It is so sad that children and caring leaders are being so hurt by this discrimination.

I am both saddened and ashamed that they will be allowed to jeep being called the "Boy Scouts of America, for they are certainly not teaching the core values this country stands for and needs to get back to 100%.

As I understand it, a homosexual and a paedophile are two entirely separate things.

"The announcement comes amid a stepped-up campaign from activist groups urging an end to the membership standards."

What a nice coincidence. I have just concluded my own study and have decided to continue boycotting everything this organization does and stands for. I don't support bigots of any stripe, no matter what kind of silly hat they wear.

I suppose they have the right to make that decision but it is a very sickening one and definitely a missed opportuinty to teach the values of tolerance, compassion and uncondtional acceptance for their fellow human being. Shouldn't those also be tenets of the BoyScouts? Thanks Cal.

Elaine A., don't you ever get tired of being intolerant of others? I suppose not and your numerous vitriolic diatribes on all articles involving GLBT people and issues is sad proof of that.

Sexual conditioning indocrination of children is criminal. Just because your life is mess do not attack children or others. Allowing homosexuality is giving confusion a place of distinction. It is not intolerance it is normal moral reasoning. We see the result of allowing them to continue in their confusion similar to organized crime and its affects on society. Toxic demented states become toxic demented States. Good show Scouts.

Too bad boy scout leaders are not to be chosen for the content of their characters. Heterosexuality is no guarantee that a person is safe, honorable, or a good leader for children. Jerks come in all colors, religions, and sexualities, as do good people.

Kids are at no greater risk of being molested by a homosexual than a heterosexual. In fact, I am sure statistics will bear out the fact, that heterosexuals have committed more of those crimes than homosexual. Character is what counts. I think this is really scary.

I certainly understand the desire of the BSA to protect children from pedophiles, however all gays are not pedophiles. All gays are neither aggressively gay, conduct themselves in some degenerate way, nor are they all outwardly identifiable. So what are they going to do, give all the men involved with the BSA lie detector tests or something? The boys too? What about parents? Let the “witch” (read “gay”) hunt begin….

They are standing up for the might Word of God... I praise them for their courage and they will have the blessings of a loving God. The world is becoming intolerant of christians. There is a difference between being religious and being a christian.. Christians follow the teachings of Christ... Religious fanatics do evil in the name of God..

Elaine said:"Noted! And goof for them!"

It actually crossed my mind for a moment, that Elaine had "changed her stripes"!
"GOOF for them", indeed!!!
Big GOOF on the part of the Boy Scouts Council.....

Scarlett: Non-Christians not following ridiculous Christian superstitions, is NOT being "intolerant of Christians".
When Christians want all others to act according to ridiculous Christian superstition and dogma, superstition which has no value or meaning whatsoever in this world we all live in, then it is the Christians who are being INTOLERANT.....

Scarlett P (126)

The Word of God is not a superstition. Being a christian is a way of life, not a religion... Nothing ridiculous about us... We serve a very loving God... He loves the sinner, just not the sin... Those who condem us are also intolerant hiding behind what the world thinks and not everything the world thinks is correct and leads you on the right path... I follow what is in my spirit. My son was disappointed in the Boy Scout troop he was in so he quit and I started a group of his friends called the Explorers Club. We had a mission statement and meetings. We explored places, had cook outs, camping, art, etc. We took a trip to Angel Island and all the parents came and we picnicked, hiked and had a wonderful time. The Boy Scouts isn't for everyone and I think it is terrible that they exclude any boy that wants to be in it. If it were me, I'd see how many gay boys want to be in it and start my own group and do things like I did for my son! Discrimination is a terrible they won't allow people with blond hair because they might be Nazis! Shame on the Boy Scouts!!!!!!

Elaine, they "goofed" up all right!
At least we all know now what a bunch of narrow minded bigots the Boyscouts are! I don't know why she would still want her son to be part of this......

Isn't boy scouts an organization for children?Achild should not even be sexually active,so why is this even an issue? Also,a child needs to be guided. If a child is taught that immoral behaviors are normal, and that people who disagree are biggots, that is what they will think.Anyway, whatever side of the issue people are on,they have a right to their opinion, and no one on either side should call anyone else a name. There should be equal access for everyone, but a child should be a child, which means that any teachings on this subject should be done at home.period.The organization should be about camping and survival skills and having fun,not people's sexual choices-especially at this age.And again, for both sides, stop the name callling when someone doesn't agree with you.Grow the f*** up,all of you.

Then change your name from "boy" scouts to "straight" scouts. Your name appears inclusive while it is really exclusive. I am straight but it is clear to me that gays and lesbians are born with this inclination. Even little children "know" from an early age that they feel the way they do without any prompting from role models or peers. They know this before they even have the words to describe themselves. They just know they are wired in a certain way. Even transgender small children know this at a very early age. So there is obviously something built into their genes or their being that makes it so. I also see that it is not easy in this world to be gay or lesbian so why would someone choose it if they weren't structured that way? They can no more be straight than I can be gay. Hey, straight people, would you want to have someone reject, scorn, mock and harm you for being straight? What happened to do unto others? So what's the big deal?

What more can you ask for from a Christian based organization?

Christopher M. (4)
Saturday November 17, 2012, 5:13 pm
The Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts is rooted in either Judaism or some plane of Christianity. Any way you slice it, homosexuality violates their religion, and as a religious-based organization you can expect nothing less than enforcing the standards of the Bible as written. My advice, start your own Scouts organization....

The Rainbow Scouts??? There that is a good name. Just don't identify with Christianity. Christians would not want to be associated with homosexuality. I hope they would also not want to be associated with haters of any kind, which is equally condemned by the religion. I John 3:15....

I think in this case the Scouts use "gay" to mean sexually active. And no, that does not fly in Christianity or Judaism, or Islam, one bit.

Christopher M. (4)
Sunday November 18, 2012, 6:55 pm
I'd consider making the Rainbow Scouts co-ed.

When Christians want all others to act according to ridiculous Christian superstition and dogma, superstition which has no value or meaning whatsoever in this world we all live in, then it is the Christians who are being INTOLERANT.....
At minimum, the Christians themselves get to run their own affairs, and have jurisdiction over people who claim they are Christians too. Either walk the walk or split, nobody likes a hypocrite.

Personally, I oppose the new proposal that the Boy Scouts of America should revoke the longstanding policy on homosexuality. An organization that teaches character, courage, and conviction shouldn't be exploited as a laboratory for sexualized political correctness. For decades, the BSA has kept the interest of the boys it serves as the focus of all its actions. No matter what, the Boy Scouts of America could be counted upon to do the right thing and not yield to any social or corporate pressure, and has thus far stood strong.

Parents should be able to entrust their sons to the organization with the confidence that they will not be exposed to inappropriate sexual topics such as homosexuality. The BSA should retain the current long-held and time-tested policy regarding homosexual leadership and membership.

Jesus does not want this to happen to our nation! Why do you call this "hatred" and "homophobia" and "intolerance" and "hypocrisy" when it is really standing strong in faith? It's like kids at school. If you don't do wrong stuff at all the time they call you a "teacher's pet" or a "goody two-shoes". It's the same principle, except on a larger scale. I am glad that gay boys and men aren't allowed. When I was a boy scout in summer camp, I know I wouldn't want to have gay boys in summer camp because I would feel more uncomfortable then I already was!
