16 Cattle Drop Dead Near Mysterious Fluid at Gas Drilling Site

Environment  (tags: cattle, pollution, animals, industry, hydraulic fracturing )

ProPublica has been reporting for months [2] about how natural gas drilling is affecting the environment, but of all the causes for concern we've reported, here's a doozy. Sixteen cattle dropped dead in a northwestern Louisiana field this week.

Well, we can't do anything that might effect Halliburton's bottom line. Sigh. I hate Haliburton and all the other companies that make huge fortunes off the despoiling of the earth, around the whole bloody globe.

This is just another way man is just for his own pocket. Do you think they think of the cosequenses of their actions? As stated They are just trying to make a living. I guess it doesnt matter about the cattle and the pollution of our earth.

Profit before welfare, a somewhat typical behaviour of the Bush administration, hopefully Obamawill get around to reviewing the control that companies have. It is no excuse to say that gas is being made available for energy if it means damaging health.

So, let me get this straight - if it had been 16 people instead of 16 cattle - do you think that it should release the ingredients? If this stuff gets into the drinking water, the effects might not be as dramatic - people might not drink it and then drop dead - no, it would poison them a bit at a time. Dead is dead - profts should not be made at the expense of people. What is the use of money after you have polluted the air and you can't breathe, the earth and it will give no food and the water? I am the Lorax, I speak for the trees is just as relevant today as it was in the 1950s - more so.

As the daughter of a Natural Gas Driller and family owned company as well as an environmentalist, I must say I'm a bit suprised at the comments and hostility automatically blaming the Drilling Industry. Regulations in the drilling field are quite strict for environment safety. Why were these cattle so close to the drilling site? Better yet, Why was the drilling site so close to these cattle? Quite frankly, clearly, SOMEONE wasn't doing their job!
Further more, natural gas is desperately needed. If only EVERYONE did their part there would be no accidents and we would all live in a perfect world.
Perhaps we should not be so quick to judge. Blessed Be.

Irresponsible drilling.
Move the cattle first. Once again no respect for animals.

To B. R really. The earth is in serious trouble and as long as people think we need oil and gas we will never be able to save the earth. I think people need to read what Testler created in the 1900's . It could of save the world from any of the problems we have now with power. Not that his other invention which our Gov. decided to use is totally responcible for what is happing to the weather around the world now because of the misuse of one of his inventions. Man in his ego needs to eat meat to be big and strong. Do you know heards of elk are dying inside the US? It started with the deer. Who ever wants to drill, drill in your backyard only. Nobody will admit to what is happening to the planet really even Disney's new movie shows it straight out. I wish in some strange way all the cattle would die. Do you know that is the second biggest reason for our rainforrests being destroyed and you all know by what company. T -Hawksblood

Second thought. Do you know that our Gov. takes the land from the Reservations and puts cattle on it for five years and after it is destroyed they give it back. Nobody says anything about that. People need to wake up. Meat tastes great, But it is not good in the body really. The need for more meat keeps growing every day. the world will never be able to keep up with the Drilling and Chopping down on the planet. T-Hawksblood

These huge conglomerates don't appear to be happy unless they are dispoiling some part of the planet. It will be strange place when they have concreted over the whole world and even the bacteria have died. What will they do with no workers, no animals, no plants, no water, sit and count their money in daylight hours only assuming the sun hasn't retired on half pay! Wake up to wastage now and stop looking for more stuff to waste before the world is completely wasted!

Rebecca R:

Given your claim of being a daughter of a gas driller with a family owned business, and an environmentalist to boot, I'm puzzled as to why you're surprised by "hostile" comments in a Care2 forum. It doesn't make sense to me that with family conections in that type of business would, in addition to being an environmentalist, be inured to less-than-enamored comments from the public. I'm puzzled by the naivety of your remarks given that you have relatives in the gas drilling business. Are we really to believe that the gas industry members are sticklers for the rules; that they adhere to regulations governing safety protocols? IROTFLMAO

Anyone employed long enough in any industry will be made painfully aware of the "THERE GOVERNMENT HAS THEIR RULES...AND WE HAVE OUR RULES (the way we do things)!" This applies across the entire business spectrum, regardless of who you work for or where your company is located.
