A win in New York would amplify the drumbeat for marriage equality across the nation. Please stand up for marriage equality -- and support the critical work of those on-the-ground in New York securing marriage rights right now

Cannot sign your petition because I am not American, but I wish it all the luck in the world!!! France, where I live, is somewhat archaic in this respect, but we have an election, like you, next year....let's all pray that we get better government next time around!

Cal, I'm too old-fashioned to sign the petition. I was brought up to believe in God's word: "one man and one woman" God did not state "man for man" and "woman for woman." He set it up as "one man for one woman" so we could be fruitful and multiply in marriage. If 2 men want to be lovers or 2 women want to be lovers that's no skin off my teeth. But I draw the line when it comes to gay and lesbian marriages. Noted, thanks, Cal.

Since the Mormons shot down our marriage rights in California, I'm happy to support them for New Yorkers.

Signed...

I am gay and I have children...with the aid of their lesbian mothers. Gays and lesbians can procreate..that just takes having sex.... DUH !!!! Gays and lesbians just don't care to marry one another is all. It takes more than 'one man one women' to be a family...and judging by the divorce rate between that one man one women couple thing ... :-) , well most of you get where that's going.

So if what some say about the procreating thing means that the couples of the one man one women catagory who can't have children should not be allow to marry or must divorce if they do not procreate as a bible God's said they must ? One would think that a God would have figured out that might be the case down the line for even that one man one women concept even.

I don't think 'old fashion' is the right word...homophobic...may be a better one ,but there are others that fit better than the worn out excuse of 'old fashion'. What a 'cop-out' word at best. Nothing gentle about that phrase anymore when it used to hiding ones other reasons behind it...it's been judged as just B.S. by the masses around the world ... it's meaning has been basterdize in order for too many people to use it as some sort of lame excuse.

Nothing old fashion about love or so I don't believe. I am still laughing at how some people still believe that gays and lesbians can't reproduce .. people don't need to fall in love and marry to reproduce...take Bristal Palin and Levi Johnson as example of that. If I can reproduce then I obviously should qualify to get married but can't unless it's to someone I don't love...but those who can't reproduce can't can marry regardless of love...? WTF kind of crazy is that lack of reasoning/excuse !? Bible tells people to stone those who eat shell fish but I've not noticed that happen in any of the cafes or resturants where we see people eating them daily. I don't see people stoning women who cheat or do not bow at the feet of their husbands....So if those who want to use God and or the bible as their sorry ass excuse then I would like to suggest that they read Levitcus in that bible of theirs and take the old fashion method and make sure you follow EACH OF THOSE old fashion God laws/concepts to the letter..not the pick and choose method that oh so many try to go with as some on this thread and always on threads that have to do with Equality in Marriage....

To me...those who go that route as their reasoning for being against Marriage Equality can strike that B.S. excuse from their list..as it's nothing more than an excuse for hiding their real reasons..maybe hate...fear..who knows but the phrase..old fashion... is not their real reason..unless they lack the ability of reasoning to begin with.
.
In this day and age a little less procreating might help our planet out a whole lot me thinketh.

Thanks Cal and to all those who have signed.

Well, Barbcat Sunshine Lady................. Nothing sunny about your "old fashioned" opinion.

I know damn well I can't and won't change your opinion, and I normally don't even respond to people who voice bigoted views like yours that are not rudely put, but you did choose to explain your rationale with Bible concepts that are not actually written in the Bible.

So, since you took the time to expand on your homophobia and presented your opinion as though it is fact because the Bible does NOT tell you this, I feel obliged to give my take on it. First of all, if you believe God "set it all up" this way then you must acknowledge that God also made gay people---- and do NOT trot out that tired old canard about gays "choosing" that lifestyle! You'd have to be blind AND stupid to think that roughly ten percent of the population throughout history, in all cultures and all races, AND throughout the animal kingdom, all decided one day to choose same sex love so they could be beaten and tortured and killed just for some fleeting sexual gratification. Get effing real.

But this is about gay marriage. It's about the "institution" of marriage. Marriage is older than Christianity, and it's universal, across all cultures and lands in one form or another---- and THAT is the real point: Marriage takes many forms and has evolved over time. Marriage in European cultures wasn't even performed by priests and in churches on a regular basis until around the 13th century! It was a civil contract that was far more about property rights and lineage than about "being in love" so with the relatively recent co-opting by Christian churches, we see another example of people now trying to convince everyone that the Christian church invented marriage and they have the exclusive rights to it and that everyone must do it according to their interpretation.

I say to you people who insist on excluding others and insist on discriminating based on your own twisted views: GO DO YOU KNOW WHAT TO YOURSELF!!!!

I don't give a damn what your Bible says and YOU have no right nor authority to decide out of hand that my marriage to my husband (30 years together come this October) is "less than" or not even valid, and should not be valid. YOU are nobody to me and YOU have no right to say that I don't or shouldn't have the right to marry the person I love (We already ARE married, and I hope that grates on your nerves!).

Hee hee hee, sorry, just wanted to give my old fashioned opinion, hee hee....... No skn off my teeth, hee hee.

Yeah, right.

If one wants to think that being old fashion is cool and somehow more reasonable than just using reasoning and logic for the advancement of mankind and all it consist of ...just remember it was 'old fashion' thinking that put animals in circuses and road zoo's and that has allowed the killing of wild life for sport for decades/centuries. That's what being old fashion has done for our world...

As a reminder, it's that 'old fashion' idea [s]/concepts that brougt wild animals to circuses and road side zoo's just to mention a couple of old fashion views that aren't very logical for todays world ,which facts and laws have helped to change..no thanks to old fashion thinking.

and...

if 'god' thinks gay marriage is a sin then i think he is wrong...sorry to say but that is a pretty hateful way to lead the human race.

This is 21st Century, for Christ's sake. I truly believe that if Christ lived today, he would hang out with LGBTI people, and speak up for their rights. Equal marriage now!
