Man sentenced for
abusing family cat
McKinley receives 18 months to six
years in prison

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Muskegon Heights man charged with beating his family cat was sentenced Monday and will spend anywhere from 18 months to six years in prison.

The incident happened at around 10 p.m. July 6 at his home, near Harrison Boulevard and Airline Road.

Joshua James McKinley, 30, got in a fight with his wife, entered the house and found the cat eating off of the dinner table, according to police.

He grabbed the cat, named Whiskey, and slammed it numerous times into the floor. The cat was taken to a veterinarian's office, where it was treated for a possible broken back and legs.

Nora-it's been my experience that being a coward is a prerequisite and requirement for being an animal abuser. Thanks, hon-I hope he has a nice long stay with a big old biker who just loves kittens...

Serves him right. Better 6 years as nothing at all. Hope the jerk gets beaten up by his inmates. Wish I had the adresse of this jail I would write him a letter that will knock him down and make him pray on his knees for mercy.

Why is it that when people get angry they use animals as their objects to release their anger when clearly, the animal did nothing wrong and played no part at all, absolutely nothing, in the person's problem and struggles. Why can't they just beat up a pillow or mess up their room when they're angry, not hurt the innocent animals.
