There ARE places that are 'sacred' or 'cursed' or 'blessed', according to how you view them.
I, an Atheist but NOT a "Materialist", I verily do believe so!
"Ley Lines" and all that... the Landscape is/was ALIVE, to so-called "Primitive" people - who knew a lot more about some things, Spiritual things, than WE do! We and our "Science" are NOT the "last word" on EVERYthing in the Universe! Christianity has a lot to answer for, SUPPRESSING or attempting to wholly suppress, some Ancient Knowledge - which we might even find HELPFUL today, when our ARROGANCE about the Environment is being brot low!
On the Hawai'ian Islands, it is well-known that if you as a tourist take away a piece of Lava, the Volcano Goddess Pele' will be VERY ANGRY and Bad Things are bound to happen... there are LOTS of stories about this. Just the SAME as the Bad Luck if someone took a Stone off this "Witchcraft" island...

It could be a very ancient Tradition handed down thru many Generations - Oral Tradition is OFTEN VERY ACCURATE for even thousands of years, as Scientists have now proven...
Or, it could be that the Island STILL RESONATES to those who are Sensitive to it...
All I say is, those Scientists BETTER LEAVE THOSE ROCKS THEY FOUND, ON THAT ISLAND, I guess it's okay to take pictures of them, the tools, etc., but maybe NOT TO REMOVE THEM AND PUT THEM IN A DISTANT MUSEUM...!!!
I wouldn't take the CHANCE, if I was them...!
