liar, when i was saying that they were going to allow Hunting in State Parks In Wis... AND if you look on my story line ... I posted it on here... Begging people to help me STOP WIS from getting it passed... :( :( :( *cries*

Jan. 2012, they produced the Wolf Vs Dog hunt in Wisc.... The Wolf Army and The HSUS went into court immediately and put an injunction to stop it... thankfully we got them to not allow dogs in the slaughter..but we could not get the killing stopped... my wolves lost their lives oct 2012

I actually had read about this awhile back, and I don't know why people wouldn't believe you. I beleive there was even an action on a blog to stop this from going through - but yes, apparently not enough people - certainly not enough people from Wisconsin opposed this. I have to believe that sometimes major outcry can prove successful, but on the other hand - somethimes they are just going to snub their noses at us no matter what the majority of the people want. It's extremely doubtful to me that the majority of people want hunting and trapping in national and state parks - but the majority of people are SLEEPING. This is appalling....and depressing. All I can hope for now is some people get shot by accident, or step in a trap and have to have their leg amputated - then maybe the state will re-evaluate this filthy pandering, ass backward, redneck, anti -democratic, yada yada in allowing killing grounds in our parks.

If someone wants to enjoy seeing or taking pics of some individual animal, how can a hunter or trapper be allowed to kill it and remove it from the public's enjoyment of it? He doesn't own it, the public does. Shouldn't be legal anywhere because of that fact.
The majority of hunters IMO are macho kill-lust males with low IQ's, and trapping is animal cruelty plain and simple.

Maybe it's best to stay inside the nice restaurants and hotels in Wisconsin. You can go to Illinois to the Botanical Gardens to see nature!

Noted. Why is hunting even allowed in state parks, though? That's wrong.

No reason for this insanity!!!! Our State and National Parks should have the final word and law on this. Someone needs to wake up and DO SOMETHING TO STOP IT ALL. The parks can not be an unsafe place for animals OR people!!~ Thanks Roxie~~

Why hunting in parks, the parks are supposed to there for the sake of animals, environment and sometimes for people to get away from the world and enjoy the natural environment.

This is madness, opening up state parks to hunting! I bet you won't find any state Republican/Teabaggers out with their families in the parks! Parks are for everyone's enjoyment. Or maybe you will --- the ones that like to kill wolves and bambies.

Of course we know that Wisconsin is Walker country and little Lyin' Ryan, the barbarian that would kill people with his budget, was, after the last election, preparing to take his 9 yr old daughter out hunting with her new gun.

Roxie - I feel your pain... I am so sorry for what happened to your wolves last year.
It is crazy that they would even allow this in a state partk. You are never a liar. You are one of the best I have come to know here. Keep up the Great Work you do....

Sadly noted! Aren't we supposed to be so enlightened by now to know how to handle things in a proper way? This is not a proper way!
Thanks Roxie
