> Should this be a warning against eating fish?

Eating MEAT is not really good, for several reasons,
- ecologic
- ethic/moral AND
- chemical(radiological): not only (most or all?) heavy metals, but also many of other human-produced pollutants (e.g. dioxin, PCB, ... other POPs) tend to accumulate in the food chain

so, Yes, there ought to be a warning against it -- for (all the manymany) people who also need a warning label not to put digs into the microwave

"The authors of the new report insist they are not seeking to persuade people to stop eating fish. They agree fish is essential for healthy brain development in young children and the unborn. However they caution consumers to be more picky about which species they put on their plates."

++++++++++++++++++ Believe me...eating fish is NOT "essential" for healthy brain development..... There have been billions of people with great brains who never ate fish.

Secondly, warnings like this will only help decimate populations of "safe" fish!

I hate sushi! There are so many sushi restaurants in my neighborhood if the stuff messes up the brain I will be the neighborhood genius soon.

I have always been concerned about food poisoning with any uncooked protein so I've never liked the idea of sushi.

Our oceans are not safe from the poisons that we humans have polluted the earth with. We can expect, that our fish supply is just as dangerous as our other food supplies.

Thanks for posting, Cal. *I'm sorry I'm unable to send Cal a star since I sent one in the past week.
Never liked sushi and won't eat it. I knew Fukushima was going to poison the ocean, so I just stopped eating fish altogether. Very sad.

I am not a sushi eater, but I can tell you, a friend of mine is, and spent 2 days in the hospital due to mercury contamination.

Sushi (or to be more precise sashimi - when I was in Japan in the 70's raw fish was sashimi, and sushi was what we here call California roll) isn't that awful, except for breakfast. I thought maguro tuna was the tastiest available then, but since I returned to the states in the 1970's I have seen no reason to consume any. But does cooking do anything about the mercury? I wouldn't have thought so.

It's not good to eat tuna -- some species are endangered.

We all know to avoid large fish as much as possible.
Sushi does not have to contain these fish.
I have made vegetable sushi (and eaten it in restaurants)

There's one other fish on the list that shouldn't be eaten and that is cod. The depletion of the cod is well known in New England. There needs to be a complete moratorium on them and that might not even be good enough to bring them back from the brink.

When I was a kid, I read that it was bad to feed cats tuna for this reason. It stuck with me all these years and my kitties have been tuna free

Tuna and shark are apex predators and therefore have the highest content of mercury and other heavy industrial chemicals.

'Should this be a warning against eating fish?

It is a warning about eating LARGE fish. Small fish, lower down the food chain, are OK.

Michela M. with respect, I find it difficult to comprehend that you use the same Orang Utan template every where. Sorry, this one was about Tuna. Spend a little more time to make a constructive comment that will benefit our course.
