People need to know the facts and the truth about gun violence and how it impacts us every day.

Today you can help make sure those facts get out there. Our quick and informative quiz is easy to share online. And studies show that when it comes to social networks, people trust information and posts by their friends more than by anyone else.1 It couldn't be more important to share this information right now--too many children, mothers, fathers, wives and husbands die every day because of gun violence. If we don't get the facts out now, we may lose our chance to do something about it.

This is really well done. Great way to educate folks on the truth about gun violence. Angelika - Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for an outstanding article, Angelika. For one thing, it makes me grateful that my home is north of the "line in the snow" better known as the US Canada border.

I was right on all my answers...which is pretty scary given what they were!

Right on all answers. I wish it was not so. I don't know what Obama or anyone can do about the US heritage of gun violence exploited so very well by the NRA.

What a curious quiz - Irepeated it to make sure, and got 100% on both tries, but was told I only got 75% on the results.

Some sociological information can lead to understanding how the highly disturbed can control public opinion, although you all have seen historically its effects, whether Nazi takeover of Germany, corporate takeover of the world, or republican and tea party nonsense takeover of the US:
Boleslaw Szymanski of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York state studies how societies change their collective minds. By studying simulated networks of people he can predict the point at which a committed minority can convert almost everyone else to its way of thinking. For an idealised model, the size of this catalytic minority is just under 10%.

The Leninist groups that subverted the 1917 Russian revolution clearly understood how, and did so; proselytizing religion has also both done so, and formed groups subject to such minority influence.

THe NRA is another disinformation-spreading racket.
You will find they raise lobbying $ through simple tactics which can gain money and therefore power even from those who are opposed to their control of US government policy.

That is indeed strange Michael. Let's hope that Szymanski's predictions won't see the light of reality as for repubs converting the still majority of dems!

8 of 8, even though that 500% more likely number threw me, I'm sort of the persuasion that 100% is really as high as you can go. But I guessed right because I know women are more in danger from the men they live with than from anyone else. Sadly.

So true, Gene! Domestic violence has always been a major and quite old problem.

Great article, thanks Angelika. How the NRA that originally was created simply to improve Civil War soldiers marksmanship to dictating national agenda regarding ownership and background checks and handguns and 2nd A. 'rights' is a testament to money, corrupt and flawed gov't. and antisocial psychotic NRA leaders throughout their history.

A great way to educate. I got them all correct. The NRA has to be defanged! It is past time for reasonable gun control. People must receive training, pass tests, be licensed, have insurance, be subject to license renewals etc in order to drive a car. Why should guns be any different?

Thanks, although it is the first time I can remember that getting 100% on a quiz was depressing. The could have ask a few more to drive the point home based on this. The NRA always boasts that it represents 4 Million Americans, AARP represents 40 Million Americans. With 4 Million members the NRA represents only 1.2% of the US population and just under 2% of the registered US voters. When La Pierre, Keene et alia speak remember that on nearly every point they are saying what the Board of Directors says and that a minimum of 60% of their actual members do not agree with them as to universal background checks, high capacity magazines, assault rifles, keeping terrorists passing background checks. And why does the NRA always ignore the First Three Words of the Second Amendment, "A WELL REGULATED Militia, being necessary to the security of a fee state,..." and only focus on the "...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.". and why is it that when the NRA brags about and the Media hypes the Spikes in Gun Sales they always fail to mention that those spikes in sales are not lots more New people buying guns but Current Gun Owners buying more and more guns and ammo for their personal arsenals. As to the last the NRA does not care so long as the profits of the Gun and Ammo manufacturers increases, because that is all they care about.

The NRA is nothing but a bunch of bullies. It is high time our legislators stand up to them.

That "survey" was a real collection of propaganda BS and some answers were not accurate. The "study" on the percent of legal sales was a questionable study done in the early 90s before the instant check system was in place and the figure today is far less than 40% . Not all states allow private sales of firearms. Those charged with domestic abuse (not convicted but charged) cannot buy or own firearms which is a problem when the charges are false and that was the basis of the NRA objection. Those who have "failed" the "back ground check" really is the number who got a negative on the instant check and most were later allowed to make the purchase since the check was incorrectly processed or there was another person with the same or similar name flagged the database. Very few have been charged as attempting to make an illegal purchase. On the murder rate, keep in mind most are drug and gang related (not a few of which are due to criminal illegal aliens) and the US has a more diverse population than say Japan with different demographics so those comparisons are a bit misleading. The question on a gun and women in a domestic violence is not a valid one since it doesn't address when women use guns in self defense in those situations and is somewhat a pointless questions as phrased. The question on gun deaths is phrased also to get a response that is misleading in part since it doesn't ask a death rate per 1000 population that could be compared to other countries nor does it cull out suicides and accidents from the total to see what that figure actually represents. This is far from an objective survey nor an accurate one with the answers it says are 'correct".

Yelling for big brother to help us isn't going to help. It's going to increase violence. Don't think the criminals are going to give up their guns. But, knowing we most likely have submtted to government invasion of our rights, they will feel all the more free to break into our homes and slaughter our children. They'll figure we have no defense. And if we do protect our children with our guns, we'll be taken to court. Who will support our little ones then?

You can always get a gun off the street.

There are other weapons you can use to kill.

Remember the parable of the Arab and his camel. First the camel put his head inside the tent. The Arab figured the camel wasn't hurting anything. Then the camel put his front feet inside the tent. "Let him. No harm". The Arab awakened to find himself outside the tent with the camel inside. Then, the camel kicked him away.

This is a convenient way for the government to take away our rights. AND it will certainly help solve the problem of over population which very much concerns people like Bill Gates. I listened to his speech about how over population is the biggest problem we've got.

Wake up before the camel kicks you.

Think about it. Criminals fully armed.

Law abiding citizens disarmed.

This is just the beginning.

Think about it:

a gun (any gun) *might*, on rare occasions, be helpful (and on other occasions be detrimental; guns do tend to escalate conflicts)

A gun (every gun) *is*certainly* damaging to humankind, e.g. every cent spent on such directly supports the military-industrial psychotics

and " Every gun that is made... signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. The world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. " -- General Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969), Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces 1943-45, 34th US Pres.(Rep.) 1953-1961; in his April, 1953 speech
I 'pray' and hope to live to see the days when buying & owning (and even more so firing, producing, selling, and advocating or advertising for) a gun will be looked upon like, say, smoking crack while pregnant to-day.

My dad and stepmom are gun crazy, and that is their primary determining factor for voting, i.e., they both voted for G.W.B. twice for the sole reason that they thought the other guy would try to take away their guns. I've had blood-boiling arguements with them about their political affiliations, and the fact that their votes are ruining the planet for my child, who will live with the consequences of their stupidity long after they are dead, but to no avail.
Literally, those who are obsessed with protecting themselves with guns are not rational -- they are ruled primarily by fear, which makes them self-obsessed. To many of these people, race war is imminent, as is the invasion of their homes and the raping of all white women. This quiz can appeal to the rational people in our society, but not to ditto-heads.

I don't have another star for you yet, sorry Kirsten. But thank you for your great comment and Kudos to you and your efforts in educating your family! And we won't give up hoping and thinking that the rational folks still outnumber the dittoheads!
