Tobacco companies are still allowed to sell menthol cigarettes even though evidence suggests that they help to addict young people to cigarettes and keep them addicted for life. It's especially bad in communities of color: >>

80% of African Americans and 47% of Latinos smoke menthols.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering a ban on menthol cigarettes, but the tobacco lobby is pushing for the right to continue to target our communities with their poison.
The Food and Drug Administration banned every other cigarette flavoring years ago -- only menthol was spared, due largely to the tobacco companies’ intense lobbying. Adding menthol to cigarettes is Big Tobacco’s last legally permissible gimmick to hook people of color on smoking.

If you want to ban cigs, fine, but to say "disproportionately hook Latinos, African Americans and other people of color" is just made up nonsense..

@ John S.- if you think it is "just made up nonsense" then perhaps get informed or address your claims to the HuffPo, Forbes or the National Cancer Institue. (, -
The numbers speak for themselves and are research results.

I've stopped smoking tobacco; insted I smoke legal herbs (like the native Americans), to be found on the internet - I don't dare to say the name, because of spam, but I can tell I live much healthier without tobacco.

If people want to smoke, let them. It isn't hurting you. No one can smoke indoors anymore. Leave smokers alone! Just FYI, I am an ex-smoker.

It is a travesty to the health of a person to continue to manufacture and sell an item that is dangerous. They are still knowingly doing this. It is bad enough with regular, but menthol makes it worse. If you can't stop the whoke thing at least get rid of the menthol.

signed but suggested that they stop the sale of meat and dairy. Meat is responsible for 7 cancers, while cigarettes 2 forms of cancer. Why wouldn't you go after the items that are the most harmful to humans, and that it meat and dairy.

Angelika - the fact they smoke the cigarettes does not mean they are more addictive, or are whites more addictive to non menthol. Point being, words matter, and this is made up nonsense. If you want to ban cigarettes, do so, but do so honestly. It if want to debate the math or causation I have to tell you I am a Six Sigma Master Black Belt.

Thank you for signing! Please spread the word.

Cigarettes a product when used correctly will cause your death.

If you haven't started to smoke do not start. If you smoke, do everything in your power to stop.

I lost a husband to lung cancer only in his fifties with two children still to raise and now a Mother soon to loose her for same reason. Thankful she got a much longer life as she smoked less and didn't inhale as deeply as he did.....but none the less, she still got lung cancer.

Please don't smoke. For yourself and your loved ones.
