AIPAC, or the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, describes itself as the most important organization affecting the U.S. relationship with Israel. With a budget of $65 million, and membership now standing at over 100,000, it is no wonder that congressional staffers consider it one of the most powerful and effective lobbies on Capitol Hill.

Once a year, AIPAC holds its annual conference in Washington DC. This May it was attended by over 5,000 participants. Its annual policy conference is one of Washington’s largest gatherings of lawmakers, topped only by the President’s State of the Union address. Guests this year included two-thirds of the House, half the Senate, and Vice President Richard Cheney.

Only rarely is a critical word uttered among politicians regarding AIPAC and its associates that support unjust and aggressive (and disastrous) U.S. policies toward the peoples of the Middle East. We aim to change that.

For too long, policies that support Israeli militarism and occupation have gone unchallenged. Political voices raising even minor disagreements with prevailing policies are silenced or subject to campaigns of intimidation. We must open the door to full debate regarding U.S. relationship with Israel and U.S. policy with other countries in the region.

These pages will examine how AIPAC and related institutions (usually collectively known as the "Israel Lobby") support a dangerous status quo, including AIPAC's support for U.S. military aid to Israel, which amounts to over $3 billion per year. We will examine its support for even the worst of Israeli policies, and its support for further U.S. military action in the region.

We will provide resources to counter AIPAC initiatives before Congress, such as the current legislation in Congress to punish the Palestinian people. You will hear many voices and listen to the debate among those who want U.S. policy to change but differ on how influential the "Israel Lobby" really is in formulating that policy.

Most importantly, we will serve as a resource for people organizing actions to challenge the status quo. We believe that changing U.S. policy is really the bottom line. The people of the United States, and the people of the world, deserve better than policies of endless war, occupation, and support for dispossession of the Palestinian people. We the people want a policy based on fairness and mutual respect. Therefore, we welcome the participation of those who want a U.S. foreign policy based on adherence to international law and support for human rights for everyone.

I don't blame AIPAC. They are an organization like so many others, and it is each organization's goal to become large and powerful. However, I blame Congress and our government for allowing lobbyists representing these organizations like AIPAC to become so influential in US policy.

This must end for the good of our nation. Any congressional leader with ties to AIPAC and/or having dual American-Israeli citizenship and ties must not be allowed to serve as congressional representatives. Absolutely, this must stop.

Any other political, racial or otherwise groups that represent a conflict of interest to our nation should have the same restrictions. Look what happened with the oil industry lobbyists and the Bush people who ran our country in the ground. It must stop now!

We need to protest aipac and reject its agenda, just as we would any lobby that works for militarism and supports military occupation. Go to the website and get on the mailing list. Consider a donation. but one way or another, we need to get involved. No longer should our resources be used to commit war crimes against a civilian population.

I agree with Marion on this! These lobbyists are paid to influence politicians & they've obviously done a very good job - Unlike Congre$$, which is Paid by American citizens to Represent American citizens by doing what's Best for US!.. so maybe we should fire Congre$$ & just pool our money for Lobbyists??!;)

I agree with Marion, she makes a good point,
but we should all do all we can to stop AIPAC.
They've done more harm than good. by far.
Thank you, Pete, for publicizing this group.
I'd not heard of them before, but I will be working
with and for them now, to get their message out.
Happily noted! :-))

I Agree also, Any group that has influence within state goverment should have the states interest at heart, not another countries, If it represents another countries interest then surly it would be considered a disruptive influence within that goverment. The representative goverment, it could be claimed then as not representing its own people. We have the same issue also in Briton.I am sure under the smoke screen of the new world order many other countries do also.To the detriment of the Arab nations or any others which dare to remove the problem.

Yes, something must be done. Of course, both sides of this issue are being represented fairly by the American media. See Jon Stewart's short video at this link.

The only way to counter the corrosive influence of the Israel lobby on US politics is to create an equally powerful counter lobby.

Please support these guys!

Without Media help, it's very hard to counter the Pro-Israeli (which has become pro-Zionist with these Reich-wingers elected) sentiment that has become ingrained in the American conscience. We've all become so careful not to seem anti-Semetic that we've bought the "Israel good, Arab bad" line for too long. Only Comedy Central's "fake news" has had the guts to tell the truth & ask the Hard Questions - Jon Stewart is Jewish, so he's Allowed!

Israel's Lies

Western governments and most of the Western media have accepted a number of Israeli claims justifying the military assault on Gaza: that Hamas
consistently violated the six-month truce that Israel observed and then refused to extend it; that Israel there.....

Actually, Israel is the real culprit using innocent Palestinians as human shields, not Hamas. Search human shield on Al Jazeera! Israel continuously defies international law and the Geneva Convention committing heinous war crimes and crimes against humanity. It's the responsibility of all of us who care about human rights to stop them regardless of our rank, status, position etc etc. Israel is running amok, they must be stopped. Despite their grandiose delusional thinking, Israel is not given immunity from international laws, we must take an unyielding approach to obtain justice for Gaza against Israel's criminal behavior in every way we can. Supporting a counter lobby is one very good avenue to pursue in seeking such justice. Thank you for bringing this to the forefront of our attention Pete, it's important, as are all other actions to stop Israel.
