Russia is about to start tapping into a huge source of diamonds that could supply the world market for the next 3,000 years. Scientists estimate there are 'trillions of carats' lying beneath a 35million-year-old asteroid crater in Siberia - more than ten

> Diamonds at Popigai Astroblem in Siberia are 'twice as hard' as normal,
seems like BS to me. 'twice as hard' on which scale ??

What are diamonds used for? I mean: what part for real (industrial) use, what part for vanity-purposes ?

so, I suppose this means war with Russia to claim it for ourselves, or working overtime to cripple the country economically and push the country towards spiralling into chaos so multinational corporations can move in and mine it for cheap?

just like humanity....think greedily of the riches before we even can learn about the science......

Thanks Marty.

Perhaps we can have too much of a good thing; see Australia's recent experience with industrial diamonds!

What ever happened to the manmade diamonds, rubies and emerald? Were they squashed by De biers?

Cool! Wonder what this will do to the African "blood" diamonds? I have several pieces........real (not big) and fake ones and all I know is that I can't tell the difference, so really don't care, personally. I also have real and lab-created emeralds, rubies and saphires and side-by-side, can't tell the difference between lab-created and mined.

The De Beers family group of companies are going to be really worried. They have controlled the diamond marked world wide so far by stockpiling diamonds and are very slowly releasing them to keep prices high, making billions. Finally they have competition, I wonder what Russia is going to do?
