Once those big trees are gone....wildlife MUST move on. It takes too many years to re-grow a forest. Besides...when the loggers come in, so do hunters, armed with automatic weapons. Wildlife doesn't have a chance.

Soils are too fragile. Though subsistence extraction (very low impact) by the locals has worked fine for decades.
