On the outskirts of Ghana's biggest city sits a smoldering wasteland, a slum carved into the banks of the Korle Lagoon, one of the most polluted bodies of water on earth. The locals call it Sodom and Gomorrah.

This is why I don't have (or want) a smartphone, I-pad, notebook or anything that may end up contributing to this environmental and humanitarian disaster! The saddest part is that the only reason this is done is because of the "designed for the dump" philosophy of manufacturers.

Thank you Angelika. Noted and shared.

The thing is, although it seems like we are sending the toxicity of our ewaste to other parts of the world, the byproducts still come back to haunt us: burnt plastic in the air and heavy metals in the oceans. Nothing ever gets "thrown away," which is why real recycling programs must be implemented LOCALLY, better sooner than later.

Noted and shared. This is appalling. I thought it was just bad environmentally, but then after reading the article, I realize it is so much more with all of the personal information that is apparently retrievable in many cases. The article was disturbing.

Thanks Angelika. This is not the first video of its type I've seen; there have even been tv documentaries in Australia for some time on these issues. I hope this video gets a great deal of publicity.

Didn't know how bad the e-waste problem really is. It is just shocking to see the pollution it is creating. Governments just seem to turn a blind eye.
