"I want to make sure that people understand actually drones have not caused a huge number of civilian casualties…. For the most part, they have been very precise, precision strikes against al Qaeda and their affiliates. And we are very careful in terms of how it's been applied."

- President Obama, January 2012

The exceedingly contraversial United States Drone Program seems to be at the top of the news almost on a daily basis. As more and more is disclosed about the drone program, the more outraged the American populace seems to be. With that said, much still is not reported or under reported inferring that the program is a necessary evil.

The Standford/NYU Law School report of 2012, "Living Under Drones" dissects the myths, distortions and outright lies presented to the American people by the current administration.

Please join Fred and Marg on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 2:00 pm EST (1:00 Central, 12:00 Mountain, 11:00 am Pacific and 3:00 pm Atlantic) on Lies My Country Told Me, "Let's Talk Drones" . We will be discussing the United States Drone Program, the facts, the legality and the morality. Either join us in the chatroom or call in at (347) 677-1814 and share your opinions.

A reminder: White House petitions can be signed by EVERYONE- you need NOT be a US citizen for that !
If you do not have an account yet please create one, it's easy and only takes a minute.
On this important issue we need to get the required 100000 signatures!

I agree, Abdessalam! We can see exactly WHO signed and who did not but noted this. But I also do know that the WH site occasionally has problems with sending out that return / confirmation email, people need to try several times if necessary.!

The main task is now to get those first 150 signatures needed for the petition to become publicly searchable on that site; once it's in the list it will be easier to collect more signs.

I do not understand why this petition is not doing much better. Obama's approval rating is only at 46%. Those drones can spy and kill.

I am surprised that many concerned parents are not signing this petition. The government could kill their own children and provide false justifications for their murders. Instead of teenagers being tasored on school premises, we will have teenagers killed outside 7-11 Stores for attempted robbery or for simply misunderstood behavior!!!

Oh, by the way, I provided the eighteenth signature. I have returned everyday since signing in hope of seeing more than one thousand signatures!

Thanks Portland, I couldn't agree more. I, too am very disappointed that although fairly well noted just too many didn't sign. Probably either too lazy to take the time to create an account or had a tech failure in trying so.
It did not stay long enough on front page.

57 notes, 37 signatures-in 5 days! this is a crying shame and clearly shows the incredible indifference towards "legalized assassinations" at home and elsewhere. Would these drones go after animals (which they also kill as collateral damage!) this petition would have got way more than 37 signatures in ONE DAY!

How is it that this has only 37 signatures even after I signed? I'm getting a bit suspicious about these White House petitions.

I actually emailed the petition to four different hosts of the Coast To Coast AM radio show, an international program that airs out of Los Angeles.

Either the syndicated program has a policy against receiving those kinds of emails or they do not check their email accounts anymore, because I never got a response. I sincerely thought if the hosts would mention the petition on air, especially since they are always talking about their concerns over these drones, that several thousand people would sign the petition from all over the world. However, my efforts were for nought!!!

Ten years from now, the U.S. citizens will be complaining about these drones, especially since Obama has publicly revealed that he plans on having several, several thousand drones soaring, hovering in and circling the skies.

This really stinks - that means that no one beyond Care2 has seen or decided to sign this petition. I know many have tweeted this and shared this on Facebook, as well as sharing with friends. I see these remarkably low numbers on each of the White House.gov petitions. I wonder what the "deal" is for these petitions.

What is wrong with everyone other than us?!!! Rand Paul had a 13-hour filibuster pretty much covering this very issue! He did it to bring attention to the issue!!!

I do not know what to say!

I guess if one believes that this drone situation will not affect them, then, they do not give a moment for concern. However, I recently learned that a teenager in the Middle East was recently killed by a drone for being related to one of the high-ranking Al Qaeda terrorists. I believe the 17-year-old teenager was a nephew. His only crime was his DNA!!! Sincerely! Now … Just think about that!

An author, John Williams of shadowstats.com, was on a talk radio show program selling his new book about hyperinflation. During the interview, he also covered how some drones were being used.

Portland, as sad as this is but folks are just too indifferent if it does not directly concern them at their home and/or own people. many Non-US members here are perhaps also either too ignorant or too lazy to create an account for signing. Yes, it is a shame and a great pity but I am unable to change that. The answer to this, recently issued by DOJ, AG Holder is of course insufficient and the endless filibuster has also not gotten us any further yet.
