The oil giant has long said it has no responsibility for atrocities committed by the government soldiers it hired to protect its plant in Indonesia. Now the issue could be headed to the Supreme Court.

I am convinced that they did, but expect the fascist five to side with Exxon.

Thanks cal for the link to the article by Ian T. Shearn and Laird Townsend. There is no doubt in my mind Exxon knew about this and as the employer is ultimately responsible. Kudos to Federal District Court Judge Louis Oberdorfer for ordering Exxon to stand trail for these atrocities. I, like TomCat think the the "Unholy Five w"ill side with Exxon. Read and noted.

Seems like EXXON Mobile wants it both ways. They're an individual for Citizens United, but a corporation for Alien Torts!
Human beings would be endlessly amusing if all this did not cause so much suffering.

What a travesty, how long must the world be exploited by these bleeping Plutocrats! There seems to be no end to the bodies left in their wake!

Noted. Yes, Tom, SCOTUS will probably rule for the corporations, as usual. Alexandra has it right. It's all coming down to who will provide justice for the people when these TransNational corps. do harm? As they gain more and more power over every spot of land on Earth, we the people will have to respond.

I'm sure they did, just as i'm sure Chevron has also done in South America.
Their sense of entitlement and enormous legal budget have continuously bought them all the protection from the atrocities they unleash on both the peoples and the environments of the regions they choose to control.

And now POTUS gets their shot at them....and i to believe they will be shooting blanks.
Another thing to think about when you go to the polls - there may well be judges retiring in the next 4 years.
I think this is one of the most important, under discussed reasons for voting democrat!

I'm sure if the criminals Cheney/Rummy instructed them to do so.

I have no doubt in my mind that Exxon did indeed pay those torturers. They need to pay for what they did.

I would not be surprised at all if Exxon/Mobil were involved, oil companies are always involved, always have been and always will be to maintain their huge profit margins. They never think of the human factor only their huge hip pockets. But it will end for them eventually, people are waking up to these criminals.
