It would seem the White House's petition website is just for show and really doesn't mean much. The one petition that gained more signatures than any other and indeed may have gained as many as all other petitions on the site combined was the legalize marijuana petition. Why spend money on going after real criminals when you can waste taxpayer money on going after victimless crime that is actually LEGAL under State law.

Disappointing. And so irrational - I can legally be given a prescription for serious narcotic medication by my doctor. But he can't prescribe marijuana, which by comparison is an astonishingly mild drug.

Remember, the war on drugs, (mostly marijuna) is a trillion dollar a year business. I personally don't think Obama cares one way or another, but he is being bombarded by the establishment that already exisits. I don't agree with this at all. I think it's terrible, and I don't even smoke it. But, I do know about it's benifits.

But, keep this in mind. Do you think ANY republican would go along with this? NOT. They don't even want to help create jobs or help the 98% of US citiznens. So, even if you aren't 100% for Obama (and I'm not), who else do you have in mind for this job? Perry, Bachman, or some other radical? Even Mitt.....none would EVER change this law.......but would destroy the US as we have known it.

They need to feed the private sectors prisons. A guard in one of the prisons tells a story of a young man, the tender age of 17, who was caught with a roach, winds up in prison, gets two years, winds up in a fight with another prisoner trying to do something this young man wanted no part of and this young man winds up getting 5 more years.

The only people who are interested in keeping marijuana illegal are the drug dealers, because it helds their profit high. For the society there is no difference wheter people are killed or ill by legal or illegal drugs. The difference for society is the money the drug addicts need. You could save a lot of people from being robbed, beaten, prostituted, just by legalizing it. And you would take a lot of money away from drug barons, if you can grow your drugs at home or by them just like you do with alcohol. I just wonder, whether politicians are blind to see this or payed to be blind.

Free Hemp (marijuana) and free the World...With all the obvious attributes associated to this NATURAL wonder like paper, fabric, fuel, food etc...and the many medicinal qualities, physical,mental and spiritual (consciousness)...it is not hard to see why puppets like Obama (Bush),Harper and their programmers still resist the obvious. They do not want us to be free and conscious beings behaving in a sharing,peaceful manner.
I'd rather see our so called leaders partake in peaceful activities (smoking peace pipe) instead of promoting war...and the destruction of our planet.

This also happened right before the Prohibition laws were repealed.

Maybe this is actually going to be a good thing, because of the perfect storm that is brewing.

Cities, states and the federal government are all going broke, and desperately NEED MONEY, exactly like during the Prohibition era.

Crime was rampant and tons of people were going to jail for basically doing nothing harmful to others (drinking alcohol then, smoking weed now) The US has more people in prison than any other civilized country on Earth, per capita, including Russia and China.

People got tired of being told what to do by politicians who verbally supported Prohibition to get votes, but then turned around and went to parties where they EXPECTED to be served booze, as a normal part of what they did.

If marijuana were made legal, it would boost revenues for government, just as alcohol did during the time after it was legalized. All by itself, it generated 20% of total revenue coming in during that time. That is huge during the Depression days, as it would be now.

Where are our priorities?

Schools used to 80% of funding and jails used to get 20% of total revenue collected.

Now, it is reversed. Jails get 80% of tax revenues collected, and schools only get 20% and that is dropping.


We are raising people to be professional criminals by sending them to jail for YEARS.. There, they get taught lessons in how to be a good homosexual, how to commit crimes and get away with it, how to never succeed in life, how to never contribute to society, how to harm others, how to commit lots of OTHER types of crimes, how to network with other criminals for greater effect, and much more..

We spend $50,000 per year, per prisoner on this school....

Good luck if you want to some positive effects from this school.

These people will NEVER PAY TAXES, NEVER GET A JOB, and they will MOVE INTO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN THEY GET OUT OF JAIL, as most of them do.

Meanwhile, less and less people can afford school or college, because more and more money is being diverted to law enforcement to stick people in a box with bars on it, for smoking weed and getting stoned.

That makes a lot of sense.. keep voting for people who want this... Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, with worse and worse results

Like any other federal program, our country has a long history in abusing the system. Obama has to get this right, or millions are literally going to suffer. Christie in NJ is in favor of legalizing marijuana, but has not implemented it because of the vague federal regulations on its distribution.
I wish this administration would get something right.

I've never been a smoker, cigs or pot. My friends & Family have always thought of me as a square. I'm also someone who stays clear of legal drugs and that has served me well. But the pressure of these last years makes me want to try two things, they're both natural not from some chemical, with boo-coo side effects, that the drug companies PUSH!

Magic mushrooms and Cannabis which originated in Asia & was smoked by many Americans before it became illegal &, it grew wild, I am told, along train rails. It was used to border American crops. It grows fast, makes clothing, paper products, oils for the skin, and has proven to be very useful for medical problems, like loss of appetite, Glaucoma, and in recent research there's evidence that those who have smoked pot over the years are less likely to get certain cancers, like brain tumors, etc.,

If I go to a doctor which I have not done in 26 happy years, expressing some anx or sleep problems they will prescribe some chemical. I would much prefer some natural growing substance to the drug companies alternatives. My choice of the natural world has served me and my family well.

I am pointing these comments out below because they touched on the pulse of what's happening today due to the lack of freedom to choose what one does with their body. Even natural supplements are on the chopping block. Wonder why? Why has a doctor, drug firm or even a health insurer have the right to decide what's in my best interest?

On the other side of this lop sided coin. Chemical, oil, gas, nuclear, drug companies get away with POLLUTING our bodies! The air, land, water we need to live has been made foul. So much for our health! Even a fool recognizes this is a hypocritical issue designed to control not protect someone.

When campaigning in 2008, Obama specifically said he would not 'waste Justice Dept. resources' subverting State Law, and after elected President Obama's attorney General confirmed the very same thing, especially in response to the question of state marijuana legislation.

Obama lied. Period.
