Cal - I am not necessarily a fan of Hamas, but I do have a huge problem with Israel's increasingly acts of aggression on a civilian population and I am not speaking just of the flotilla. We, again, are going to unequivocally stand by a country which has the arrogance and audacity to make statements like "there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza"? Does Israel's age old occupation, the violations of human rights, the living conditions in Gaza have anything to do with the election of Hamas in Gaza?

Is is clearly apparent that the Israeli siege on Gaza has not lessened their strength whatsoever. I am not going to argue for or against the claim that Hamas is a terrorist organization, but almost each and every criticism of Israel is automatically defended with words of terrorism and Hamas.

I see no improvement in the West Bank, they are not represented by Hamas and refuse to be affiliated with them, yet the West Bank remains occupied, the Barrier Wall is still being constructed and peaceful protests against the Wall are met with military force. .

"Israeli MP Who Joined Flotilla Faces Witch-Hunt.
Officials try to Strip Haneen Zoubi of Citizenship."

Jonathan Cook reports that an Israeli Arab MP, Haneen Zoubi, who
has testified that she had seen passengers on board the Gaza-bound Turkish aid
ship Mavi Marmara shot in the head by Israeli soldiers and others left to bleed
to death, is now facing a possible trial and revocation of her citizenship for
speaking the truth. . .

Margaret, wouldn't have mentioned it, but Locan asked. No tolerance here for repression in anyone's name, no matter where. Extremists just derail peace wherever they control things.

It obviously wasn't the answer I was looking for but I thought it fair. After all, I did ask the question. My problem with all the whining and bitching about Hamas is that they have a long history of being financially supported by THE STATE OF ISRAEL. So who is really at the root and besides, if Americans and Israelis are allowed to elect a$$h0!@s then why aren't Palestinians?

Politics makes strange bedfellows yet again, Locan. remember, the CIA supported the Taliban thirty years ago in Afghanistan against the invading Russians!

Thank you Charlie Wilson! Cal, you prove my point. Though it was the Mujahideen and wasn't it nice how that turned out.

"Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government. But that jealousy to be useful must be impartial; else it becomes the instrument of the very influence to be avoided, instead of a defense against it. Excessive partiality for one foreign nation and excessive dislike of another cause those whom they actuate to see danger only on one side, and serve to veil and even second the arts of influence on the other. Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite are liable to become suspected and odious, while its tools and dupes usurp the applause and confidence of the people, to surrender their interests."
-George Washington, 17 September 1796 in his farewell address.
