Heather Purser, a member of the Suquamish tribe, whose reservation sits in Washington State, came out to her family at the age of 16, but has never felt completely accepted by her people.

Nice post Cal. DOMA=complete violation of human rights. I thought the below excerpt from article summed it up for me. Religion practiced quietly is fine. But it's not. People puke it all over people all the time. Except Buddhists, but that's not a religion. The God thing.....Sorry, not the most elequent here.

"Indigenous communities really resist the colonising impulse to sharply bifurcate people into only two groups and to deny the importance of two-spirit people who were often the medicine men that carried tribal traditions and customs down the ages. In fact, homophobic oppression is viewed as an invasion or assault on traditional cultures," Ross said.

"The Christianisation of [indigenous] communities has led to an embrace of the Christian attitudes of racism, homophobia and sexism," Ross, who has worked with SisterSong to amplify the collective voice of indigenous women for over three decades, told IPS

Gods-damned homophobia is one of my reasons for rejecting Christianity and Islam. I consider the Disease of Marriage Act a filthy piece of Klinton scheiss. I hope the Native tribes go back to their own native spirituality; the 'god of the white man' has been less than supportive for them. Homophobia should be dæmonised and homophobic violence should be prosecuted as a capital felony.

Read The Zuni Man Woman...provides information on one individual who was respected in both DC and in Zuni Pueblo, and offers insight as to how the change came about from honoring each individual by having traditional places for them in spiritual ceremony, social contexts, work, etc to the "POST CHRISTIAN" invasion of negative and artificial judgements, taunts, aversions "sin"....
