Gay adults will remain barred from serving as Scout leaders.

Of the local Scout leaders voting at their annual meeting in Texas, more than 60 percent supported the proposal.

Good news.. I guess- personally I wouldn't let my kid anywhere near an organization that needed to vote on Human Rights.

This is marvelous news! We are beginning to teach our youth to love and accept one another! Thank you! (n, p, t)

The BSA still doesn't get it. Is there a badge for homophobia?

I'm very happy about this! I just don't see why they are allowing scouts but not leaders, is this some sort of compromise. Just thinking out loud!
Thanks, Angie.

Karen, you need to ask the BSA that. Perhaps they fear sexual abuse because of the age difference or leader status ,whatever..

OK- so do I understand this correctly?- A boy who has homosexual preferences is told now that he is "OK" and can be admitted and participate fully. However, once he is done with scouts and wishes to continue in teh organization, he is now told he is "a threat" to the kind of person he was when he was a scout? I wonder how that makes a homosexual scout feel.

I was abused by a senior Boy Scout and complained to the scout leader who turned out to be the boyfriend of the abuser. The scouts are an outstanding institution and have made a huge mistake. We need to keep sexual predators far away from scouting.

I am sorry to hear this, John, and that's why they keep up the ban for seniors /leaders.
Phil-as to your question I wouldn't know how that will be handled and also don't know how the organisation works. Apparently differently from over here as we have no "done with scouts",-you leave or you stay, regardless of age. Leaders are being elected.
