I hope that this will help. The world needs more sustainable transport - walking, cycling, public transport and electric vehicles powered by appropriate renewable energy.

The first thing to go to accomplish this is human want & greed for
expediency & I want it now!!
When humans learn once again to move slower & speed is not everything
then & only then will we accept life as the snails do.........I'll get there eventually!!

Plant & protect Danny's trees for life.

We have 5% more moisture in our atmosphere than we did 50 years ago. We have already exceeded the 350ppm carbon tipping point. We are now at 390ppm and the percentages are climbing.. It will take hard work and a concerted all out world effort to enact any sort of a positive change.

Thanks Cal and to all protesters. Clean energy is not the only solution. Reducing the demand for energy by we humans can be a helpful factor.
There are many paths to some resolution. Each one of us can help.

This is a very consequential initiative because there are still many doubters and people unwilling to make a change (esp. the powerful, including the governments and oil/gas/coal companies), so it is good that the public has spoken out for the sake of a better tomorrow.

jorge v.......It is a very much needed move on the part of humanity
to stop immediately any further using up what in Mother Natures
resources. We've about cleaned it all out & still man want to tear
up the North Pole region to see what there to destroy.
Also, the Saudi's will fight tooth & nail to stop all oil production
that they control. They will agree only when the world is on the
verge of climatic collaspe........By then it will be all to late.

Plant & protect Danny's trees for life.
Trees are the lungs of the earth.

How would the human population ween themselves from
all the big & little luxuries we've become so very attached
to.
Just think for a moment of not having toast, mail delivered
by horseback or buggy or going back to making everything
we eat at home........No more manufactured slop we've
come to believe is food.
I personally would give up everything to live in a world where
everyone knows everyone else, makes all ones food etc etc.
And, I'd gladly give up my one prize possession......My computer
to live in a village with no cars, planes or trains.
People living before the 1860's really had no idea of how good
they had it.

Plant & protect Danny's trees for life.
Trees are the lungs of the earth.

What we need is to totally reject Harper's lie of friendly terorist free safe oil.No carbon based fuel is safe or friendly at this point Canada is sending a disgusting sludge filled lie to the rest of the planet. When more of us desperately try to get the green movement happening a whimp like obama and corporate best bud like harper keep us in a past with no future.

Too many of the cleaner, greener alternatives are prohibitively expensive at the moment for the ordinary person to adopt. Roll on the day when the greener option is more widely affordable.

It is great that people's hearts are in the right places but sadly they are all missing the point. all the demonstrating and writing comments such as are to be found on boards such as these achieve nothing and are all 'hot air' as long as people continue to kid themselves that they can continue with their own lifestyles essentially unchanged and still do something to help the fate of our planet, and by extension, our species.
For ourselves, the time for prevention has now passed and the time for adaptation is now urgent.
For future generations, it is important that we do reduce emissions in order that the planet has an opportunity to heal in the future but this, I fear, will be enforced upon us by nature, that same healing process.
The economic crisis will, within 20 years, leave precious few of us able to produce any emissions anyhow. We are arrogant enough to think that we are beyond the reach of nature. We, and everything we do, is all part of nature. Long in to future, when this period of history is summarized, it will be easier to see the inter-connectedness of events and conditions and it will be seen that planetary adjustments were being made by Gaia (Earth) herself, albeit through us.
Now, if you are of a mind to 'go with the flow' of this change and you are serious about making a difference, then get rid of your car/s,
reduce ALL use of power in your home to the bare minimum,
get rid of all of your credit cards,
sell your home and move to one that is honestly ONLY big enough for your family size,
DO NOT fly anywhere,
Change to a vegan diet (animal produce is one of the biggest greenhouse gas contributors)
Have no more children

and so on. Stop talking and start doing.

One of the biggest things to do is end the 100 years humans have been using gasoline for cars. The 2012 car uses the same fuel as the 1912 model T. Get Big Oil out of the mega-billion dollar driving seat.
Regarding electricity I LOVE wind turbines. What a blast from the future.

Finally.....The reproduction/cloning of the human species
needs to STOP in its' tracks.
Mother Hubbards cupboard is damned near dry.......We've
chewed up & spit out all of what nature has stored up for
millions of years in just a matter of a few hundred.

No animal on this earth could or would have left behind
the amount of destruction our species has done.just
because of our numbers of seven billion people.

There oughtta be a law & China finally set a law
in place on how many children one can have.
When will the rest of the world follow suit?????

Plant & protect Danny's trees for life.
Trees are the lungs of the earth.

Noted, thanks Cal! I went to the one in San Diego. There were more than 350 people there (2 yrs before they had done one and there were 30 people there. Great to know people are massing for some action!) We did a march through Balboa Park with banners and chanting, then massed on a lawn, sang some of those pertinent folk songs, like this Land Is Your Land, and Put Up a Parking Lot, and then had several speakers, politicians and activists. We even got local news coverage! We got positive feedback from the people we passed, except for one guy, who was rather amusing...in his loud Trans Am with a sign on the back that said something like "Fossil fuels are good for the environment because the CO2 feeds the trees." He'd rev his engine at us. We pretty much ignored him (besides laughing) and felt good that he was the only one! It was great to see all the pics of the rallies all over the world

Thank you Sherri.........The village is yet to be Sherri after
all the destruction is done & over with. There will be small
pockets of humans who may survive it all. Hopefully those
humans will look back & take a long hard look at what we've
done.
Candles & a supply of sticks is all we need to start all over again
in the right direction. And there will be no need for nuclear power
plants anywhere.

Hmmm.....The new Steven Spielberg TV show Terra Nova.....the Earth depicted in the pilot is on the verge of environmental collapse....the skies are brown....the sun and moon can't be seen, people wear face respirators...there is a 2child limit. You get the picture. When i see people not making the smallest of changes.....using reusable shopping bags for any shopping(not just food),using reusable water bottles, coffee mugs and buying goods made out of recycled paper and other recyclable materials.....I wonder about our planets' future.I see more people ,a majority if you will, not making even the simplest of changes.how will they motivate themselves to make big changes such as dumping their gas guzzling, highly polluting SUVS'???Makes me wonder if the choice to not do everything we can as individuals to help is a form of selfishness?

Yes, get this carbon tax going real strong in Australia so we can effectively close down all those businesses that are producing so much carbon. Who cares if the employees are left without an income for their families. No Pain, NO gain. Tell them to go find a job and shut up. Yes, and those countries which have volcanoes that are spueing out millions of tons of carbon, tax them real hard too. Who cares if their inhabitants are taxed beyond where they can exist. Their country produces the carbon so tax them heavily. Since China has a large population, give them the jobs that have been taken away from the grizzling Aussies who have lost their jobs and anyone else who complains. Just try taxing China. They have the money now and if you try being harsh with them, they will give you the one finger salute. Try bringing political pressure on them and finish up creating a war, they'll be okay as there is well over a billion of them. They have plenty of soldiers to fight with. Yeah, a war would get rid of a lot of them too. That would help to bring the population down closer to a more sustainable level.

It is important that we get the population down to a sustainable amount so it doesn't matter if we have some collateral damage with a billion or two dying from starvation. That will be good for the world as there will be less carbon produced in providing food. I wont have to worry as I have already passed that three score years and ten. I have had my life producing my little share of carbon that affects the world. At last we did our bit in providing that hairs breadth compared to a kilometre that us stupid Australians keep producing. At last we will be returning to the dark ages when there was very little carbon produced. They had very little industry then so why not go back to that time. Throw out all the technology and reduce our power needs to a bare minimum so that all our needs will be very small. Oh, by the way, make sure that tax hits all those b.....ds who are making a killing out of the global warming thing too. They have cooked up such a mess in the world so they should not be allowed to get off scott free either. Too bad about all those kids who are going to die from hunger, serves them right that their folks have lost their good paying jobs which just badly polluted the world. We are better off without them. WHAT? You want to starve my kids and grand kids too? Come off it!
