Here is another addition to the 27 club. Amy Winehouse, the beehived soul-jazz diva whose self-destructive habits overshadowed a distinctive musical talent, was found dead Saturday in her London home, police said. She was 27.

We lose so many young people, so many actors, muscians, artists and other fabulous young people, known and unknown to addiction - although the direct cause of her death was not disclosed to drugs, I know that abuse of drugs and alcohol is always a factor in many of these cases. Many accidental, as in the case of Heath Ledger. It makes me very sad. I have no judgement about this because I fully understand addiction and the need for people to self-medicate the pain inside. Some people sooner or later make it to rehab and survive to live out their lives, and some people don't . I am really sorry to hear this. Thank you for posting this story for Amy Winehouse, Lindsey.

Thanks so much Lindsey! She was so talented!!! I have yet meet a truly talented artist that was not a troubled soul, even if some are abel to rise above the pain. I hope she is finally at peace. I feel for her family and friends as they could not help her, and it seemed she tried to get help, but just simply had too much pain and may have been unable to heal or get past the pain. May Amy's soul rest in peace!

I was very saddened by the news, even though it's not surprising. She really had talent and she really could've gone far with it. Her troubled life was cut too short but I hope she can find the peace that she never seemed to find in her life.

Dear Barb,

Amy Winehouse was Jewish, as am I, prior to death we need not accept any other savior than our one and only God.

She's probably singing up a storm in Heaven as we speak! Having recently lost both my parents I sent up a lot of prayers :)
I will now include Ms. Winehouse in daily prayer.

I am very sorry that this woman with such talent is gone. I'm also angry that no article on her death that I have seen noted that she suffered from BI-POLAR ILLNESS.

She self-medicated to try to deal with the symptoms, and as so many do got addicted to booze and other drugs. It seems she refused treatment for the bi-polar illness and could not be forced. What a loss. Amy RIP

@ BarbCat - "I hope she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior before this happened."

Oh dear. Oh deary, deary me! Amy Winehouse was JEWISH! You didn't look at the photos of Amy properly, did you? Although she didn't attend Synagogue as an adult, she was brought up Jewish, and I believe she had a Bat Mitzvah, as is right and proper for a Jewish girl when she turns 12 years old. I fear dear Amy would have spat you in the face, had she heard you utter this pious Christian hope on her behalf as she was proud of being Jewish. Quite right too.

You know, there ARE other perfectly good religions in the world. Christianity is not a panacea. We, Barry & I, are also Jewish, actually, although I am more agnostic and do not attend services any more.

This is what happens when you can't handle your demons along with the pressures of Fame. Also the cultural mindset that drugs will help make all our boo boos go away. This big lie about drugs especially, opiates, needs to be addressed. NO drug can vanquish our personal demons. You just have to ask for outside help from people you trust for help if you can't do it yourself. To handle fame and fortune and resist all the bloodsuckers it attracts requires you to have your head on straight. If not you have tragedies like this.

This was just a matter of time. A great voice - in a deeply troubled soul. Borderline Personality Disorder at its worst - and such a tragic end. The hype and the marketing are too much for many a star. It's harder to find any of them without personality disorders and addictions and self-descructive behaviouf than such without all those side-effects of 'belonging' to the world, taking pictures, asking for more, more, more and no right to say NO, NO, NO when it comes to managers and producers. Tim Buckley was my personal favourite among those who died way too young, together with Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Sign of the time? I guess it is unimaginably hard to cope with fame for the highly gifted but at the same time highly sentitive people and their fragile personalities.
May Amy Winehouse finally have found her peace, and may she sing with Janis and Jimi and Tim and Jeff and all those wonderful souls in Heaven.

it may seem strange to some but amy was a massive inspiration and strength to me over the last three or four years, i think of her as a strong person, she she lived and loved so hard, her family meant so much to her, she was troubled and had her demons but was also a creative soul, her music means so much to me as does her anarchistic spirit, sleep easy now in the arms of your beloved cynthia, you will be missed and never forgotten x

People are bloodsucking vampires and this chica got the long end of a firecracker and everyone just waited for the boom!
Shame on society for not even caring one lick about there kids nowadays, u-tube them and see them boast of all sorts of atrocity's.!! No one arrested her on stage for doing drugs right in public, no one helped her love herself.

Its heart breaking to read the rude, mean comments people are writing on the internet about her death, because she is "just another rich, spoiled crack head". It's no surprise but it is sad when talented people self-destruct. What I would like to see happen is the degenerate drug dealers who supply these people get thrown into jail as accessories to murder because that's exactly what they are! WHY didn't all those who knew who she was getting drugs from report them to the authorities? Like where is Charlie Sheen getting all his dope....and isn't is appropriate that it is called DOPE. It takes a dope to use look at their choices.....let's see, "heroin is addictive and kills so I want to do it!!!! Man, it won't affect ME!" "I want to party." People KNOW drugs kill and are where is the disease? Why make that choice to begin with? It isn't addictive if you don't ever DO IT! And I'm sick to death of not hearing how all these addicts didn't have a choice, didn't know they would get hooked.....they should NEVER have started! I'm sorry that she died and I'm so sorry for her family......and if Charlie Sheen doesn't quit and get help, we'll all be mourning him too....what a waste of talent!

Samantha Trosky (152)

I agree with Roxanne! Waste is the wrong word. She was a torured soul and many DID try to help, but she was too tortured to fix.
Becky, you must have had an easy life to feel the way you do. She was self-medicating. I did it after somone broke into my home and raped me. I was lucky that addiction is not in my DNA, and was able to move forward. As addiction is a disease. Note the word dis-ease! I know people who were addicted to heroine because they could not love themself enough to not do it. They say it feels like Christmas morning everytime you do it and if you have never felt happy, how could you resisit trying it??? I have been happy. My childhood was very bi-polar with a reasonalbe well off father that also beat me and put me through walls. I am very intelligent, but I sometimes will forget moments in my own life and wonder if its from brain damage from the beatings my father gave me? I had happiness and I also had a lot of pain. My friend never got much happiness as his father was thrown out because he was molesting his eldest sisiter and one of his first memeories was his mother crying because the lights were cut off and they had previously been wealthy. I do not know what happened to Amy and it really is none of our business, but her parents clearly LOVED her! I believe she is finally happy and is free from the chains (baggage) that held her down and was her sorrow. Eventhough she was skinny she looked heart broken and like she had heavy weights upon her, draggin her down or she was on the ground or bed or something. She looked spiritually heavy. May all of those weights be lifted and may she finally feel free!

This death announcement, it seems to me more than a murder announcement, perpetrated by record companies and mass media, this poor girl had to be helped, not commiserated and teased for her weakness.
Amy had to be forced to get treatment, but the fame and the gain were most important of his own life.
His family itself, which now mourns his death, now will receive more money from the sad story of her poor daughter, the media until yesterday remembered Amy only for his pathetic shows in throes to drugs and alcohol: Now, after the her death she becomes for media a heroine of music, extolling of the Amy unique qualities, launching his latest album, unreleased songs with the revolting hypocrisy of butchers who sell to pieces their victims.

@ Samantha - Interestingly, if you look at photos of Amy Winehouse taken in 2004, when she was 20 or 21, at a reward ceremony, she is NOT skinny at all but rather voluptuous AND she looks very happy, holding her Grammy statuette. What ever went awry in her soul and her mind, it must have happened AFTER that time!

@ Becky Y. - Hmmm . . . I hardly know where to begin. Your sweeping generalisations about drug addicts reveal a high degree of ignorance about addiction. Maybe there are some drug addicts who have that attitude to heroin, although I have never met any. All the addicts I have ever known have been profoundly damaged and desperately unhappy people who had not a shred of self-love, self-respect or self-belief. It takes a large amount of self-hatred to drag someone into the gutter!

The only real, profound peace of mind that I have ever experienced was after a morphine injection. This was in hospital, when I was in a great deal of pain after being hit by a car and badly injured. For a very short time I received the occasional morphine injection as the pain was insupportable. I can tell you that what I felt then was utter peace, bliss, tranquility and a total absence of emotional (as well as physical) pain. I have never felt anything even approaching that state since. I am therefore in a position to understand what it is that heroin addicts crave. Heroin is NOT a party drug, dear. It is a drug that deadens pain, emotional and physical.
