Citing "unsanitary and unsecure living conditions," French Interior Minister Manuel Valls ordered police early Monday to dismantle a Roma camp set up along suburban railway tracks in Evry, south of Paris, and expel 72 inhabitants, including 19 children.

This is a TOUGH issue!

Have you seen Gypsy camps in Europe or India? They're always associated with an increase in crime and other social problems. If you don't plan on remaining in an're not NEARLY as likely to become a "good citizen."

Unless you've been there/lived're NOT going to see all sides of the issue.

If you ever had neighbors like this you might understand. They were forced out of our neighborhood years ago.

Tough and difficlut issus... but evicting them wouldn't solve the problem..takes time, but efforts to make/let them change and adapt into the society shouldn't be dropped. I've been visited many slums in Delhi, India and there were Roma people in some areas. Children were bundle of energy and curiosity. I hope in Europe, too, they can be a "change".

I think that the French President should sack whoever writes his speeches, where is the humanatarium side of this, Yes I can understand some people's comments about not wanting them as their neighbours, reducing the value of thelir property, but unless they are granted rights to certain areas of land, then the whole country is going back in years instead of progress, look at all the problems originally when ethnic minorities came to Europe, I remember the calls and sign posted such as "no blacks (or Chinese, Polish etc etc) but look now at these people, many of whom hold down important jobs. The Romanys orr Gypsies did get a bad name for themselves years ago in regards to stealing etc,, but you cannot judge a book by its cover.

Cristina Calloni: do not confound Rroma with Romanians. Rroma are from India, Rajasthan and had spread throught Europe and in Egypt during the Middle Ages and later. In Romania (whose name comes from Rome or Romagnia - the Roman province) they settled because they were given work. But in time they showed their true face: they steal, they are naturally inclined to scandals, etc. The UE adopted the name "Rroma" (which I don't deny might have real historical sources from India) because of its non-discrimination policy (not to offend them by calling them gypsies). But in reality it's only a policy to discredit Romania.
It is very interesting that French, European and US people love Indians so much however they don't want gypsies on their territories.
I'm very glad France took action, which I don't believe will prevent gypsies from returning to France (there was a similar action before Christmas and in the TV interviews the gypsies were declaring they will return to France), however I don't see why they send it back to Romania were they do not belong. The communist regime tried in vain to integrate them in society with no results. In conclusion they should send them back to India.
