The sea lay a short distance beyond, its turquoise-colored waters dropping at the rate of more than one meter a year.

... due to water diversions from the Jordan River. Perhaps it is these that should be addressed, for an environmentally friendly solution.

This is just one more disaster facing the world. Soon it will be too late for us. We need to wake up and DO something to help our poor ailing world and ourselves. Instead in our greed we rush to destroy the forests that give us oxygen and pollute the very water that gives life to the planet. What is wrong with people?

""Ecology is like a chain," he says, "you don't know what will happen in the future after hurting one link in the chain today."

Would that THIS idea could somehow be worked into the consciousness of every living soul on the planet, even those some of us suspect have no soul, like the Koch brothers. Would even this make a dent in their dollars before people thinking? Because this, of all the things they profess to believe, IS gospel.

that sea's level is dropping and the ocean's is rising--more evidence of significant climate changes to address and prepare for

the question is "who is taking all of the water?"

http://thecepr.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=115%3Aillegal-israeli-settlements&catid=6%3Amemos&Itemid=34

Resources: Settlements are the cause of great inequalities in access to natural resources between Israelis and Palestinians. Many settlements are built on prime agricultural land confiscated from Palestinians, or on key water resources such as the Western Aquifer basin, springs and wells. Israeli West Bank settlers consume an amazing 280 liters of water per day per person compared to 86 liters per day available for Palestinians in the West Bank - only 60 of which are considered potable. The World Health Organization recommends a minimum of 100 liters per day – meaning that settlers use far more than double the water required, while Palestinians do not even approach the minimum. Palestine Monitor

GENEVA, Switzerland, March 21, 2012 (ENS) - Palestinians are losing access to water sources in the West Bank as Israeli settlers take over springs. The settlers use threats, intimidation and fences to ensure control of water sources near the settlements, finds a new United Nations survey released today.

Thirty of the springs were found to be under full settler control, with no Palestinian access to the area, according to the assessment carried by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs over the course of the past year.

Who of us is tired of the constant barrage of information saying this environment is dying and this animal species is nearly extinct.. The few people with the money and power are laughing at us. Instead of another tragic story.. put up the pics and names of the Ranchers, Hunters, Company Bosses, Politicians etc that are feeding this destruction.. Name and shame them.. The old way doesn't work..

Does this surprise me NOT in the least humans kill everything they get close to because all of us are so self involved that theycould care less about nature.

IF WE DON'T STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES THERE WILL BE NO ROSES TO SMELL AND NO HUMANS TO SMELL THEM AND THAT IS A FACT!!!

Here's to hoping more water can be drawn from the Mediterranean and desalinated. That, and that moisture-capture in the south can be improved with the forestation projects.

They are studying what is the proper way to resolve this "problem". By the time they have a plan that is workable, the dead sea will no longer exist! Same as the moronic global warming deniers! These will be the same people who believe in a "god" without proof and deny cold hard SCIENTIFIC FACTS! boy are they going to get a wake up call. It will NOT BE FROM GOD! it will come from the famines and weather catastrophes to come. I wish I were wrong but am afraid it is too late to put in the corrections so desperately needed!

It is up to all of us citizens of Earth to stop eating animals. We are links in the chain, and once the forests are cleared, the air and soils dry out and heat up the atmosphere, the domino effect occurs, and more and more lives are lost, more elements deadened, polluted, wasted. We are to learn respect and reverence for all life and that which sustains everything. Money does not sustain anything, it is a higher source that too many people ignore at the peril of all.

When I was there in the 1990's this was already an issue. As usual, humans take far too long to do something. They should have studied the proper way to resolve the problem back in the 90's, why wait til now?

Thanks Cal and noted. Another change in and on the planet as we humans know it presently. We've certainly caused many of the drastic & negative changes, though change is simply inevitable.

Hey everyone ... it's time to wake up. We are destroying our planet the only home we have. Where do we go after everything is destroyed? Let's think about it seriously.
