Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has never been much of a feminist, but women in Turkey are enraged by his latest comments on abortion. Critics say he is trying to distract attention from a scandal involving a massacre of Kurdish civilians last

The article states:

"In 2010, he invited representatives of women's organizations to the Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul and confessed: "I don't believe in equality between men and women. A year later, on International Women's Day in 2011, Erdogan talked about violence against women and statistics stating that so-called honor killings had increased 14-fold in Turkey from 2002 to 2009. But that, said the premier, was only because more murders were being reported, and that there are basically few acts of violence against women.

A member of the audience says that she was "incredulous." Erdogan's speech was "simply misogynistic" and "intolerable window dressing," she says."

What does it say about a country's leader when his public appearances are attended by audience members who are much more intelligent and informed than he is?

it seems to be the case where if you want to distract people from complaining about your actions; attack women and change the face of your crimes against humanity. Seeing much of this medieval practice, especially in the GOP.

What's his problem? I've always understood Mohammedanism doesn't forbid abortion. And c-sections're nothing objectionable. He is, but c-sections aren't.

Do not trust Turkey in anything. They are fairweather friends - and Turkey has one of the worst human rights records in History.

The man's a dyed in the wool Islamist. This attitude to women is only to be expected.

Turkey may be doing fairly well now but the increasing Islamicization will eventually plunge it into the dark ages of oppression and ignorance like the other orthodox Muslim ruled lands - Saudi Arabia, Gaza Strip, Iran, Kuwait, Somalia, Sudan, Iraq and on...

Where Islam rules, freedom and progress die.

The saddest fact is that these backward, intolerant Islamists didn't seize power by force but were voted in by a majority of Turks! Including the so-called 'liberals' who would be far better off under the rule of the secular military.

Turkey is still tearing down the few remaining churches and monasteries of the 3000 or so that existed when Ataturk ordered the genocide of all Christians last century, exterminating some 3 million Greek, Assyrian and Armenians (and Turkey still denies this Holocaust). It has never been a free place since the invading Muslim Turks conquered this once bright, shiny Christian land of Byzantium, home to Greek people for 8000 years before. There is still no freedom of religion and the few remaining non-Muslims live in fear.

And this country wants to become a member of the EU which has strict human rights laws? In your dreams (we hope).

I must say I don't understand these Muslim women who follow Mohammed's command to cover 'their jewels' and reveal them only to their husbands. Did he have a hair fetish? These women claim binding a scarf tightly around their heads, hiding all sexually stimulating hair, makes them appear more 'modest', but then they paint their faces like fashion models. How is that 'modest'?

These old tribal prejudices against women go back a long way and were codified into Islamic law and given the sanction of some deity's demanding women's inferior, servile status to Muslim men.

If you read the Qur'an, hadith and sira you can easily see why women are treated as they are in Islam when its founder had a harem of sex slaves captured in raids to rob caravans and to force conversions to his new religion of violence and banditry. He had a harem of 'wives' on top of that and taught that 'no man should be asked why he beats his wife' and at his 'farewell sermon' he said that women ' are like domestic animals' Under Islamic Sharia Law women can never be treated as equals to men because they are not. The demeaning of women is upheld and condoned by Allah himself.

The long history of women's abasement can be traced back through most cultures, but the misogyny of western societies cannot be upheld by the teachings of Jesus, whereas the old tribal bigotries toward women in Islamic ruled lands can be traced to Mohammed and Allah themselves. That makes it much harder to ever overcome women's lower status.

We can put a man on the moon, but we are still so backward and uncvilised in our treatment of others.

Turkey is in a big trouble due to its speedy switch it Islamization.

Erdogan and his Islamists are going according to their plan to turn Turkey from Western to Islamic orientation, and results can be easily seen.

"There is now one mosque for every 350 people in Turkey -- and one hospital for every 60,000.". Impressive.
