Pressure from the Catholic Church, social stigma, a lack of information about sexuality and reproductive health and limited access to reproductive healthcare services are putting the lives of hundreds of thousands of women across Eastern Europe at risk.

So sad. Reminds me of when the USA didn't let women have the freedom of choice. It is my belief that way to many Abortions take place and what should be made available is more information and protection. It is so sad that people take the beginning of life so carelessly. Then there are also those people that have the children and that child would be better off raised by a pack of wolves.

Thank you Cal for this article

this the "information-age" and a lack of information ...
this the "21st century" and humankind hasn't left the dark Ages yet.

When will religious leaders and powerful men stop controlling women's rights? Some compassion , education , and assistance would really be appreciated. If this can't be given, at least leave them alone to choose for themselves!

Thanks for posting, Cal. As stated in the article, this is an issue of health and safety. Period. One very disgusting aspect of this is that the wealthier women can afford to find an accredited doctor and pay for a safe abortion in sterile, comfortable surroundings. Others are left to fend for themselves, and often end up sick, injured or dead.

It's not right to condemn women this way.

First , where are all the Romney-thumpers gone to.....hibernation I guess. Birth control and abortion has been around since humans have walked this earth and acquired enough knowledge to engage in both. 15-20 percent of all pregnancies end in spontaneous abortion or what some call miscarriage of fetus' what's the difference here when nature allows it.

I feel so badly for these women, by virture of the fact they are female they must suffer in such ways. If American women, and the men who love them, are not careful, this is how the extremist on the right would like to have things be here in the USA. Don't go backwards!

What these women need is education and birth control, not the ability to freely kill other people. Time for these women to take responsibility instead of making others pay for their mistakes.

Jo, not only is your comment entirely lacking in compassion and sensitivity, you also make it without even having taken the time to read the article. If you are going to throw out such harshness from your heartless comment at the very least read the article, that said they don't get what you say they need. I think you need to get the frog avatar off and change it to a toad. I apologize to the toad.

Are you actually suggesting that education and birth control will not help these women, Dandelion? Abortion is not the answer to unwanted pregnancy, whether safe or not.
