Snort! Why acknowledge it? Isn't it like people who buy stars and name it after themselves? Or buying the Brooklyn Bridge?

I bet they still want the Falkland Island back.

I will be watching this with interest to see what the Brits next move is. If the land has already been claimed by Argentina, then it is a real slap in the face to the Argentinian people for the Brits to do this, isn't it?

i saw this on the news this morning. it seems trivial compared to other events going on at the moment.

Why not?

What a pair of five year olds in a sand lot pissing contest. ROFLMAO. Argentina has been pilfering its national bank for personal gain for so long I guess they need something to take the public's scrutiny away from its economic problems. Then again there's Britain who still thinks it's a colonial power. The apex of Britain passed after 1847 and not 1947. Now if anyone needs to take the public pressure off government; it's England. I'm surprised someone hasn't flushed yet. How sad. When they get bored they'll have a world war; happy but poor and it's the little guy who always gets fleeced in the end.

Oh, and then they can wave the flag and drink a lot of beer and sing Rule Brittania - great song by the way.

I'm British and I don't blame them for protesting.

Pretty much every inch of Antarctica is disputed. What gives us the right to name and claim any of it?

Won't anyone support us Penguins? We are the rightful land owners.

I would like to know which one of those countries want to conserve that pristine environment (and repel whalers). That one should have it.

I think the whole continent should be renamed "PenguinLand"

Does she not have more than everyone else already? The arrogance and audacity. What an ego! When I think of Antarctica the last thing I want to be reminded of is the "Royals" and all that such a concept stands for.

Yvette - no-one knows what the Queen thinks of such a thing - she rarely comments on anything political - and it was a 'done deal' as we understand it when she was told. As a UK citizen, when I heard of this, I thought it was rather unwise and would probably stir up trouble - and gosh, it has too! The Conservatives toadying rebounds on us all - again!

Argentina is always angry over something as long as it is not corruption in their own government, hammering of the few indigenous folk left or looking after the poorest members of their population.

So what are the Argies going to do about it. Will they start another war and get their arses kicked AGAIN like they did in the Falklands.

Queen Elizabeth land is a terrible name for anything even a theme park, as for the Argentinians they always get into a hissy fit just because it is very good at hiding the fact that the government is corrupt and incompetent.

Not surprised about Britain, they still think they won WW2 and still think they are a superpower and want to name everything after themselves. Times have changed, the only reason why they still have the Falklands is because the USA helped them believing there may be oil there.

So agree with Hector R. I don´t care who the hell is named after for, what matters is that they protect this place!!!
