SYDNEY - A spokesman for Israel’s Foreign Ministry has conceded that human rights abuses of Palestinian children in the West Bank are “intolerable” and that having soldiers arrest young kids in the middle of the night is problematic. The admissions by Yigal Palmor were contained in an investigative documentary produced by a team of Australian journalists and aired last night by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

From article:

Last month Justice Minister Tzipi LIvni ordered the practice of keeping some detainees - including minors - locked in outdoor cages overnight to be stopped. Israel has agreed to try issuing Palestinian children with a summons instead of being arrested at night, according to the documentary.

UPDATE: This article was amended to reflect the fact that the now-halted practice of holding detainees in outdoor cages involved Israeli citizens and not necessarily Palestinians.

It's all 'he said, she said'. And it's another anti Israel post. Have we forgotten the rest of the world???

@Natalie-have you read it? The "he said, she said" in this case would be the UN and an Israeli official. Nothing "anit-Israel" about this post, just facts that the so pro-Israel -under- all -circumstances don't want to see or hear.

The name "The Public Committee Against Torture in Israel" sounds just great!

Why there is no "The Public Committee Against Torture in Iran" , "The Public Committee Against Torture in Iraq", "The Public Committee Against Torture in Syria", "The Public Committee Against Torture in Gaza", etc?

Because people who start such campaings will be tortured for real.

Good Dawah, Angelika.

To me, Bob, it doesn't sound all that great, wish there were no need for such committees! I would think there are also those other ones you miss, perhaps with different names, but all of them, like this here the article is referencing, based on and backed by UN findings.

This is the ONLY democracy in the middle east. There is more to read :

Are you surprised with what is happening in the occupied Palestinian land ? This is a routine. It happens everyday. Today Wednesday Feb,12 for example Israeli policemen arrest 7 Jerusalemites including 5 children

Israeli police forces arrested Wednesday morning seven Jerusalemites, including five children who were taken to Qishleh police station for investigation.

Two children, 12 years old, were severely beaten and assaulted during their arrest before being transferred to the police station in the Old City in occupied Jerusalem. The three other children were all 15 years old.

An apartheid state does more than that . Did you hear about this?

Pregnant Palestinian denied quick hospital access - Route that would have been short-cut to hospital is 'not meant for Palestinians.' Read the big news in HAARETZ

4 injured, 1 arrested in clashes in Beit Ummar
Published today (updated) 12/02/2014 21:19

HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Three Palestinians were injured with rubber-coated steel bullets and dozens of others suffered from excessive tear gas inhalation in clashes with Israeli forces in Beit Ummar north of Hebron.

Spokesman for the popular resistance committee in Beit Ummar Mohammad Ayyad said that clashes broke out in the village during a funeral.

Ayyad added that Israeli forces were deployed at the entrance of the village, and near the cemetery where the funeral was held. They attempted to arrest a 12-year-old boy and clashed with residents who tried to stop them.

Israeli forces fired tear gas, stun grenades, and rubber-coated steel bullets, he said.

Mohammad Ali Khalil Sabarneh, 30, was detained during the clashes.

Ahmad Mohammad Awad, 16, was struck with a rubber-coated steel bullet on his left brow, and he was taken to Aliya hospital in Hebron. Two others were shot with rubber-coated steel bullets in the feet and were treated on the spot.

Abdul Aziz Ikhleel, 48, was shot with a rubber-coated steel bullet in the head from the range of 10 meters as he was returning home from work on a tractor, Ayyad said.

He was taken to al-Hikma medical complex, then transferred to Aliya hospital for treatment.

Israeli forces also fired a tear gas canister into the house of Nazih Mohammad Hussein Alqam, causing family members including a toddler to suffer from inhalation, he said.

Sharon ordered expulsion of 3,000 Bedouin, new biography reveals
Book: During secret 1972 military exercise in Sinai, dozens of children and elderly were expelled in the bitter cold of night, and died.
By Anshel Pfeffer | Feb. 12, 2014 | 3:00 AM

Maj. Gen. Ariel Sharon, had ordered the expulsion of three thousand civilians, members of two Bedouin tribes whose encampments and grazing grounds were in the exercise area. The expulsion took place without warning, during a freezing desert cold snap, without time for the Bedouin to take their belongings, causing around forty deaths, mainly of children, babies and old people.

As you could see on my other post of today (Naftali Bennett Walks Out of European Parliament Chief's Speech ), if anyone even dares to politely address issues of injust treatment of Palestinian kids by the Israeli authorities, the Knesset outbursts in uproar. I applaud the EU parliament president and hope there will be more speaking up until they get answers and proof. This twist and spin of reality must end.

Abdessalam, what makes you think that the whole land in the Middle East belongs to Arabs?

You may declare Israel "Occupying" its own lands, but either way Arabs never had any rights on those lands in the first place. And if you push really hard, Israel should open a Pandorra Box asking why is Jordan allowed to keep 20% of lands, originally allocated to the Jewish state by the San-Remo conference.

Arabs should be grateful to Israel that Israel agrees to give some of its tiny land to Palestinian Arabs. Even though NONE of the Arab states, including your Egypt, agreed to give any of their vast lands to Kurds, Druze or very same Palestinian Arabs, of which you seem to take such a great care, as long as it is at Israel's expense.
