A wildfire started on Sunday, August 12th, 2012 from an apparent lightning strike and by the time it was contained on August 30th it had burned over 315,577 acres in California's largest legally designated Wild Horse and Burro Herd Management Area...

That's north of Honey Lake, north of Reno. East of 395. Fair number of fires on the East side the last few years, as the lakes seem to be smaller from drying up. Ugly urban sprawl from Reno is moving that way.
I think there's some military and a prison erected near there nowdays.
Farther East is near Pyramid Lake and Palomino Valley where many rounded up horses are gathered in NV. Good high desert country with many hawks. Flyway for many birds.
