I agree: the war on drugs has failed? So what's next?

Please don’t tell me that this commission has no interest in legalizing drugs, other than helping the poor suffering addicts. Sounds strange to me, especially with the amount of corruption we have worldwide. I wonder how much profit there is to be made in the legalization of drugs. Now, let’s see, you have the drugs themselves (worldwide pharmaceutical companies and their stock holders getting richer), and then you need to have the “specialized medical and psychological clinics that will be needed and a staff to service an ever growing amount of “patients.” Then as the “patients relapse” while “new patients” are entering the system there will be a need for this specialized industry to grow quickly to accommodate “all of the new medical business.” So with this said, will the taxpayers be willing to foot the bills for people who will be “still willingly doing drugs and still having unsafe sex,” regardless after drugs are made legal? So proceed with caution, because what we don’t want is to encourage future generations of our young people to think that becoming an addict is okay, because drugs are finally legal!

A medical model addressing addiction vs. criminal justice model has been demonstrated as more cost effective for government. A medical model would also be more effective in addressing related health issues. Currently private businesses providing prisons, weapons and other law enforcement equipment have been profiting at rates rivaling all estimates of what legalization of drugs could do to the drug and tobacco industries.

Yet another facet of the immense budget black hole that is the failed (but perpetuated) War on Drugs. Good post. Take the photo yourself or is that a crime scene investigation. The victim had gone palms up.
