China's government is coming under increasing pressure to reduce its use of the death penalty, slowly shifting the country's legal system away from centuries of authoritarian tradition and toward greater legal protection for individual rights.

Thanks Cal for this post; I'm glad to read that China is moving ahead.

To those of you who are thankful that you live in the USA remember that more people are incarcerated there than anywhere else on this planet--approximately 2.3 million excluding those on probation and parole.

In school I learned that China is one of the oldest civilizations - Maybe it was a misprint. It should read oldest UNcivilizations.

The American government assisted Mao into power and facilitated China in establishing its laws etc. in exchange for access to American banksters who were behind the whole deal at the expense of the people themselves. Fortunately the tide is turning as the Chinese realise they no longer have to kow tow to American foreign policy. As the people lift their standards of living we will see India emerge as the next slave paradise for American corporations who don't respect any borders in their pursuit of slave labour.
