A newfound optimism has infected much of Burma. The government has relaxed controls and might even make room for pro-democracy advocate and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi in the cabinet after this Sunday's by-elections

Hate to be cynical, but I'm pretty sure this is some sort of PR hype.

Yeah Sue, Ditto.

But if it is true, then the words "Good News" is such an understatement...I would personally be doing cartwheels!!!

Aung San Suu kyi is a very brave and courageous lady who has fought for Burmese democracy foe many years and has suffered greatly for doing so.If this news proves to be true then I will rejoice in it.However the Generals in power have proven in the past that they cannot be trusted to deliver on their promises.I fear it's a wait and see situation.

As Aung San herself said -on a scale of 1 to 10 we are trying to reach ONE. Any step forward is terrific.

Any time she'd like to be the British Prime Minister we'd welcome her with open arms.

A good and devoted woman I hope she geta all she wants as her country will prosper. Army led countries always are at war against the people.

From the Vancouver Sun newspaper 02 April 2012
"Pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Monday hailed a "new era" for Myanmar and called for political unity after her party swept to victory in elections seen as a test of budding reforms.

The Nobel peace laureate won her first seat in parliament, state media confirmed, saying that her National League for Democracy (NLD) party secured 40 of the 44 seats it contested, according to partial official results."

The next general elections come in 2015. It will be interesting to see what happens between now and then. I pray Myanmar will be blessed finally with peace and prosperity.
