Special containment and disposal schemes are required to assure that chemicals cannot enter the atmosphere or groundwater once their containers deteriorate. In the United States the EPA is charged with formulating and enforcing appropriate regulations. Many leftover chemical dumps still present continuing hazards. They need to be corrected, but the cost is very high, therefore certain wealthy Companies prefer to poison people while their shareholders become even richer. Until the EPA wakes up, it is the duty of common citizens to publicly denounce pollutors and insist on adequate corrective measures..
