Around 10,000 women marched through central Cairo demanding Egypt's ruling military step down Tuesday in an unprecedented show of outrage over soldiers who dragged women by the hair and stomped on them, and stripped one half-naked in the street

Woman will turn the tides of injustice and hopefully bring forth the many changes the middle east so badly needs, especially equality and hopefully...a stable government run by...a woman :-)

It sounds like these women have them scared! Good for them!!! I hope the men who dragged the half naked woman get what is coming to them! In America that would be an outrage, but in Egypt even worse and I am so happy these women are marching and speaking out!!! The world is changing for the better slowly! At one time no one would have spoken out.

Why do so many Middle Eastern men act like savages against women? Where or from whom do they learn this incredible hate towards their opposite sex? Could it be an inferiority complex regarding the size of their dicks or their brains? I would love to see an article in the Times magazine titled, "What evil things the Men of this World have committed against the Women of same World in 2012, a simple statistic"? It could serve as a shameful eyeopener. They do these horrible deeds to their own wives, sisters and to the friends, and relations of complete strangers. I somehow don't think that any of our revered Gods approve. Barbarism has to end! Cavemen back to the caves, come back when you are enlightened.

Easier to get rid of a single dictator than of the dictating male half of society.

So the military wants a guarantee that they will not be prosecuted or they won't hand over power? Well, they should stop doing illegal and barbaric things to the people they are supposed to protect!

Well done, ladies! Keep it up, and kudos also to the men there who really *are* honorable and protect the women the way they *should* be protected and respected!

Women unite!!!! I have experienced my own bouts with sexism here in the US, but, compared to some nations I have travelled through, including Morocco, areas of India, Latin American countries, Thailand and China, I must say the differences are dismaying. I have read many memoirs of girls and women who escaped from pervasive oppression, unreasonable "laws", etc where men dominated all aspects of their lives, sexually, spiritually, physically, emotionally. and it was a filthy, terrifying life they lived, where they had been brainwashed with many lies and misconceptions, propaganda. We must allow freedom to all human beings and animals, as long as hey are not committing crimes. Certain religious supremacist notions cause more suffering to sentient beings than any other contributor to the human thought processes.

The article states: "Many accused the military of intentionally targeting women to scare them and their male relatives from joining protests against the generals. Previously, the military has implied women who joined protests were of loose morals. In March, soldiers subjected detained female protesters to humiliating tests to determine if they were virgins.

They are trying to break women's spirits, starting with the virginity tests. They want to break their dignity so that they don't go out and protest," Maha Abdel-Nasser, an engineer who joined the march, said."

That little exercise in stupidity is a perfect example of why Egypt needs women in government! Let's face it, the men have done a terrible job of leading...

Military GOVT is not acceptable to the people of Egypt because their job is to protect the boarders of the country and not to rule like a dictator for which the Egyptian people have given lot of sacrifice they want democracy so let the process of election be completed as earliest as possible and hand over the GOVt and Military the brutal action against women is not acceptable

My heartfelt solidarity with the brave women of Egypt - and the men that protected them as they marched. I hope the great movement for change all over the world will bear such fruit as has never been seen before, true equality and justice for all people.

Noted, thanks Cal. As several commentators have said, women have been abused for many thousands of years, in more ways that can be simply written. In most parts of the world this is so. We females have Allowed this abuse because we followed the dictators/leaders who rule by fear (with many possibilities). We forgot or put aside, our true worth in human cultures and societies, allowing ourselves to be belittled and to Believe the dictators who tell us these untruths. We females have been held hostage because of our many worthy abilities and desires to fit into with leaders/groups/cultures/social structures. Ewoud K.'s brief comment condenses and is worth thinking about. Some enlightenment may be found in Discovery News - 12-21-11, by Eric Niller, "How Dictators Keep Control etc.,. Many other factors (social/leader) contribute to female enslavement as well as male. Not all are strictly gender related. Our female reactions of being followers, whether fashions, local politics (rumors of not fitting in), not to be taken seriously airheads, only good for lust of, breeding (think cattle or other sellers marketable item), with occasional intellectual conversation & mental abilites, have dangerously compromised the World, not just the mid-east. Support females with intelligence, courage, strength, longterm vison, wisdom, with specialties of Nurture and Care mixed in with awareness of the whole earth's needs, not just humans. Support males that also have those qualities. They, female and male will be the best leaders of the human species and a positive future for this earth, our home.

The dumb ass military better get off the pot now, they have really, really pissed off the women. If I were in the military I think I would burn my uniform and get the hell out of Dodge because your shit will now be dust in the wind. Dumb asses, they don't know the women rule when they come together and want to. All the armor in the world won't make any difference, dumb asses.

mothers of the world: We can stop the hate cycle against women, stop raising you boys to judge an punish girls, you might been raised that way but is wrong. All our children, no matter their gender are human beings with the same rights and needs. We have to stop this misinterpretation of religion or tradition that allows men to oppress and abuse women, NOW!
