Manatee Rescued From Florida's Red Tide

On Tuesday a manatee was rescued in Bonita Springs from symptoms related to red tide poisoning. The toxic marine algae that causes red tide is often fatal to marine and coastal species when ingested or inhaled.

Thanks to Breve rescuers, & Miami Seaquarium for provideing her safe haven. I just adore Mantees, they are such sweet & gentle creatures. Damn that Red Tide!

I remember first seeing these amazing creatures in a huge tank at Epcot Center in Orlando, Fla. Not the best place for them, perhaps...but for some reason, just seeing them for the first time really choked me up.

I'm glad they were able to save the manatee and the sea turtles --but once they're released, won't they face the same dangers?

Poor thing, where I live I see a lot of them swimming around, its such a treat.
