With the US continuing to have difficulty putting together a package that would relaunch Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, US President Barak Obama sent some warm words toward Israel on Tuesday night, saying Israeli-US relations were "more than a strategi

Most unfortunate news, Cal. As long as the US remains in the camp of bully Israel and turns a blind eye to Israel's maltreatment of the Palestinians both from the decades old occupation and the recent bombing of Gaza for 23 days, there will never be an opportunity to establish a true Mid-East peace.

If Arabs in Gaza dropped their military and extremist rhetoric, got rid of Hamas and started moving toward peace and democracy, they could be US friends too.

Hamas was bombing Israel for 8 YEARS, not for some 23 days they got in return. The chauvinistic and racist Hamas agenda precludes any opportunities to establish a true Mid-East peace.

The road to peace starts with an easy but very important step. This requires Israel to officially declare:
1 - Israel agrees and accept a Palestinian state on the land of Gaza and west bank of river Jordan which Israel occupied during the 1967 conflict including eastern Jerusalem with tiny amendments to be agreed upon between the two parties.
2 - freeze all settlement activities on the Arab's stolen land including East Jerusalem and approves to discuss the future of these settlements during the peace negotiations.
3- Set a reasonable time table for negotiations to avoid "endless negotiations"that only helps Israel to continue changing demographic situation in the occupied land.
4 - Israel should vow that negotiations will be based on ALL resolutions and decisions adopted by UN.
5- The Israeli / Palestinian settlement is one step forward towards withdrawal from Syrian and Lebanese occupied land according to UN resolutions within maximum 2-3 years.
ALL Arab countries in return will end the war status with Israel and start official diplomatic relations with Israel should she apply all her commitments according to the expected peace agreements.

I think the two states ( Palestine and Israel ) must be unarmed to avoid any future war.

As for President Obama's sayings :He himself said before that Israel must stop building settlements on the occupied land and that a peaceful settlement in the Middle East is an America interest. If he is trying now to play a different game rather than the "FAIR and JUST"game. Then Arabs and Muslims in general may consider the present American administration is just an extension of the previous G.W.Bush administration and will act accordingly.

First of all, the vast majority of Palestinian people (non-Jewish people - e.g. Muslims and Christians) in Palestine and Israel are not "Arabs". Arabs make up a tiny minority of Palestinian people, due to immigration from Arabia, especially in the 6th century AD. The rest of Palestinian people are Indigenous to Palestine, with ancestors from Palestine who were there for at least as long as the Jewish people were there. Archaeology and other science seems to show that the Jews and non-Jews in Palestine (now mostly called "Israel") are all descended from the same people, who Archaeologists have termed "Canaanites". The only difference is the religions that people's ancestors chose to practice.

Modern Israel is a western colony on the land of the Indigenous Palestinian people, and was created by terrorism and military force in 1947-1948. After a series of expansionist wars, Israel has now forced huge numbers of Indigenous Palestinian people out of their homes and land (resulting in millions of Palestinian people now living as refugees), and Israel now occupies and oppresses millions of Indigenous Palestinian people.

Israel has killed about 10x as many Indigenous Middle Eastern people as the number of Israelis killed by all of its enemies.

The world's only superpower - the USA - has been helping Israel to do this in recent decades, by giving U.S.$3-4 billions military aid to Israel each year, by vetoing security council resolutions that tell Israel to stop its oppression, and by using the U.S.A.'s huge political, economic and military power in other ways, too.

Israel and the USA are the only 2 nations that reject the the 2-state solution. Hamas and the rest of the world agree to the 2-state solution.

Simon Wood (300)
Thursday October 22, 2009, 3:26 am
There is an easy way for the USA to stop Israel from building more settlements on the Palestinian land occupied by the Israeli military, and to stop Israel's other abuses against the people of Palestine:

Stop U.S. support for Israel, until Israel stops its abuses.

This means not continuing U.S.$3-4 billion military aid to Israel each year; it means not vetoing security council resolutions that tell Israel to stop its oppression; and it means not using the U.S.A.'s huge political, economic and military power in other ways, to support Israeli abuses, too.

Khaled Mashal, also known as Khaled Mashaal, Khaled Meshaal, and Khalid Mish'al, (Arabic: خالد مشعل‎) (born 1956) has been the main leader of Hamas—a Palestinian political, social, and paramilitary organization—since the assassination of Abdel Aziz al-Rantissi in 2004.[1] In addition, Mashal heads the Syrian branch of the political bureau of Hamas.[2]. there/'s an interesting article on this from UPI--http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2009/05/09/Hamas-leader-rejects-two-state-solution/UPI-65911241892443/
Here's the content of that article:
UPI) -- Hamas will accept no less than a fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, the group's political leader in exile said Saturday.

Khaled Meshal, who lives in Syria, called a two-state solution unacceptable because Hamas cannot envision living with Israel in peace and security.

Meshal spoke Saturday at a news conference, following a gathering of several Palestinian factional leaders in exile, reported KUNA, the Kuwait news agency.

Hamas envisions a Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 border with Israel, with Jerusalem as the capital, all Jewish settlements dismantled and full sovereignty over land, air and water, Meshal said.

In 1967, Israel invaded and occupied the West Bank and Gaza. In 2005, Israeli forces withdrew from Gaza but continued to control it through blockades and checkpoints.

Last December, Israel, in response to repeated rocket attacks, launched a major incursion into Gaza killing, by Hamas estimates, more than 1,300 Palestinian civilians, a third of them children, KUNA reported.

So much for the Simon's ridiculous and patently misleading comment here:
Israel and the USA are the only 2 nations that reject the the 2-state solution. Hamas and the rest of the world agree to the 2-state solution.

Another outright falsehood is that "Modern Israel is a western colony on the land of the Indigenous Palestinian people, and was created by terrorism and military force in 1947-1948". Israel is not a colony of anyone, Simon, and was granted statehood, not colonial status, by the very UN that issues politically charged nonsense about sraeli abuses while ignoring other abuses by Arab nations and Iran in the UN. Getting oens' facts straight is helpful in discussing this important issue!

1 - For fairness USA was the one that revived about 6 years ago the idea of 2 states. It was a tactical move by G.W.Bush that never worked so far and I believe that it was not meant to work by Bush administration. The alternative idea was ONE democratic state where all Palestinians, including Jews, can live and have equal rights. The Palestinian Jews(should we name them) refuse this idea. They know that at the end of the day Israel is going to disappear without war. This is the nature of things.Hamas recently declared that it accepts a state on the the land occupied during 1967 conflict including eastern Jerusalem.
2 -you don't have the right to describe Simon's comments as "ridiculous"because you disagree with him. This is against Care2 rules.
3 - Yes ISRAEL IS A MODERN WESTERN COLONY ON THE LAND OF THE INDIGENOUS PALESTINIAN PEOPLE AND WAS CREATED AND IS STILL ALIVE BY TERRORISM AND MILITARY FORCE. Do you anything about the terrorist Zionist / Racist gangs that drove Palestinians from their land and homes and still obliging them to live in refugee camps?Do you know that some of the still living Israeli leaders were members of those gangs?
3 - Israel was granted a conditional statehood by UN security council should Arabs have their own state.
4 - Can you tell me about the borders of Israel?Ben Guerion said that Israel's land is where it's tanks can reach.
READ the history.Understand.See how crusaders, who killed thousands of Arabs, were defeated at the end of the day and the Zionist are not an exception.

Abdes, you read Koran too much (according to your profile) and expect others to think Koranic way. It won't happen.

If too many Arabs think your way, the peace won't happen any time soon. And the main losers will be Arab refugees from Palestine, kep[t in concentration "refugee" camps in Syria and Lebanon.

You want Arabs living at the territory of modern Israel get a state, in addition to 22 other Arab states and another state of Palestinian Arabs. That's OK. But then you specify that you want Israel to carry all costs. No buddy, things don't work like that.

Israel won lands in defensive wars and now these lands are Israel's according to the international law. The same as Germany lost lands to Czechs, and Japan lost lands to Russia. Nobody disputes those land transfers, because agressors, including Arab states, must be punished, and this is the law.

ARAB STATES MUST BE HOLD RESPONSIBLE FOR RACIST WARS THEY STARTED AGAINST ISRAEL. That includes Egypt, governed by Hitler's friend Naser at the time.

And you know, before you start coming with laundry lists of what you expect from Israel to achieve peace, think what Israel will gain. The terrorism will continue, Arab markets are relatively small, oil they get from other sources. The only benefit would be a lesser number of UN resolutions condemning Israel, but by now UN means much less to many people than it used to be.

Try thinking outside of the box.

Winning for Peace

It is about time to understand that there are no winners in wars and even if any side would win militarily, but it will not be able to guarantee peace and safety for its people. This conflict has been in our region since a long time and all the people in the region suffered and still suffering from its results.

The only way out for all sides is serious, honest, and sincere peace negotiations based on mutual respect for each other. It is about time for the Israeli people to understand that we the Arab do not want to throw them in the sea, and we are not seeking the destruction of Israel all what we want is simple and very clear to us:
- The return of the occupied territories to Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine.
- The free choice for the refugees to choose the rights of return , or compensation .
- The freedom of prisoners.
- A Palestinian state that is homogenous, viable, with continuous connected territory that the Palestinian people can move through it freely, these territories should be according to the pre 1967 ware, With some modifications and considerations to Jerusalem as being the holy site of the 3 religions.
- An equal measurements of peace keeping conditions on both sides of the boarders.

It is about time to know that unless Israel is convinced in taking this courageous step forward, there are no end to wars and suffering on both sides, it may win a war but it will never and ever win peace for its people and us, as the history has told us about all previous wars in our area, that Arabs are very patient for long time conflicts, crusaders have been here and forced to leave, ottomans been here and left, and others the same, clearly due to only one fact, which is we never give up on our struggle for freedom and peace, whatever is done to us, we continue on, one resistance group destruction results in the birth of five more, we are always ready to pay the price for our freedom. Now the stage is set for peace, as we are ready for it, a just peace built on equal sacrifices on both sides, and based on mutual understanding of each other’s needs, and worries, peace will be achieved when we put to practice the old saying" Want to the others, what you want to yourself".

The whole world is going through changes, joining together in larger groups, uniting in economical regional groups, and few in political terms, except the Middle East, and it is now the time to think of peace, economical, and political reforms in the Middle East, this region is blessed with enormous natural, and human resources, awaiting the wise and smart leaders to deploy for the benefits of the people of the region, leaders that have the foresight of a bright, and prospering future for the Middle East, together we can be one of the competitive, productive, and positive contributors to the global economy, and wealth. So we are saying it clear and loud "It is about time to partner together on making peace".

There are many double standards in the world... For example, Iran is attacked and condemned for 'hiding' secret nuke programs. Israel is KNOWN to have many nuke programs and WEAPONS, but has never acknowledged this or allowed any inspector to verify ANYTHING... Why the secrecy and double standard?

Israel was established like the US, with force of arms/UN mandate and taking lands from another people, who did not willingly agree to this taking.

What if the UN said that starting in 2010, whereever YOU live would now be known as Israel, and you would have to leave? I doubt anyone would like this situation, no matter how nice the people are who are moving in.

The extremist fundamentalist religious part of Israel has a goal of 'getting' the entire Mid East region for itself, by force if necessary.. Why? This land was promised to them in the Bible, Old Testament specifically. So no one is going to talk them out of it. This part of the Jewish religion is extreme, but they have been in power for many years, and were the original founders of Israel. That is why the 'settlements' keep going and will continue to keep on expanding and taking more land from their neighbors on all sides.. It is Divinely Ordained according to them.

Hadi, I don't see much difference between your laundry list of damands from Israel from the list by Abdes. I can't add much to what I already said. Don't expect Israel to pay your dues, and don't expect Arabs be treated differently then the rest of the world.

As for the patience - well, Jews waited 3,000 years to come back home, and I wouldn't expect them to give away their country.

You said world changes? Great! Realize, that Arab states have 10,000 more territory than Israel and settle the refugees. They are your brothers, theu speak the same language, pray in the same mosques, have similar customs. They became refugees because Arab countries attacked Israel, i.e. because of your own actions.

Saudis got OIL $$$, they can sponsor such re-settlement program. Israel settled more Jewish refugees (850,000) than there were Arab refugees (700,000) even without OIL $$$.

To summarize my point: ARAB STATES HAVE TO STOP DEMANDING FROM ISRAEL AND TO START CONTRIBUTING THEMSELVES.

Diab

I don't need lectures or diatribes from you or others. A Two state solution is the only way and equating the Zionists to Crusaders is ridiculous as everyone with knowledge of the history of the area knows that Jews and Palestinians (aka Philistines) both lived in the area for thousands of years together in war and peace. Crusaders were strict outsiders by almost eery standards, religious affinity notwithstanding.Israel isn't a western colony IN ANY FORM or some such nonsense and was legitimately granted statehood by the community of nations as part of the break-up of the former British Palestine into Arab and Jewish states

.As to borders, Jordan extended its' reach after 1947 to include both its current boundaries and the West bank and the Gaza trip (hence the concept of Transjordan was perpetuated. that wasn't in the planning by the UN For someone so versed, you know precious little about the true history of the are.a either.

"Stolen lands"

What complete verbal garbage!

It's well documented by tomes several inches in diameter that Egypt, jordan, Syria, and others conspired to completely eliminate Israel in 1967 and the Israel self-defense response was a legitimate right at that point to imminent aggression by its' Arab neighbors This doesn't mean that they have the right to keep all of the war spoils, but in the history of the are, all history, no other victorious party in war has had to give back so much territory as you demand. A double standard indeed!!! Ask yourself if the shoe was on the other foot what the response would be--I think you know that nothing like this would be proposed, less happen, even to the extent it has with Israel giving back Arab lands taken during the 1967

Hogwash! Those who say that the Palestinians must first stop being belligerent and then Israel will stop its bulldozing, bombing, imprisoning and harassing are full of it....
Say anything you want but there are the main two truths that can't be denied
(1) Israel continues to build settlements and take away land
(2) The Palestinians, like anyone, have the right to fight back

Wild Cat (3)

Bob,

1. Israel won the land from Jordan in the defensive war, so now they can build wherever they want, it's theirs. And surely it's not Palestinian Arabs planning a new state. Israel agrees to give them land to live, but it does NOT have to be ALL land;

2. The Palestinians, like anyone, and including Hamas, do NOT have a right to fight for destruction of Israel.

David R. (23)
Friday October 23, 2009, 7:56 am
1) How come the Palestinians didn't want to fight Jordan who controlled the West Bank from 1948-1967?
2) How come the Palestinians didn't want to fight Egypt who controlled Gaza between 1948-1967
3) How come the PLO was formed before the 6 day war if all they want is the West Bank & Gaza?
4) Why wasn't "Black September" labeled a war crime or Genocide when between 10,-20,000 Palestinians were killed by the Jordanian legion?

This post has nothing to do with the subject we are commenting on.It is a sample answer to those who run out of any reasonable, legitimate idea and try to cover this by being personal:
1 - You said I read the Quran too much according to my profile and that I expect others to think Quranic as well and said that this is not going to happen. My answer is very simple reading Quran is non of your business,I never expected any body to think Quranic although there isn't such expression. Those who were telling the truth commenting on this subject didn't need to think Quranic to raise their voices against all the criminal acts of Israel.
2 - I gave my real name and my intrests on my profile.I didn't hide behind a false name of a pet or an animal whether it is wild or not.your profile shows that you joined 13 days ago and you are interested in nothing. Why did you join care 2 then ? to be a voice of Zionism? Stating that UN has no value?Want the world to act the Israeli barbaric way?
3- Why do want the Zionist Arab conflict to be a religiose one while you know that is a geopolitical dispute and that Zionism not Judiasm is behind it?or may be you are ignorant and know nothing about this?
4 - Remember these words very well and let your children and grand chilrden learn it." THE MEEK WILL INHERIT THE EARTH" not those who posess the latest technological war machine.and remember again and again that Israel is scared to death of peace. You know why?Because peace means the disappearence of Israel.

I count Abdessalam as one of my most special friends here at Care2 or anywhere else for that matter.... I respect his counsel, common sense and in-depth understanding of the bigger picture not the slanted version of the issues, problems, encountered by the people of the Middle East. Hell! Wake up America take a hard look around you! Do you like what you see? If you do then you had to be on the take of that mind blowing bail out scam.. You're certainly not a home owner or someone who's been scammed by the credit card companies, now are you? Have you stopped to understand that in many ways this is the argument of the people in the Middle East as it was south of the American border where our Government, corporations, beat down the door of communism as they exploited, plundered the land of others causing injustices to befall our neighbors in the south of the border countries..

"We", especially, here in America in particular, are fed, via the media, what ever suits the corporations, the pentagon, concerning their, not our, interests in the Middle east, or, for that matter, anywhere else where faceless corporations "Dare" plunder billions, if not trillions of dollars.. often destroying the land while usurping the resources of these countries.

I have paid close attention to the politics running, some would "Dare" say ruining the creditability of Israel and even our nation. I am not going to beat a dead horse since I have written extensively on this issue! I've come to the conclusion that If peace in the Middle East were a genuine goal of certain members of the Israeli government and those nations plundering the Middle East, with the assistance of those who would "Dare" sell out their own peoples, it would have happened by now.. So what's the problem? Why is it easier to blame, slaughter the Palestinian people, their children, who have had bad luck with their leadership?

Are "We" Americas doing much better? Are our leaders listening to US? Did they listen when we said no to war with Iraq? Ask a home owner on the ropes if the banks who got billions (Bail out) are listening to their pleas! Ask an injured employee being denied health care and rehab to get back on their feet if they feel good about their treatment and future! Ask someone who's child fell ill and the insurer cancelled their policy! Ask the guy or gal being laid off, while jobs leave the US of A, how they feel.. In the meantime, back at the ranch, huge amounts of funding, hard earned tax dollars, has gone towards those who made bad investments yet we rewarded them with what amounts to corporate welfare! Welfare saving banks, insurers, mortgage cos. etc., while the majority of American's left on the sideline continue hearing decries by those who were eager for thier bail out, now screaming, "There's no money for health care" for the least of these, , .

On another note, while this bad investment deal was going on who was watching the store? You see these very same institutions screwed, no other word will suffice, many of those very same Americans who were already going down the tubes with mortgage, credit card scams, health care costs as well as the cost of living going sky high.. If you, who seem so sure that the Israeli GOVERNMENT, NOW IN POWER, is the cats meow, then you are delusional and believe that all's well here in America as well. Palestinian families being oppressed, losing loved ones, land and precious time while being forced to live in limbo!

The signs are clear and they have been for a very long while. Gr$$d and empire building has been on the table of certain world leaders for far too long! Gr$$d's been comfortably roosting here in America especially when trickle down economics and deregulation were given a green light under another Bush. As long as gr$$d reigns, infiltrates, occupies the land and resources of others, peace will fail all who seek it!

Abdessalam, Simon and Hadi, touched on many truths here. They offered important information for those who have an open mind and the courage to "Dare" research, for themselves, what has been said here! There's one truth that many who have their head in the sand do not wish to admit, Empire building enriches the wealthy while enslaving the masses! As long as gr$$d continues it's pernicious, insatiable thirst and is allowed to push it's pernicious weight around we will all just go around and around in circles until, given time, "All" fall down.

Thank you Abdessalam, Simon and Hadi for making a sincere effort to enlighten. Sadly you can't fix, prejudice nor, stupid! Huda I understand your frustration! David, Bob good points.. I believe that there's light at the end of the tunnel . Many more American's are waking up and facing the reality zone.. "We". the American people. along with the Obama administration have a mess to clean up before we can move forward..with pride in our hearts! It's so important to remember, "When Dreams Die, So Too Goes Greatness!

Abdes, I am saying that debying responisbilities of Arab States for the agressive wars they started and coming with a long list of demands from Israel is understandable, considering your Koranic background, but contradicts concenpts of justice and honesty, and is counter-productive to the peace in the region.

For you, "peace means the disappearence of Israel". As long as the majority of Arabs think that way, Obama is just wasting his time and money over there.

First I don't have a Quranic back ground.I am a muslim and I am proud.secondly I am not saying that "peace means the disappearance of Israel" I meant if peace prevails.Israelis will find nothing to unite against.Israelis will start fighting each others and this will lead to the "disappearence of Israel as a state.Thirdly: Is it justice or honest to drive people from their homes and land.Is it just or honest to bomb the children with white phosphore even if they are firing some sort of fire works against Israel? Is it justice and honest to take peoples land and build settlements on it? The list is too long but it is good anyway because at the end of the day these settlements will belong to Arab Palestinians.Believe me the only way Israel may survive on the long run is the application of UN resolutions.

Abdes, rockets are not fireworks and Hamas planning genocide Israelis is not an entertainment crew. Don't treat readers as idiots.

Where did you get the idea that Israelis will start fighting each other? From Iraq, or Iran, or Yemen? Sorry, man, Israelis are too smart for that, though they can argue for hours and with great skills. They do Pro-Israel, Anti-Israel and anything in-between. Notice how much anti-Israel Jews are quoted here. Whereas cutting throats, honour killings, etc are not something Israelis do. You erred with the address.

White phosporus is used by all armies and yes, sometimes things can go wrong. Even Hamas a number of times shot rockets into Arab villages and killed Arab people named Martyrs immediately after.

Arab states have a luxury to dictate UN resolutions to which civilized world opposes quite often. And now more often than before. Why should Israel accept obviously biased resolutions? I think they shouldn't.

Simple sing Abdes: if Hamas weren't bombing Israel and Israel didn't have to take care of them, there would be no phosphorus in Gaza. And none of those victims on both sides. There are no victims on the West Bank.

"I refuse to enlist in the Israeli military on grounds of conscience. Israel is not a nice country. It is a powerful police state founded on pathological paranoia with only a veneer of civility, carefully crafted and maintained for the consumption of those who still believe in the myth of Israeli democracy. Mainstream Israelis live in a fictional bubble that separates them from reality. If there is a democracy there, only this select group enjoys it -- just like the conformist white population in old South Africa. Supporting Israel now is the same as claiming that South Africa under apartheid was an acceptable democracy. It also means abandoning the Palestinians, just like the world abandoned black South Africans (and white dissidents) for 45 long years.

First of all you don't have the right to describe what I say as "complete verbal garbage" This is absolutely against Care2 rules. Those who are too nervus too read others' point of view don't deserve the right to use these street words. We are here on a repected web and you must be commited to it's regulation. Is that clear? I can use harshand impolite words to describe your views but Iwon't because I am a polite gentleman.
Secondly I am not giving lectures to anybody.I make thing clear for those who want to listen to the facts.I am simply saying that this fatal problem must be solved and solved yesterday better than today or tomorrow.Soving this problem based on justic and fairness will end more than 90% of the world problems. This will not leave an execuse for terrorists .It will put an end to 90% of violence and give USA a chance to pull out from Iraq and Afghanstan in an honorable way.If Israel doesn't like the 2 states solution,ok lets go to a one democratic state where both parties will enjoy equal rights.Even more.. the new state can be an unarmed one with security guarantee from the whole world including USA,Russia,China,German,France and other.

To WC I mean Wild Cat
We are not un the middle ages to acceptwhat you pretend is the right of Israel to keep the land she occupied. The world is different and what was possible in the past is now impossible. Now the world is changing and wor and more people understand the facts and I think one day Israel will not find who stands on her side wheather she is right or wrong.Even the USA where people are wking up day after day and realizing the facts and the connection between Zionism and corporates.
You think Israelis will continue united after prace? Why them Israel is afraid of peace? Are Israelis after the peace treaty with Egypt the same as before?Look at the elections results to discover the begining of difrences between Israelis.Since Camp David treaty NO SINGLE POLITICAL PARTY IN ISRAEL COULD GET THE VOTE OF THE MAJORITY.THESE ARE THE VERY BEGINING OF WHAT I SAY.You may understand it in a different way but this is how many experts see it.Wake up,think and don't be the voice of some one else.
