Atria has a trackrecord of medication errors, short staffing, and skyrocketing rents. And Atria also has a history of short-changing low-wage, predominantly minority workers.

Only the 'scum' of society would hurt elderly people that gave us the best gift: Life.

I have helped several people relocate to assisted living facilities. Atria was one of them. The staff was very nice at Atria, however, I was very disappointed in Atria's tiny rooms and lack of attention to detail when factoring in the very high price. It was obviouse that they were understaffed as I noticed the delays in repairs and other response times. After reading about Wasserstein and Lazard my personal observations now make sense. This must change NOW!

That video is the reason why I have been taking care of my 90 year old mother for 4 years. I refuse to put her into a high rent-low care facility while I am able and willing to take care of her myself. It is shameful the way some of these large corporations, who own these types of facilities, get rich off of the pain of others.

Thank you for this article. I took care of my mother till i absolutely had no choice but to put her in a home, not one of Lazard's but it really is an attrocity the way that the elderly are treated in this country. I had originally planned to put her in a certian home, but it was in the process of being approved by the city, as it was a new home, and the owner recommened another home in the meantime. My kids and I were in California, on vacation, and I get a phone call saying, " Your mother needs milk and cookies" I about lost it right there. I was in total disbelief. I asked them do YOU not provide milk to YOUR guests?? And they told me that she drinks too much milk. Needless to say I got back to Az and got her out of there and into the home that I originally planned on, they made space in one of their other homes till the new one opened. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately she died 5 weeks after I put her in the home. She never really even knew that she was there, thank god, she still thought she was at our home. I felt as though her soul had left her body many years before, she was just hanging on to make sure that my kids and I were going to be okay. God bless all mothers. She was a very strong woman, and I am proud to say that I was her daughter. And I miss her more than anyone could ever know! RIP C.C.

Bless you Terri, I had to install my Mom in a home in Calgary, and when she passed away they could not find her suitcase that had her good clothes in it. The beautiful teal silk suit that she wore as grandmother of the groom, and all her other nice clothes were stolen. When they asked me to forward the last month's rent I told them to get it from the thief that stole her $567.00 silk suit. I never heard another word from them.

Good on you Black Tiger, I wouldn't have paid it either. It really is unbelievable what goes on in these places...I told my kids to push me over a cliff, rather than put me in a home. I am so sorry about your Mom and how sad it was to not get her personal things back.

Elder abuse in any form should be a concern to all of us. Not only because the way to judge a society is how it treats it's oldest members, but also because some day will be OLD ourselves...

Pretty disgusting situation but unfortunately very typical for big conglomerates with off-shore investments, which are only interested in profits and not the welfare of the clients or staff. I wanted to sign the petition but under Country , Canada was not listed. I'd hate to be in need of this facility or any which abuses the rights of Humans.
Canada suffers from the same situation and nothing is being done to give honour to the elderly who , in the sunset years are being given no due care and respect for their long lives of contributions to their country and governments. Very sad statement for our supposedly affluent society.People in third world countries take much better care of their elders, who are not shunted off to die in situation surrounded by a plethora of mismanagement and abuse. Peace in Our Quest for Truth
