Romney's Message: Obama's Not a Real American

Forget Ted Nugent's violent rhetoric; the GOP candidate has been mainstreaming the Obama-ain't-one-of-us meme for months.

I am not a fan of Nugent by any stretch of the imagination. What I do give Romney credit for is not going (at this point) for Obama's jugular vein. When he becomes the official candidate, let's see what happens.

The dishonest nature of a politician that will accept the support of people that say what he is too afraid to say himself. Unless he stands up and says that he disagrees with the Nugents then he tacitly agrees with them.

As my kids would say "what a douche".

obama is unfit for the job and should be replaced. i don't agree with ted's methods but i agree obama needs to go.
if obama and his thugs hadn't played dirty and cheated clinton would have won. the race card was the biggest reason "if you don't vote for obama you're a racists". that's already started with this election. hopefully this itme people won't fall for it.
romney in 2012. obama go home.

Romney's playing on people's fear of "The Other".

Ted Nugent is a disgusting scumbag-no talent and constantly spewing hate filled violent garbage.

"This week, during an interview with Diane Sawyer of ABC News, Romney repeated his assertion that Obama "doesn't understand" America's economy. This has become a catchphrase that Romney often doesn't bother to explain.

Romney doesn't call Obama a commie. He doesn't question his birthplace. He doesn't say the president is a criminal. He doesn't suggest he's Muslim-y. He doesn't declare that Obama hates America or harbors anti-American views. But Romney has welcomed the backing of those who make these types of claims, and he has even courted these over-the-top Obama foes (as he did with Nugent, after the gun-lovin', aging rocker had violently threatened Obama and Hillary Clinton). He legitimizes and exploits those who engage in Obama hate-mongering and who debase the political discourse Romney claims to care about. More important, with his own words, Romney has attempted to reinforce the notion that Obama is not truly part of the nation he leads. He has mainstreamed the Obama-ain't-really-American meme of the right. And that is hardly civil."
Of course, it is ROMNEY who is totally out-of-touch with America and Americans.
Nobody but ROMNEY would, WHILE campaigning for the Presidency, be building himself a luxurious Mega-Mansion on the Pacific Coast -- with an ELEVATOR FOR FOUR CARS inside. How many of us live in a home with an elevator for even ONE car?!?!
Then, there was the time Romney "jokingly" offered a BET of $10,000 -- enough to help out a family whose home is being foreclosed on, or someone who has crushing student debt, or parents working two or three part-time jobs to put food on the table? Just a casual BET, it means NOTHING to Richie Rich Romney???
And, of course, there is Spoiled Rich Kid Romney's TOTAL INSENSITIVITY to pets, his own families' or other peoples', like Companion Animals mean absolutely NOTHING to him -- we have seen not one, but MANY instances of this, over and over again.

Romney is a totally plastic person -- I get the CREEPS when I look into his dead, empty eyes. No feeling there.

He is just repeating and repeating endlessly, the Repukelican Talking Points fed to him by his trainers. Suddenly, flip-flop, he's all for Contraceptive Rights. Yeah sure..... when he realizes that even formerly-Republican-voting women are leaving the fold in droves.......

Teresa Cowley (274)

Hasn't Romney ever heard the saying, "You're known by the company you keep"? As someone already mentioned, Romney is not real, but plastic, he is not an American, but exploits those who are. He has a lot of nerve criticizing anyone! And, maybe worst of all, he's so out-of-touch he's not aware just how "out there" he is!

Hummm....McCain the insane and his side kick of crazy and lazy $arah, hooked in tight with the far right and it cost him the election in 08. Mitt is suppose to be a smart business savvy person but this all goes to show he really doesn't think he can win if he continues to pander to those who's track record have produced nothing but losers in Fed. elections since the GOP made Jesus Christ their mascott for dollars and corporate wars.
It took the Supreme court to appoint Dubya.. and the Diebold rigged voting machines to keep him as president from 2000-2008. Those he panderd to didn't get him to the WHite House either.

Never thought we'd see the day when Corporate Jesus whoring would be so popular during about Not Real Americans ..their group wins that hands down!

Hang with the far rigth extremist might get ya jesus dollars but little perhaps the cash flow, is what MItt enjoys, that isn't from his own pockets.....but.....who really knows what caused him to go so totally 'stupid' during this campaign....only thing clear is that he did and that he continues showing just how stupid he can be during an election. Perhaps it's all just more of the Karl Rove playbook to keep folks divided even within their own ranks ?

The GOP/Tea Party do not worry about truth or fairness, or really helping America. Their concern is only defeating Obama. Romney plays to the more conservative right-wing loons to get elected. Who knows what he really believes.

Romney is a real black American when he sings "Who Let the Dogs Out", a real southern American when he eats grits, and a real gun-toting a-hole when he is "shooting varmints" for the NRA.

Nugent is either psychotic or incredibly dumbed down (with violent tendencies) and unable to think.

Romney's a big-time jerk. Can't believe a thing he says as is all over the place on every issue (except defending the 1% of which he is one) depending upon whom he's talking to. Let's do him a favor and let him retire into total obscurity in 2013 at one of his 4 or 5 homes he owns or visit his money in the Cayman Islands or the Swiss Alps. Bon Voyage, Willard, we won't miss you.

Why must people always think that they are being personally targeted when Care2 has a problem?

Try to remember that it's not always about you.

Here's the true story:

I'm told by Care2 @Twitter that Care2 changed their DNS yesterday. They suggested clearing the cache or doing a Ctrl-refresh (hold down the Ctrl key and press F5 or the refresh icon next to your browser address bar) but neither of those things works for me.
I've tried a DNS flush also, but no luck.

I am kind of logged in, because I can click on 'my sharebook' or 'my page' and I go there, but I can't even write a Share to let people know what's happening. Groups are clearly affected, no posts in any of my groups for over 24 hours, no new news at C2NN either.
I can edit my page though, so I think I'll do an update there.

They always do this stuff at weekends, so it's hard to contact any of the techs or Care2 Support.

Guess it will have to wait until Monday - it may come right before then. Just be patient, and don't take it personally. ;-)

None of the Repug/Tea Bagged will cross Nugent, he does sit on the Board of Directors for the NRA,Nut-cases Run Amok. Plus Crazy Teddy can say the things the candidates and pundits only wish they could, they have to use coded dog whistles Nugent can use megaphone and do everything but directly call for the assassination of The President of the United States of America.
And I am so sick and tired of the f'ing lie misdirection that being a Business man, aka a Vulture Capitalist, is a qualification for President or any other elected office involved with running a Nation/Government; you know "Governing for the Common Good of All Constituents" what the Repug/Tea Bagged have not done since Obama was elected President. They have passed or attempted to pass Christian Sharia into US law both State and Federal. The Romney/Ryan/Norquist/Repug/Tea Bagged economic/business plan for the USA is exactly the same 'Damn the people all profits to the Rich' that Romney used to make his Hundreds of Millions at Bain. A government, particularly the US government and State governments has obligations to serve the 'common good' and ensure and protect the life, liberty, pursuit of happiness and enfranchisement of all the Citizens of the USA, none of which are Corporations, for the betterment of the whole without bankrupting the People, all of the People, and the Nation, this is not a business model nor is it the Governing model ascribed to by the Repug/Tea Bagged. The Repug model moves all of the wealth of the Government and the economy up never down. The last decades have shown EVERY Repug elected to office has increased the size and cost of government, the DEBT the DEFICIT and reduced the income of the government to the benefit of only the top 1-2% of Americans leading to several recessions the worst of which America and Obama have struggled to climb out of DESPITE the total OBSTRUCTIONISM of the Repug/Tea Bagged. The Income gains by Corporation's and the upper 1-2% have increased by several hundred percent while the income for the Other 98-99% has been a stagnant flat line.
Free Market Capitalism is not now, never has been and hopefully never will be a form of Government, it is the means by which individuals accrue wealth and power in an unbridled orgy of Greed, Avarice and total disregard of their fellow citizens.

The GOP and all it's followers claim that they are the real Americans, yet they show total disrespect for their own President; they don't believe in Freedom of religion (only Christians are real Americans?); they want small government, yet their leaders want to lead this government and have the only vote that counts.... Hypocrisy???

Romney is an imbecile, as has been repeatedly demonstrated by his disingenuous statements and his piss poor attempts at trying to sound like he's "just like" the rest of us; he is absolutely not, with both him and his wife demonstrating their Marie Antoinette-like ignorance of those that are not ubber-rich.

As far as Ted Nugent is concerned, I only like 2 things about him;
1. his stance against Peta
2. his music.

Outside of that, I have no use for the man.

Henriette; when you get back on; I came up against a blank page 2 day. In November last year I went thru so much as many of us. who is behind it really? It is election season. How much will they pay to control the air waves.?

Someone here said that; Karl Roves playbook. If you know and remember all the dirty dealings during the Bush Years and the lives he/they ruined and how they were just above the law. Newt was traveling around with this group. I believe in my heart they are all in a movie plying their rolls. I saw in their primaries how dishonest they are. These are the george bush years replicas all over again. Everything dishonest, lying and hateful.
when Romney is caught lying from the door; why would anyone fall for anything this man says period.
All this talk of erase and rewrite what you will say going forward is assinine.

I did not vote for Obama in the last Presidential election, but if the election was today, I would vote for him. It is Romney who does not understand the economy or is just not telling the truth. The fact is that we were in a Great Recession which began before Obama was President. Economists said that it was the worse recession since the Great Depression. They also said that some action had to be taken or we would go into a Depression. They also said that even if something was done, it would take a very, very long time until our economy would be good again. Since March 2011 we have been gaining jobs in the private sector. Before then we had been losing an enormous number of jobs month after month. Unfortunately we had still be losing jobs in the public sector but the private sector had been doing pretty good. Romney also does not understand America in general. Most Americans don't make a million dollars or more a year like he does.

Yes, it's all a big conspiracy (I direct this to Zen because she's a big girl and sane). It's called 'changing the DNS (Domain Name Server). Google it. Oops, Google is a conspiracy I forgot, How mundane to realize it's actually a dry, unexciting, unprovocative thing such as a technical issue. Can't make YouTube vids about that! lol

As far as Nugent, he has been whacked out for a loooong time. Started out as a good lead player and some good rock songs. That's it. Deserves the NRA and vice-versa.

Not a True American? The child of a white single mother whose black African father deserted them both. Who grows up to become a lawyer, a Senator and then the President of the United States. What more of the American Dream is this? Where at one time only little WHITE boys had that aspiration.Who is out of touch here? Typical American shoot from the hip thinking. The problem is that Americans are not pragmatic thinkers. (Go look it up). You want to revert to the 19th cnetury thinking, no rights for women, blacks, gays, pro-choice, everything against women and democracy. This whole Obama is not a real American is bogus. When the dumbass Republicans can't think of anything constructive or intelligent they go on this whole Obama is not a real American. Is he a fake one? Give it a damn rest. No wonder the rest of the world can't stand Americans. No wonder certain groups want to blow your asses to smitherines. Ted Nugent pooped his pants to avoid the draft, but he has no problem sending you kid to war. He is also a child molester. Most recently he was investigated for death threats he made towards our presidentand other Democrats. He just received two years probation for poaching a black bear in Alaska and selling the organs (which happens to be very illegal) Why that loser isn't in prison is beyond me. A couple of Romney's accusations actually do seem to stick:

Obama's life may be a testament to differences between the U.S. and nearly the entire rest of the world, but his administration's foreign policy and his behaviour when traveling abroad do not reflect that. His strategy to raise the U.S.'s standing in international diplomacy centers around acting as an equal partner to any other country in the industrialized world, neither dictating terms nor ignoring protests as only the U.S. can. While this seems appropriate in one's daily life, the fact is that such behaviour does not reflect real power-relations. Separating negotiations and their results from reality leads to broken promises, agreements which don't last, and very unstable alliances. The "reset" with Russia in which the administration dealt with Russia as though it were still a superpower, for example, not only failed, but cost the U.S. its Eastern European allies' trust. His behaviour on his trip to Japan, bowing deeply, is the usual symbol of this aspect of his administration. The fact is that American exceptionalism isn't just arrogance: While there is certainly an element of that, there is also a consensus throughout much of the world outside the U.S. that the results of American culture are simply better than those of most other nations. Obama's failure to act in accordance with that has thrown allies off-balance and convinced enemies that they have an opportunity.

As for understanding the U.S. economy, he really doesn't, and the author of the article tries to dodge that issue. That isn't the criticism: Nobody understands the U.S. economy well enough to try to run it. The criticism is that his administration acts as though it does. He talked about investment all the time, but investment through government, not through private industry. Traditionally in the U.S. economy, it is, as Romney put it, the citizenry that pioneers and creates, not the government. Under Obama's administration, the executive branch's regulatory bodies are trying to run the economy, decide where investments go, and pretending to really know what they are doing.

As for threats made against a president, perhaps one of the far more explicit threats against the president should be investigated? Maybe the one about bombing the White House, or the explicit written statement of intent to shoot him, the pictures with the bullet-hole in his forehead, the statements of intent to hang or decapitate him, the burning of effigies, the bumper-stickers with the nooses, or the "wanted: dead or alive" posters"?

Lynn Squance, thank you for the green star, but I want to state that I am not a "progressive" which is usually used as a name for a liberal. I am a moderate. However, in general Obama has tried to be practical and not gone all the way to the far left and the Republicans have now gone all the way to the far "right". I strongly feel that the Republicans extreme far "right" way of doing things can destroy our economy.

As outsiders, it is amazing that some on this thread say that Obama is a failure. Yes, undoubtedly the economy is flat and people are struggling except the 1% but how can you deny that ALL the financial troubles were caused by the greedy 1%ers who owned the banks and did their utmost to take people for a ride. However, Obama has tried to introduce some semblance of civilisation like medical care for all and tried to encourage greener sources of power. However the psycho money men who think the rest of us are just their slaves want nothing but destruction of the environment with oil and coal Anyone who advocates the current type of Republicanism started by Ronald Reagan needs their head looking at.

Progressive isn't exactly a political party. Before 1980, any new president became Progressive. Right or left, we used to be united in that most decisions were born out of for and by the people. No one in their right mind doesn't want to return to those days. The turning point in our country's stability was when Reagan took corporate priority from Consumer to shareholder. Wages went south to please the shareholder and CEO pay went sky high because they could. What a mess.

We need to start making lots of noise about Romney's election fraud in Massachusetts in 2010. He registered using his son's UNFINISHED basement as his home address (despite actually living in a CA mansion) and voted in the special election after Ted Kennedy died. That's out and out fraud, but he's gotten away with it. WHY?

As many as 25% of American voters will not vote for a Mormon candidate of any party. Compounding the "otherness" of his religion, Romney persists in making a seemingly endless string of verbal gaffs highlighting his status as a born-with-a-silver-spoon Richie Rich billionaire, an elite member of the 1% of the 1%. His only strategy to make Americans see him as "one of them" is to paint his opponent as the most "other" of the two of them. It won't work, however, because Romney simply has no people skills. He not only cannot articulate a clear vision of his agenda; he's not even particularly skillful in his attacks on the President. I don't understand the heated rhetoric or the seemingly endless arguing over the election. We all know the end result. Obama is going to win because there are no meaningful alternatives. Romney certainly isn't an alternative. The two party system doesn't allow for real alternatives. I have voted Democrat every single election since I was old enough to vote(some decades ago), but if Jill Stein gets the Green nomination, I'm voting Green Party. It changes nothing. Obama is going to win. Say what you will, but there is no stopping it. Nonetheless, I refuse to play the two party system anymore: it's a rigged roulette wheel where the house always wins and the people are the ones who lose. Obama's going to win. If our government had any decency about it, then they would just go ahead and accept the inevitable and cancel the elections...that way we all wouldn't have to waste our gas and our time getting to the polls. Folks, the reality is that we can all debate who would be better than Obama, but we already know who would be worse: Romney.

Behold the Un-American, it likes to wrap itself in the red white and blue and pretends to be democratic. But don't be fooled, it only wants a one party system. It righteously proclaims freedom, but only for literalist White male Christians, while stabbing everyone else in the back with a big old grin on it's stupid glassy eyed face. It is a dangerous creature and it's favorite haunts are good ol' boy NRA meetings, scripted political rallies and areas that are in the shadows of Big Money. The best way to repel this vile and distasteful creature is to shine a bright light of reason and throw facts at it. It will start to cringe and run away or sometimes try to stand it's ground with falsehoods. Beware! It is is infected with hypocrisy can be very sneaky.

"Corporations ARE people, my friend" is al;l you have to know about the right wing. If you vote for any of them, you are now committing treason against yourself and the rest of us, period. Don't commit treason.

Let's get on with COMPARING POLICY and the candidates PLANS for growth and securing a decent economy. Stack them side by side, look at their voting records on issues and their history. I want DIRECT ANSWERS and NO BS spining in their responses, circling to the point of dizziness so they can't be held to a position. A politician HOLDING TO A POLICY POSITION IS WHAT A DEMOCRATIC ELECTION IS ABOUT, giving people a choice but then again we all know how the Right feels about us everyday citizens making our own personal decisions. Let's just see who is comfortable enough and dedicated enough to STAND BEHIND THEIR proposed policy and tell the American People THIS is what I see needs to be done and then HOW it will be implemented. NO MORE half-ass answers, inflamming attacks and rhetoric, outright lies and TOTAL DISREGARD FOR DEMOCRACY. In that scenerio, I'll put the President next to the pandering plastic puppet anytime, anywhere. He may not be perfect but the Puppet is so completely unsuitable and corrupted in all ways to lead this Country, I'll take President Obama and a Democratic majority in a heartbeat to get things rolling again. The total comparison of the two men are the bottom line and the ONLY thing that matters in making this very crucial decision. Romney doesn't have a pray mainly because he has NOTHING TO SHOW that would make resonable, common sensed, fairminded, open minded, FREE THINKING, INTELLIGENT people vote for him. There is NOT a chance in hell I would vote for a candidate that does not have the guts to state his/her policy plans or definate opinion on an issue. Even saying "I'm not sure how I feel about it" gives a confirmed answer that can be debated. WE DESERVE SOLID ANSWERS AND FOLLOW THROUGH on every issue. I'm looking for TOTAL COMMITTMENT TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE and the GREATER GOOD for this Country. Romney and the Republican Party from day one of this administration has shown the absolute opposite of almost everything the majority of the Country has called for and has totally obstructed American Democracy and majority rule with blatant lies, corrupted politics and manipulating corporate cronies lodged in their back pockets. Bring any of them on and let's debate THE ISSUES and let's just see how it ALL stacks up with the REAL FACTS AND FIGURES. As for Romney's stupidity of trying to "suggest" in his hyperbolic pandering that Obama is not one of us, it just shows how INCREDIBLY DEVOID he is as a viable, credible, qualified candidate of President of these United States.

Thanks, Cal, for posting. I have certainly enjoyed the comments. All I can add is that if Romney is elected we should just give up on our fellow citizens, they are all "compromised."

If you really wanna split hairs...only Native Americans are the true Americans. The rest of us are the result of whoever survived the boat trip over the oceans..some in chains, some in third class cargo, some in furs and pearls. And some are recent transplants for economic, political, etc reasons. I thought America was the big melting pot, a goo of colors, religions, origins. I cringe when I hear Afro-American, German-American, Irish-American...we are ALL American, live with it. How many generations does it take until someone decides that they are not part anything but ALL American? Myself, I am a mongrel mix of many nations...but I am an American.

Great point Gloria!
As for the article, thanks Cal. I too, have enjoyed the comments and several good laughs. I agree with most of the comments here. Obama is not the man we thought he could be. Romney WILL be the man we think he will be: a rich, corporate loving, 1% er who supports everything that goes against the common good of the people. He has to try to make Obama sound like the 'boogy man' because he has no talking points that support anything the majority of citizens are asking for or want from our country's elected officials. As Jason said, ""Corporations ARE people, my friend" is all you have to know about the right wing. If you vote for any of them, you are now committing treason against yourself and the rest of us, period. Don't commit treason."

I do agree with you, Jason - mostly. There are some things that Obama HAS done, however, that are unforgivable as far as I'm concerned. He signed the Homeland Battlefield and Indefinite Detention into law. He continued the Patriot Act. I can't say enough about how angry I am over even these couple things. Doesn't matter that he 'says' he would never 'use' indefinite detention - if so, why approve it?

In many cases, Obama has not even shown effort to "put up a strong fight" against the Republican/TPers... as in caving-in to Repubs over the tax cuts for the wealthy (one of the first big battles he COULD HAVE chosen to stand ground) but instead, caved-in, showing that he would be "The Compromiser" during his Presidential term.

Hey; did any of you hear as of the 23rd now; Ron Paul is now-- the winner of the IOWA primaries and is laughing all the way to the bank with more sudden acknowleged wins. Meanwhile Newt is grinning like a chessy cat, waiting in the wings. News media has to play catch -up.
What's going on the innards of this party?
Ann Romney is still talking about Ms Rosen and Ann's roll as home mom. I say people still care about Ann andher motherhood woo's..
After Ann was caught laughing and her gifts to her. Who finds Ann relevent. She is her husband "mitt" and "Mitt " is Ann.

...and Romney is a dyed-in-the-wool, traditional Mormon who doesn't believe in women's rights, immigrants' rights or rights for anyone who doesn't run in his "club". Do we really want a President who takes his orders from some false "Prophet?" I sure as shootin' don't.
