Why Is Sarah Palin Getting a Nature Show? Her Environmental Record Is Atrocious

Society & Culture  (tags: tv, politics, environment, Sara Palin, media, abuse, dishonesty, news )

Based on Palin's environmental record, she appears to hate nature. The Discovery Channel should really find a more appropriate host for their new nature show

PR is a wonderful thing that spawns many anomalies. This must rank alongside asking Hitler to officiate in a Synagogue! SP is so brain dead as to only function on superficial stimulus only.the same as all who abuse animals and humans! The conscience and moral wiring has been ether burnt out or was not there in the first place! Perhaps it is down to the Alaskn climate Oh dear she "thinks" (thinks being a euphamism for reacts right wing!) that is rubbish as well"

Anything that financially benefits this woman, especially something as ridiculous and stupid as a reality show, is extremely harmful to the American people and should be avoided at all costs. She continues to pray on the ignorant majority in this country and should be stopped!

And I won't apologize !

If the best defense you can come up with is the money this woman will attract for Discovery, then we can easily understand why we are where we are today-- Money talks; Decency / Quality / Coherence all walk !
Why shouldn't a half-wit with an atrocious environmental record host a nature show ? Why, no reason at all, since she will attract large audiences! Only thing that counts, apparently...

The only way to win this battle to keep her ignorant, hypocritical, greedy mug of the TV is BOYCOTT Discover/TLC and all sponsors affiliated with insisting they dirty up the air waves with this money grubbing ploy. She is a fake and detriment to our society. Putting her in as host for a nature show is disgusting and a real slap in the face to all that work so hard to truly make a difference for our wildlife and Country.

Discovering Sarah

Sarah Barracuda is my name
Flagrant self promotion is my aim
Stretching my 15 minutes of fame
Not hard to do, if you got no shame

All of those darn letters
It was a real deluge
Just because I wanted
To drill in the refuge

In Alaska, we can kill
Pregnant wolves while in the air
People say I have no conscience
They’re right I just don’t care

There is no climate change
That’s just snake oil science
EPA be damned
Hear me shout for non-compliance

Don’t worry BP
Those polar bears will be gone
After I leave New Hampshire
Right next to Oregon

About the Supreme Court
Decisions they have made
Nothing on my hand
So I had to evade

All I know is hunting
Let’s talk about that sport
Guns for everyone
How I get my support

Everything I did
Made people so pissed
Propelled me to the top
Of the bestsellers list

Got me a new show now
On the beauty of the state
Better film it now
Next year will be too late

Drill baby drill
Conservation ain’t my game
Kill baby kill
Alaska will never be the same

Cynthia Davis (340)
Monday April 5, 2010, 3:45 pm

Northern N, why waste your time (& ours) convincing us that a lot of right-wing creeps enjoy hearing biased news & views that comfort their right-wing ideology; and are delighted to see the creeps that spread their garbage on Fox? We know that!

Anyone with an ounce of brains can figure out that Palin is totally inappropriate to host any so-called 'nature' show. Anyone with an ounce of brains and/or is interested in what is really going on doesn't watch Fox.

Numbers don't win me over. Higher ratings don't make right !

I want to join Peasant Diva in expressing my contempt for the irrelevant and politically gloating figures Northern posted. They reflect the ignorance and mean-spiritedness of the majority of the Tea Party he wants ruling over you while he sits gloating in Canada. No offense to Canadians, we have more ignorance in the USA than you do. Recent empirical research found that the lower a person's education, the more likely was that person to be a Tea Partier and Fox News viewer and fan of Palin. Moreover the article Cal posted centered on Palin's record with respect to the environment and wildlife, not her politics. It just figures that a Tea Partier from Canada would post irrelevant material. Last, and most important: decency, compassion, lovingkindness, and caring about wildlife are not themselves political or dependent on intelligence or education. If God dictated my proverbial shipwrecking on a tiny island for the rest of my left, but gave me choice of it being with a barely-dressed Sarah Palin or a slow-minded and armour-suited but caring-hearted person of either gender who "got it" that helpless wolves shouldn't be shot from airplanes to yelp in pain while their pups are left to starve, or who "got it" that polar bears and cove dolphins need protected homes, I'd ask God to send Palin to hell and me to that heavenly island. If you agree go here:

Keep it up NE, your disruptive interjections show what kind of people support the Tea Party and Sarah Palin. And they show contempt for those who want on-topic comments. I'm happy to have my intelligence, education and caring for wildlife and the resources of earth on which all life depends compared and contrasted with yours any day of the week. So let's get it on, and let's stick to facts. Here's for openers. My avatar is of me holding a grand-nephew named after me, it stands for the love I'd like to see more of in this world right now, the kind of world I'd like him to live in, one with wildlife he can marvel at and love, wolves, polar bears, caribou and cove dolphins included, all of which Palin champions the slaughter of and adds to their suffering and risk of extinction. Your avatar? Looks like a cold-blooded reptilian eye to me. So you go ahead, set the record straight, tell what it is. And Northern you stay out of this, I'm doing you a favor, you and your Tea Party are known by the company you keep. Go ahead NE, continue the disruption. Let all who see this judge for themselves. Those who like what I have to say can go to
Those who like what you have to say can join the Tea Party.

Nancy L (141)

I told you before it was a wave. If you don't want to check it out I certainly can't make you. Tea Party Patriots also have families that they love. I have 4 children and 2 grand children that I love very much and I want to grow up the way I did. The people I know that belong to the Tea Party are good honest hard working citizens that love and care about this country. My family has a long history of service to this country. I have raised my children pretty much by myself, working 2 sometimes 3 jobs to do so. I donate to several charities monthly, have for years. Whenever anyone in our community needs, we give whatever we can as do most of the Tea Party members. You have no idea the amount of love and concern we have for others and our country. AND SO DOES PALIN.

Now you go look after them and your Tea Party, and do what Care2 rules require, stop disrupting this thread with off-topic comments. The Discovery Channel, Animal Planet programs have deteriorated horribly. After Whale Wars, I`m cancelling.
Concerning the ratings @ Northern.......doesn`t suprise me. A little off topic but, maybe not.........conservatives are not deep thinkers. There is now scientific proof. We are hardwired. About 15-20% of the population are considered H.S.P.s ( Highly Sensitive Person), or intuitive empaths. We are deep thinkers and are more reflective, thats how our brains are wired. Traditionally the Bohemian crowd......artists, writers, poets, academics and ``the caregivers`` of the world, and first to murdered by despots, as their minds can`t be controlled.
So I think between nature and nurture (or lack there of) a majority of people cannot think deep, and fall for illusion so easily.

The comment above reflects lack of awareness as to the facts of what is now happening in consequence of the outrage of millions who care deeply about wildlife and the environment. And there are people involved with years of professional experience in matters of media, advertising, and other things involved. I have just 6accidently§6 found out why we can't expect anything good from the 'Discovery' channel:
they'd bought the rights to Alex Gibney's excellent, heartbreaking, groundbreaking documentary, "Taxi to the Dark Side," then refused to air it.
Alex Gibney won the Academy Award for the Best Documentary Feature for “Taxi to the Dark Side” in 2008 and Amy Goodman wrote an excellent piece in Truthdig about the film itself, Alex Gibney's Oscar acceptance speech, & the whole story of Discovery's refusal to air it. Excerpts :

"...Gibney got a surprise, though, from the Discovery Channel, the television network that had bought the TV rights to the film. He told me: “Well, it turns out that the Discovery Channel isn’t so interested in discovery. I was told a little bit before my Academy Award nomination that they had no intention of airing the film, that new management had come in and they were about to go through a public offering, so it was probably too controversial for that. They didn’t want to cause any waves. It turns out Discovery turns out to be the see-no-evil/hear-no-evil channel.”

The Oscar ceremony was bereft of serious mention of the war, until Gibney rose to accept his award. He said: “Thank you very much, Academy. Here’s to all doc filmmakers. And, truth is, I think my dear wife Anne was kind of hoping I’d make a romantic comedy, but honestly, after Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, extraordinary rendition, that simply wasn’t possible. This is dedicated to two people who are no longer with us: Dilawar, the young Afghan taxi driver, and my father, a Navy interrogator who urged me to make this film because of his fury about what was being done to the rule of law. Let’s hope we can turn this country around, move away from the dark side and back to the light. Thank you very much.”

The Discovery Channel is owned by John Malone, the conservative mogul who owns Liberty Media, one of the largest media corporations on the planet. Malone is famous for his complex business deals that involve spinning off media properties with stock offerings that net him millions. He also has just gotten approval to swap his extensive stock holdings in News Corp., Rupert Murdoch’s empire, for control of Murdoch’s DirecTV satellite television system. When Discovery told Gibney they would not be airing “Taxi to the Dark Side,” Malone and Murdoch were awaiting approval for the DirecTV deal from the Bush administration’s Federal Communications Commission. (It was approved on Monday, the day after the Oscars.)

The film traces the final days of a young Afghan man, Dilawar (many Afghans use just one name), who was arrested in 2001 by the U.S. military and brought to the hellish prison at Bagram Air Base. Five days later, Dilawar was dead, beaten and tortured to death by the United States military. Gibney obtained remarkable eyewitness accounts of Dilawar’s demise from the very low-level soldiers who beat him to death. We see the simple village that was his lifelong home and hear from people there how Dilawar had volunteered to drive the taxi, which was an important source of income for the village.

Dilawar had never spent the night away from home. His first sleepover was spent with arms shackled overhead, subjected to sleep and water deprivation, receiving regular beatings, including harsh knee kicks to the legs that would render his legs “pulpified.” He had been fingered as a participant in a rocket attack on the Americans, by some Afghans who were later proved to be the attackers themselves. Gibney uses the tragic story of Dilawar to open up a searing and compelling indictment of U.S. torture policy from Bush and Cheney, through Donald Rumsfeld and the author of the infamous “torture memo,” now-University of California Berkeley law professor John Yoo. "
