An End to Human Trafficking

Elementary students across America are taught that slavery ended in the 19th Century. But, sadly, nearly 150 years later, the fight to end this global scourge is far from over.

If we live in an area where this is not happening, it is easy to put this awful problem to the back of our minds. Thank you Tarequl, we need constant reminders that this terrible situation is still going on, so that we can do all in our power to stop it.

Nicky I wonder if there is such a place? An area where this sort of thing doesn't happen. Although I know my neighbours, I also don't know my neighbours and they don't know us. Closed doors and locks hide a multitude of sins.

Many people are unaware that human trafficking still exists. It depends on a person's level of education and what they have been exposed to before they realize the hard realities of life for some people. Because it is so unsavory many people would prefer to live in a bubble world and pretend it does not exist when it may be going on all around them. We need a concerted strategy to stop human trafficking.

As long as human beings see animals as merchandise, it is a short step to viewing human beings in the same light. And, when you don't have respect or concern for the feelings of others, no matter what the species, it allows you to take all kinds of liberties with their persons for your own selfish gain. By dehumanizing others, it makes it easy to buy, sell, enslave, rape and murder without feeling the least bit of shame. This has gone on since early man and will continue until we manage to move UP the evolutionary ladder to a kinder, gentler and more compassionate state of being.
