Great article with very interesting facts about Mangroves but sadly again, human impact is destroying them at such speed, 50% of them disappeared in half a century! It's just unacceptable our doings.

I found it difficult to sympathise with the farmer and resort developers of Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand in the Tsunami disaster of 2004 as much of their travails were self-made. In those areas where the mangrove swamps had survived, the mangroves protected people, fields and houses from the main impact of the Tsunami. The area of mangrove destruction coincided with the greatest flood damage. Humanity refuses to learn from science or knowledge but occasionally learns from a massive Gaia induced kick in its collective backside. There are more harsh lessons in the pipeline.

Great article I hope they learn and save the Mangroves. We should live with nature and use it,not fight to bend it too our will. Evolution works and there is a reason for all the great diversity of the world.
