Within the next few decades, ocean acidification - an effect of global warming - could leave sea creatures along the West Coast unable to maintain their protective shells, according to a new study.

Very dangerous situation, yet we continue forward as if all is well. Add to this that some are talking about desalination and we are done for. Maybe we all are just too stupid to live.

Add to that the deliberate attempt by major industrial powers to suppress PROOF....and I tend to agree with your last question/statement, Kit.

Widespread human dedication to the health of the planet would NOT be good for business.

Business now runs the country.

It's all for them and it's all for short-term profit.

I agree with Kit and Pam W. comments completely. Don't these business leaders who are so focused on profits and the bottom line realize that they drink the same water we do, eat the same food we do, and breathe the same air we do? They must have their own supply, that's the only logical explanation.

I can't believe people are still denying this!

Life began in the sea, and there's a good chance that it will end there as well. Due to his ignorance and greed, man has managed to reverse the course of nature. Nature provided the perfect conditions for creating and maintaining life on this planet. Man is systematically destroying the balance of nature and ignoring the warning signs of impending disaster. Unfortunately for us, the greedy are taking everyone down with them. Kit suggested that "maybe we all are just too stupid to live." Excellent observation. Either that, or we are too apathetic to live.

Great post, Cal! And great comments from Kit and Pam!

The best we can all do is to be aware that our actions matter in not only th, but other aspects as well.

It's surprising that humans are not learning from their mistakes and changing. But I guess corporations want their profits as others have stated.

I don't understand how greed and short-sightedness can kill off millions of years of evolution. Our planet is special, but most don't seem to think about it, or care.
