The president spoke little about himself or his accomplishments--or Romney. Instead, he described the election as a choice of very different paths.

And it was beautifully delivered!

Which nation do we want to be?

One where 1% of the people have 90% of the money and the rest of the nation is a "lower class?"

Or...one with a thriving middle-class, which realizes that education, equality for everyone and a thriving economy built by that middle class ensure a viable future?

Do we want THE UNITED CORPORATIONS OF AMERICA?

The answer is clear, isn't it?

I understood his message, I just hope enough "undecideds" watching did and will decide to vote for him.

Obama is a man of peace - this does not mean he is not strong as real strength comes from backbone, not muscle. One of the speakers at the convention used JFK's, "we are not here to curse the darkness, we are here to light a candle" and that seems quite how it was. I'm fired up and ready to go.

That's the best way to hide lack of accomplishment during his term.

Well my idea of values doesn't include furthering the agenda of indefinite agenda, warrantless wiretapping, GITMA, flip flopping on final status items, etc. When we continually live in darkness, we will never see the light.

Inclusivity vs exclusivity.....
Future vs Past....
Peace and Hope vs Fear and More War....
at least admits to global warming (although not doing enough) rather than joking about global warming.....
hope vs anger......
compassion and caring vs greed....

while I think Green is best, Mr. Obama is better than Mr. McCain would have been or Mr. Robmey would be.....

Absolutely....notice that those who want to denigrate him can't answer my question...

Mr. Gregoire and Mr. NONAME....

Which nation do YOU want us to be? "UNITED CORPORATIONS OF AMERICA?"

Or a land which actually lives up to the principles expressed in our Constitution?

I doubt I'll hear back from you but I'd like you to DIRECTLY answer me.

Florence stated above that Obama's speech gave her "chills." The republicans felt the same way. I get "chills" looking at him because he believes in spreading the wealth in a free market country.

What other president has spent over $4 million sealing their personal records? Why did Obama feel the need to do that? Have any of you asked yourselves that question? He scrubbed the internet and sealed his personal records because he had something to hide.

Linda, the debates will tell the story. As Americans, we need to watch and listen as our country is now vulnerable with so much debt. We need to do our due diligence before we vote in November. It's the soaring debt and it's high unemployment. Also on the table is our healthcare situation. All of these issues can be fixed if we have the right leadership in Washington DC.

Romney Charged A Fee For Being Blind. “It now costs to be blind in Massachusetts.
Romney Also Proposed Imposing A Fee On The Mentally Retarded. (He dislikes using the word "tax" )
Romney's MA ranked around 30th in unemployment.
Romney directed Damon Clinical Laboratories during the time when it racked up $35,000,000 in CRIMINAL FINES for MEDICARE FRAUD,
Romney, who made a fortune through investments that often ruined the lives of workers and their families , was good and sending jobs overseas. He pays about 15% of his income in taxes – that's right, a lower rate than most of us who work for a living and now we suspect he paid NO FED TAXES for 10 years because he hides them. Hides money offshore---is that patriotic so other countries benefit by it....we don't even KNOW how much money has left this country by corporations and rich people like him.
NO-heart Romney put his dog (who got sick) on top of his car for a long trip. (how about that animal lovers?)
While a moromon Bishop he RUSHED to a Boston Hospital to convince a woman who was due for a medical abortion to change her mind.....imagine that....she chose to live instead of die and said later that he didn't treat her like she mattered.

A disappointing often disgusting resume for the US presidency and representing we the people. . .

Diane First, of course, we're not "broke." Big corporations and the wealthiest Americans are making more money - and a higher percentage of America's total income - than ever. The fact is that if millionaires and billionaires paid taxes at the same rate they did during the Reagan Administration - and the income they earn clipping coupons on investments were taxed at the same rates as people who work for a living - that would go a long way to eliminating the deficit.
The federal government is in debt to itself. Compare this to debt in the private sector. No business declares that it's deep in debt because it loaned itself money. It's the same with families. Parents don't lay awake at night trying to figure out how to repay the money they loaned themselves. The government, however, thinks that it makes perfect sense to collect $100 of tax revenue, spend the $100, and then declare that it now owes itself $100. This scheme is not limited to Social Security

Janice, what do you think printing money means? Do you think printing money means it's free? God help us. There's absolutely nothing wrong with corporations and businesses making as much money as they can earn. They built their own companies. Obama didn't build that and neither did George Bush or Bill Clinton. Our corporations are among the top three highest taxed in the world. That's no way for a government to encourage growth, innovation and more jobs for the people. It has been proven that when large companies are given tax breaks they give it back in expanding their businesses and that means "new" jobs. I'm constantly amazed at how little the liberals understand about business. No wonder many of our companies have outsourced their work. If I had a large company and my government was blocking me from the profits I needed to stay in business I'd take my manufacturing jobs overseas. Plain and simple. We can blame union wages for companies outsourcing. Unions are no longer needed in America.

We don't live in a socialist country. Citizens in our country can chart their own course and make as much money/profit as they are wiling to work for. They, in no way, should have to be taxed or "penalized" for providing the majority of jobs for our citizens.

The truth is that the majority of Americans have excellent credit, good jobs, money in the bank and retirement investments. Many could've purchased the upside mortgages two years ago if the government had not intervened. Because when they did they tied up these homes in red tape meanwhile the values kept plummeting. Who in their right mind would buy one of those homes knowing it would be a better buy if they just waited 6 months to a year? Obama tampered with the natural recovery of this recession and he came back to bite him in the butt. He was too inexperienced to know what to do.

I believe in free markets. I believe in personal responsibility Americans, the very Americans who built our country when they came through New York and other ports as immigrants. These people, through their own hard work built their own lives. Now we are morphing into a nanny state country where more and more Americans have their hands out. We have three and four generations of Americans on welfare. It wasn't suppose to work like that. Bill Clinton is directly responsible for subprime mortgages. Jimmy Carter leaned on the banks first during his presidency to change their lending practices for minorities. Once elected, Bill Clinton enhanced this affirmative action and once again leaned on the banks. The result of this landed on George W. Bush's watch. Late in 2005, John McCain put up the GSH Reform bill to immediately regulate Fannie & Freddie. Your own "intelligent" democrats, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, told Congress...now hold on to your seats..."the economy is fine. We don't need to regulate Fannie and Freddie." So, you see, it helps to know the truth.

Our country will be in deeper financial trouble if Obama is re-elected. However, if he is re-elected, he is certain to have to deal with more republicans in congress. We already know that Obama's own democrats wouldn't pass his budget. If he wins, the congress will shut him down again for more years. Is that the type of progress you envision for your country for the next four years? Obama has proven that he doesn't want to reach across the aisle. Want four more years of that? Obama will go down in history known as the great divider. He will also go down in history as being the worst president this country has elected thus far. Many Americans like Barack Obama but they also know he is in over his head as a president. I believe that will be the determining factor for electing Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. And when they are elected, Americans will begin spending their money again. Trickle down. For four years, Americans and large corporations have been stockpiling money. Nothing is going into the economy and that is at Obama's feet.

Diane-President Obama did NOT seal his records...that is a LIE which you repeat often. Try looking up Executive Order 13489...and also (Bush) 13233.

The " he sealed his records", "birth certificate", "he's a Muslim" crap was PLANNED. It was designed to make The President seem like he "isn't one of US", "he is the OTHER", "he hates this country" etc. etc. ETC.
You can thank Rove, the Koch brothers, the teabaggers, and the radical extreme right for the division that is in this country!!! THEY are the ones spewing the lies, hate, fear, and propaganda.

As for your last comment-it is as usual-filled with code and red meat..."nanny state" , "great divider"..."personal responsibility Americans", "socialist country", "blame union wages"...keep repeating lines and they become facts-right?!
I guess it's now okay to outsource because that's how Mittens made his money...never mind that American's lost their jobs, their houses, their health care, their life savings...
As long as Mittens made millions.

Obama didn't reach across the aisle? You have GOT to be KIDDING! He tried so many times but the G reedy O ne P ercent took a pledge to make sure that he was a one term President-the country be damned! The GOP said "NO!" even on the issues they introduced first.
What about the jobs bill The President introduced over a year ago? Leading economists have said it would create around 2 million jobs but the GOP said "NO!' Why? Because the unemployment number would go down, the economy would get rolling even faster and the GOP wouldn't have a chance to win this November.
The GOP is un-American.

"TRICKLE DOWN" ?!?!?! LOL! That is how we got in this mess to begin with! TRICKLE DOWN DOES NOT WORK!

Diane's post gives me the chills. Where do you think these people you claim have money in the bank, good credit, etc. It came from them living the American Dream, the middle class existence which doesn't even exist anymore due to corporations and their greed. Corporations certainly are to make money, but they also have a responsibility. They have no business shaping policy, de-unionizing the workforce and ruining the environment. Who do you think makes the products and provides the services which makes these corporations rich? It is made on the backs of their employees.

Do you think the heads of these corporations should be giving themselves obscene bonuses regardless of their performance? Since when is it wrong for people who work hard (which is often back breaking labour - this includes working for the automotive industry, not a great place to work) and attempt to aspire to a middle class existence? Since when Diane, is a corporation more important than human beings. In addition, if you want to quote about tax breaks to corporations and how it creates jobs, why not some stats to back this up since they have been enjoying these tax breaks for quite some time.

Also Diane, if you are going to prattle off statements like "What other president has spent over $4 million sealing their personal records? ", please provide a credible source, with citation to back it up. If not, it is just ranks right up there with the "Obama was born in Kenya" claim, just more bagger nonsense.

From factcheck.org

Might as well get rid of all of the nonsense.

Nothing ‘Sealed’

The idea that any Obama record is “sealed” is a falsehood, to start. The word “sealed” when applied to documents ordinarily refers to records that would normally be public, but that a judge has ruled cannot be released without the court’s permission. Common examples of truly “sealed” documents include records of crimes committed as a juvenile or records of adoptions. None of the claims in this message refers to records actually “sealed” in that usual sense.

In some cases, the records this screed claims are “sealed” are actually public, and open for anyone to see. Other supposedly “sealed” records are normally private documents that Obama hasn’t released — and that other presidential candidates haven’t released either.

So as with earlier versions, this is little more than an attempt to raise suspicions by asking for records that aren’t ordinarily made public, without any evidence that those records contain anything derogatory. We’ll take the claims and questions in the order they appear.

Claims #1, 2 and 4, college records. Obama’s college records are not “sealed” by a court order, as this graphic would have you believe. It would be illegal under federal law (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974) for Occidental, Columbia or Harvard Law School to give any former student’s records to reporters or members of the public without that person’s specific, written permission. Obama hasn’t released them, but neither have other presidential candidates released their college records. George W. Bush’s grades at Yale eventually became public, but only because somebody leaked them to the New Yorker magazine. Bush himself refused to release them, according to a 1999 profile in the Washington Post.

Claim #3, thesis paper. Obama did write a paper on nuclear disarmament for an honors course in American foreign policy during his senior year, but it wasn’t the sort of “thesis” that some colleges require for graduation and keep on file in their libraries, like those that Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama released. During the 2008 campaign, reporters were told that Columbia had not retained a copy of Obama’s 1983 paper, and that Obama didn’t have a copy, either. NBC News contacted his former professor, Michael Baron, who said he looked for his copy but couldn’t find it, and thought he probably tossed it out eight years earlier in a move.

NBC quoted Baron as saying the paper likely would have disappointed Obama’s critics. “The course was not a polemical course, it was a course in decision making and how decisions got made,” Baron told NBC. “None of the papers in the class were controversial.”

Claim #5, Selective Service registration. Obama’s Selective Service registration is public. A copy has been posted publicly, and the Selective Service confirmed that Obama registered for the draft on Sept. 4, 1980, and was given registration number 61-1125539-1.

Worth noting is that nobody in the U.S. has been drafted for military service since 1972, the year Obama turned 11. Obama, like other young men turning age 18 since then, was required to register on a standby basis, in case Congress ever resumes an active military draft. Failure to register is technically a crime, and disqualifies a man for federal student aid or from holding certain federal jobs.

Claim #6, medical records. During the 2008 campaign, Obama released summary medical information from his personal physician, who pronounced him to be in “excellent health” with routine test results for such things as cholesterol all within normal levels. (McCain, who is a cancer survivor and was 71 at the time, let reporters see his records for three hours to show he was cancer-free.)

Since taking office, Obama has followed the practice of earlier presidents. He released results of his first “periodic” physical exam on Feb. 28, 2010. Results of his second “periodic” exam were released Oct. 31, 2011. His physician described him as being “in excellent health and ‘fit for duty.’”

Claims #7 and 8, Illinois state Senate records. Obama’s voting record in the Illinois state Senate is a matter of public record, and about as far from being “sealed” as one can imagine. Reporters extensively went over his votes in 2008. Transcripts of Senate debates in which Obama took part while in office (1997 – 2004) can even be found online, at the website of the Illinois General Assembly.

Obama’s personal appointment calendar as a state senator may still be private — if it still exists — but we’ve seen nothing to suggest that would add much to what is already public. As president, Obama has released records of visitors to the White House (2.4 million so far). There are some exceptions. Personal information about visitors, such as Social Security numbers are not released. And there’s an exemption for “particularly sensitive” information, which might include a visit by a potential Supreme Court nominee, for example. But that’s still more disclosure than any previous president has made, by far.

Claim #9, law firm clients. It’s true that Obama has not released a list of the 30 or so clients for whom he worked personally while he was a lawyer with the firm of Davis, Miner, Barnhill and Gallard in Illinois. He did routinely disclose the law firm’s entire client list while he was in the state Senate, however. And his campaign confirmed in 2008 several specific clients that Obama represented personally, when reporters asked about them. For example, he once represented the liberal group ACORN in a 1995 lawsuit against the state of Illinois, to make voter registration easier.

Claims #10 and 11, birth certificates. The claim that Obama’s birth certificate is “sealed” is pure nonsense. Copies of both the so-called “short” and “long” certificates have been released, and state officials in Hawaii have said repeatedly that Obama was born there in 1961 and is a “natural born American citizen.”

Claim #12, baptism record. If a paper record exists (and we’ve seen no evidence that it does), it would most likely show only what numerous, undisputed news accounts have stated: Obama was baptized in 1988 in Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. Obama was often seen in attendance at Wright’s church in the 20 years that followed. He was married there, and his two daughters were baptized there.
He remained a member even after some of Wright’s controversial sermons were given national attention in early 2008. When Obama reluctantly severed ties with Wright after weeks of controversy, it was a major news event. Obama and his family now attend St. John’s Episcopal Church, near the White House, though not on a regular basis.

Claim #13: Michelle Obama’s law license. It’s simply not true that the first lady “can no longer practice law as an attorney.” She could resume the practice of law any time she chooses. Both the president and his wife have voluntarily inactivated their Illinois law licenses, thereby avoiding a requirement to take continuing education classes and pay hundreds of dollars in annual fees, which is common for lawyers no longer actively practicing.

Claim #14, first ladies’ assistants. It’s true that the first lady has more than 20 on her staff, but that’s roughly the same as other recent first ladies. The claim that “other first ladies had only one” might conceivably be true of Martha Washington or Dolley Madison, but it’s certainly not true of Laura Bush or Hillary Clinton. Bush had at least 18 that we could count, and probably more with job titles that didn’t make the link clear. The White House has said Michelle Obama’s staff is the same size as Laura Bush’s was.

Claim #15, foreign student aid. The claim that Obama got “foreign student aid” is untrue. That wild falsehood began as an absurd April Fools’ Day hoax in 2009, which we quickly exposed.
Claim #16, Obama’s passport. There’s no reason to think Obama used anything but the then-current version of his U.S. passport when he traveled to Pakistan as a student in 1981. Some who questioned Obama’s birthplace made baseless claims that Pakistan had banned U.S. citizens from visiting in 1981, and speculated that he must have used an Indonesian passport. But they were quite wrong. There was no such travel ban. In fact, the New York Times published a travel piece that year describing the author’s own visit to Lahore, and the U.S. consul later wrote a letter to the Times saying he would “welcome an influx of Americans” and giving advice on how to make the journey.

It would be nice for a change for those who have a problem with Obama would argue something that is actually important and relevant rather than make these really inane claims that have no basis in fact. There is plenty to criticize, but nonsense of him spending $4 million to seal his records or the country of his birth really have no bearing on anything, except to demonstrate how so many Tea-Parties find it impossible to actually check fact before posting.
