I've heard and read several times that Neanderthals didn't disappear entirely, but interbred with Cro-Magnons and modern humans.

Some guys will mate with anything. I'm not surprised. Perhaps the result is sterile, like a mule. So maybe matings happened alot, but it was the end of the family line.

Кроманьонцы скрещивались с неандертальцами. У многих этносов сохранились некоторые черты неандертальцев. В основной же массе почти все мы чистокровные кроманьонцы.

Current genetic evidence tells us that homo sapiens sapientis interbred with homo sapiens neanderthalensis and the result is that in modern people of European ancestry and some people of Asian ancestry there is between 1-4 % neanderthal DNA. Sooooooo - there musta been some intermediate folks who were fertile. It's just a question of finding remains. I read years ago about intermediates found in caves in Israel. Nice post, and always welcome to hear about such findings. Thanks Marty.

Not enough information! This story sounds like the basis for a good science fiction book!
