Signed without ANY expectation that it'll succeed. The NRA exists to serve itself...not American citizens. That's obvious.

P.S.: If any of you are from Rep. Mike Rogers' 8th district, in Michigan, please e-mail him to tell him he's a fool for focusing on the mental health issues; either that or he's kissing up to the NRA and its corporate supporters!

There is no need for assault rifles.

Reagan started this when he shut down mental institutions to give tax breaks to the rich. Poverty and economic inequality destroyed this country.

Thanks so much, everyone, for signing this Important petition.

As far as I am concerned, thisis the ultimate right To Life issue.

What I mean by this is that most folks who are members of or are sympathetic to the NRA feel their rights to bear arms supercede the rights of all of us to our lives in cases where other citizens, even deranged ones, are enjoying their right to bear arms. No matter that they are killing innocents with automatic and semi-automatic weapons that have no place in hunting or self-defense. It is revolting in the extreme that these selfish folks, in seeking their own personal protection, would expose the rest of us to potential hazards to our lives and livelihoods from anyone, even those in need of professional help, who also want to bear arms for their own purposes.

The Senate is taking votes from the public. However, to serve a handful of stingy. Then arming the people. The innocent are dying. Feed crow, get out your eyes.

S&N, Thanks Cal. Hoping that the NRA will respect the purpose of the petition is a nice thought, and it's a gesture that needs to be made, we should give them a chance to voluntarily change their wicked ways. However, I don't think they will, there's too much power and control, as well as money, at stake for the leadership.Though I do believe there are sane, intelligent gun owners and members of the NRA who are receiving a wake-up call now along with the rest of us. I'd like to see those people split from the NRA and form their own group, leaving the stalwart supporters of the extreme NRA positions exposed for who they are-a faction of greedy, selfish zealots who deserve to be stripped of their power-much like the Tea Party.

Signed!!! Guns owned by "resposible gun owners" are more likely to be stolen and used against innocent victims or stolen by a child who takes it to school or used by the owner to kill an innocent when there is a "supposed threat" than protect anyone.

Signed! Here are some more from the White House Petition web site:

This one has 194,731 signatures and I believe was the petition cited in the NY Times yesterday as having received 130,000 signatures up to last Tuesday!! Keep them coming:

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/immediately-address-issue-gun-control-through-introduction-legislation-congress/2tgcXzQC

A more recent one for an immediate ban by Presidential order on military type assault weapons and ammunition until Congress makes them illegal:
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/immediately-sign-executive-order-banning-sale-assault-weapons-and-high-capacity-magazines-until/jSYMYh8g

Westboro as a hate group (225,470 signatures):
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/legally-recognize-westboro-baptist-church-hate-group/DYf3pH2d

It is really important to keep the momentum going. The NRA is biding its time until passions subside and the slaughter of these children and their teachers is but a sad memory. Then they will push back and punish those lawmakers who stood up against them as they always do after these tragedies, and will then continue to spew their hateful culture and politics.

Please please spread the petitions via whatever means.

Thank you.
