The fact that Chick-fil-A is a company that espouses Christian values is no secret--But the comments of company President Dan Cathy about gay marriage to Baptist Press on Monday have ignited a social media wildfire.

Thanks Cal for posting the CNN report. I haven't bought anything from Chick-Fil-A for several years because of their stance on LBGTQ issues. To Kit, the carrot salad sounds great but as far as I'm concerned Mr.Cathy can put it where the sun doesn't shine. The question at the end of the article "Does religion influence what you buy?" gets this answer "Religion doesn't but bigotry does". Read and noted.

I agree that he has a right to operate his business as he sees fit and hold the opinions he does, but we also have the right to boycott his and all other businesses that condone (and in some cases encourage) intolerance and bigotry.

you can tell a lot about a person or society by the way it treats the beings it doesnt think it has to treat well.
why be surprised by a company that profits from suffering and death, the pebble seems so small but its effects are far reaching. withdraw your consent, for as long as you consent to the little things you have consented to the big ones.. silence is acceptance
life has value beyond measure

When I recently moved down to NC I was told by someone that once I tried this place I'd become instantly addicted. At that time I was pretty confident that I would never be going in as I don't eat fast food, especially deep fried dead poorly treated chickens.

Then I discovered this G-d fearing bigot owned the place ..now it's a no brainer.
I've added Chick-Fil-Cluck to the Loews & Wal Mart list of places i will NEVER financially support.

I haven't eaten here much (maybe once in ten years and only because it was being bought by someone else) but this gives me more reason not to.

If you go to change.org, there are OVER 50 PETITIONS! asking various venues to REMOVE CHICK-FIL-A or to not let them in! MOST of these are various College Campuses and Student Unions. Good for the students!
You can sign as many of them as you want, and I think I have signed them all -- and I check change.org every day, because every day there are new ones.
Go to change.org, then to Gay Rights, then to Recent. Then there are several pages of Petitions, starting with the most recent. {Some of the Chick-fil-A Petitions are also under Popular Petitions.}
Some of the Petitions are to not have Chick-fil-A in shopping malls, or to refuse to have them as sponsors. You can sign those also!

Check out the Petition that asks Chick-fil-A to stop serving possibly-gay Chickens!!! "Roosters have been seen mounting each other at least since 1774.....", a reference of course to the apparently quite "natural" homosexuality seen in diverse species of animals. The comments on that Petition are hilarious.
This Petition is also a Care2 News Item {I put it there!}.

Then, on Youtube there is a video featuring 3 outrageous Drag Queens who URGE you to go eat at Chick-fil-A "even if you're Gay". Believe me, this is NOT the sort of "endorsement" Dan Cathy wants! This video has gone Viral; it is quite raunchy.

Itís interesting to hear the angry anti Chick-fil-a folks. They seem to be very pro-gay rights. Canít fault that. I am too.

What I do fault and question is: Are they now researching each and every company they do business with to make sure their CEOs and their Board of Directors are not anti-gay marriage? That would include not buying any food at the grocery store, any new clothing, any electronics, etc. etc. until they are sure these businesses agree with them politically. If they have landlords they need to check them out too and give notice if the landlordís politics donít match theirís. Better check on the banking institutions that they work with too.
If they are not doing that they are hypocrites and their opinions are of no value. If they are doing that they may end up with very bare cupboards, worn out clothing, and no place to live but Iíd respect their beliefs and their moral courage.

Brie: Actually, enough MAJOR companies have come out definitely in support of Gay Rights, as well as many smaller ones, that it WOULD be entirely possible I believe, to live one's ENTIRE LIFE consuming ONLY those products from companies THAT HAVE COME OUT DEFINITELY PRO-GAY-RIGHTS, such as, oh, Kraft, Google, department stores, too many really to mention..... it would be entirely possible to go to ONLY those businesses that have ALREADY PUBLICLY COME OUT IN FAVOR OF LGBT RIGHTS, and ignore the rest! Your cupboards would be quite full of both major, and lesser-known brands..... and, there are more companies coming out publicly in favor of LGBT rights all the time. {They know where the money is!}

CREDO among other organizations, and several others, publish LISTS OF MAJOR COMPANIES WHO ARE DONORS TO THE REPUBLICANS, AND TO THE DEMOCRATS. These have been going for SEVERAL YEARS. Therefore, anyone can, and LOTS of people DO, decide which companies to support, based on Political donations. This information is Public Property that can be EASILY accessed. It would be quite possible, for example, to support ONLY companies that have contributed to Dems; and boycott those who contributed to Rethugs. This is done all the time.

There are many, many other sources, that list companies that SUPPORT THE ENVIRONMENT; and those that don't! Again, this has been going on for YEARS; and people make purchases accordingly! I bet lots of people on Care2 know about this!
And, finally, interestingly, there seems to be some OVERLAP, between companies that support Dems, support Gay Rights, and Women's Rights {another listing you can access easily!}, and those that support the Environment. So, that gives a great deal of leeway and choices for socially-conscious Consumers....

As far as local businesses go, it should not be hard to find out who supports what.... so many "local" businesses are just Franchises of National ones..... and I guess if your local Mom & Pop grocer or Hardware store owner turns out to be a bigot, there are always alternatives, ordering on-line being just one.......

Mr. Cathy has the exact same Free Speech that I do, that everyone does; he also has a "right" to support Nazis, the KKK, Communists, or anyone else with his money.
I also have the right to denounce him and expose him. I have the right to spend my money elsewhere, where it won't be given to causes and groups that I not only disapprove of, but that are out to INJURE me. The Chick-fil-A Corporation has given huge amounts of money to organizations listed as HATE GROUPS. Hate Groups aren't just "debating societies" -- they exist IN ORDER TO DO HARM TO TARGETED GROUPS. Such as, let's say, Jews or Blacks or Non-Christians or whoever. Or Gays. It's not just Mr. Cathy's anti-Gay-Marriage remarks; but, that these remarks have DRAWN ATTENTION TO HIS SUPPORT OF ANTI-GAY HATE GROUPS.

Hate Groups are not listed as "Hate Groups" just because they "differ a little in opinion from the mainstream". Hate Groups EXIST TO PROMOTE HATE. It is like "shouting fire in a crowded theater, when there is no fire". They exist TO PROMOTE MISCHIEF. Otherwise, they would not be listed as Hate Groups just for their "opinions"!!! Those who investigate and make these charges, such as the SPLC, the Southern Poverty Law Center, are responsible individuals who take their work extremely seriously; they are not arbitrary or capricious in their judgements!!!
The South, the former Confederacy, unfortunately seems in many respects to lag behind the rest of the country; Chick-fil-A has taken advantage of backwards social attitudes. I do believe, however, that when they try as they are doing now, to expand into the rest of the country, they will not find the welcome they were hoping for.
Please sign the Petitions on change.org Gay Rights; and do keep alert and pressure officials to KEEP CHICK-FIL-A FRANCHISES OUT OF YOUR CITY OR NEIGHBORHOOD.

mr cathy voiced his opinion, not a corporate opinion. he has a right to do that just as people have the right to have their opinions. if you don't like his opinion don't eat there. as soon as you stop one group from voicing their opinion then everybody loses their rights.
i don't happen to agree with him but i will still eat at chick-fil-a because i like the food. my opinion my choice.

Just as same sex couples are entitled to their freedom of choice, the owner of Chick-Fil-A is also entitled to his freedom of speech and freedom to express. We all have the right to openly express our thoughts, as well as our beliefs, regardless to public opinion. That's all Mr. Dan Cathy did.

He strongly believes in traditional marriages between one man and one woman just as millions of other people do. That doesn't mean that he hates all gays. It just means that he doesn't agree with non-traditional marriages, that's all. Why is everyone britches in a bunch over this? People are too damn sensitive these days.

It is not hate when a person has an opinion that is not the same as yours.I say this in cathay's defense,and I would say it in defense of someone who was getting grief for saying that their stance was for the homosexual agenda.People should have a right to their opinion without backlash from people who do not agree.Stop screaming "tolerance",and then trying to turn it into a hate crime when someone does not agree with you.

I don't think everyone should have to be "pro-gay" i just hope for "pro-equality".
