Let's raise the pressure on all nations to ensure Mubarak's assets are returned to their rightful owners -- the Egyptian people. If we reach 500,000 by Friday -- we will deliver it to the G20 meeting.

Just signed after receiving their message - and reposted in a few of my groups.
Thanks Cal, I hope they'll at least get some of the money, but I fear it's hidden in a network of offshore companies and untraceable accounts.

Thanks for the article, Cal... it is double-dog wrong for this man to have stolen millions while the people suffered. Hopefully most of this money can be returned to the Egyptian people.

You cannot currently send a star to Cal because you have done so within the last week. Most definitely signed. But I think I heard on the news that at least his Swiss bank accounts have aslready been frozen, if not a few others as well.., -no? It was certainly discussed in Brussels as far as European investments and accounts are concerned. Thanks Cal.

Cheers Cal..

Wow, I am so surprised, deeply shocked that Mubarak would do something like this - the honorable man who has done so much for Egypt!!

I bloody knew it!! I think this was inevitable, he was hanging on just to try and cover his tracks.

Dictators are so predictable!

Peace to you..

No one has any shame anymore. It is clearly obvious this man has stolen from his country, and to know how nearly half the population had only $2 a day to live on. Low wages, cutting out jobs likely burdening employees to work for two while profiting from the cuts, etc. It seems he would be crawling on the floor out of office in shame, but not he acted like he was a martyr for Egypt. The same for this other fellow in France who is having sex with underaged girl and calling the allegations outrageous. Yes what he did was outrageous.
Even in America we have a large percentage of Congressmen who are millionaires. There were not when they got in office. That is still a lot of money. Where did they get it? They vote for corporations while leaving Americans in the dust without shame trying to cut domestic programs. The U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thomas is clear in conflict of interest in many areas, but the crooks will not make the crooks leave. It is just maddening. The Arab people re doing the right thing. We need a world wide revolt, and kick all the bastar*s out. Just clean house to make sure you get them all. Then what. More crooks just fill they spots. It is hopeless. Guess I will fix me a martini.

When we get our freedom in the U.S. we should get the money back from the Tobacco Racketeers.
5 of them, each to become richer than Bill Gates.
Orrin Hatch (R) Utah, Trent Lott's brother & 3 other attorneys.
100's of Billion$
Ending prohiition would free 850,000 prisoners annually.
Ending the urine testing racket would save Americans over $15 Billion annually.
Halliburton could return their record profits made from an illegal war under no-bid contracts. There's a Billion that Halliburton doesn't even pay taxes on.
When we fight the American police for our freedom, I wonder if the press will call us heroes or the politicians will call us criminals?

Already "Signed". Unfortunately, I think that almost every country has a similar dark history - whether it be land taken from Native Americans and Australian Aboriginals (otherwise known as "settlement"); or banks and factories taken from the working class in Eastern European countries (otherwise known as "privatization"); or land taken from peasants in China; the mining of minerals and destruction of forests in Africa and South America serving to maske a small minority rich; and the list goes on ...

Signed, but I agree with Zen's comment. Probably most of this stolen wealth is hidden in anonymous, untraceable bank accounts in less particular parts of the world. I do hope the Egyptian nation manages to retrieve some of it though.

This wonderful human being has taken from the Egyptian People upwards of $70 billion dollars yes 70 billion, this is theft on grand scale and he should go jail for the rest of his natural life. And his family and friends, while they have had to want for nothing his people have been and are starving. It disgusts me..

Sealed! Signed & Delivered..

It's time we freeze all the funds that have been stolen from hard working folks from around the world including those who have ripped American's off as well. The gr$$d of the few have caused great misery to the many..Those who serve a higher power or have a warm giving heart understand this..

Noted, signed, thanks Cal. John Cause has a point. We Americans have our own to get back from, as do other countries. That leads into Simon speaking the truth of historical theft from 'leaders', small to very large supposed leaders. We 'followers' let them get away with nearly all they can take by trusting them with powers they shouldn't have. Speaking from experience and reading between historical story lines. Zen is also right, most of the wealth has been distributed elsewhere and unavailable for public consumption...

The Egyptian people have shown a strength and determination that struck a chord in the hearts of all worldwide supporters of democracy. I strongly encourage those who found their steadfast actions -- and this petition -- to be noteworthy to promote it among friends, relatives and associates.

Avaaz has pledged:

"If we reach 500,000 by Friday [2/18/11] -- we will deliver it to the G20 meeting."

Now let's build pressure on key governments that can lead on recovering the stolen funds. It'll only take 3 minutes. Call the US Treasury on +1 (202) 622-2000 or the UK Treasury at +44 (0)20 7270 4558, or find the number of your nearest UK or US embassy.

Remember to be polite. Here are a few talking points:

•Mubarak, his cronies and family have stolen up to $70 billion from Egypt.
•It is up to the countries where those assets are held to immediately freeze them before they are hidden. This is their obligation under the new United Nations Convention Against Corruption and global action to recover those funds is critical in Egypts transition to democracy.
•The UK/US government should immediately freeze all of Mubarak's and his family's assets.
•The UK/US government must ensure the G20 meeting ends ends with a clear global action plan to freeze assets.

If you have time please email after you call so we can record what the Ministry is responding.
