Take this a step further: Install papalotes (Iron Turbine and similar basic windmill driven water pumps) at each well. The technology can be maintained by a blacksmith and the pump can fill a head tank that is then tapped for drinking and wash water. Power for the monitor devices can be derived from the wind along with the pumping power. Overflow from the head tank can be either returned to the well shaft or spilled to an animal watering pond.
